B4 it was Marvels Amusement Park, it was Marineland and Zoo, best childhood memories from the 1970's.
I can remember riding that Cable Car with my Grandparents when I was a Child. I also loved watching the Boat Battles at Peasholm Park. Those where the days.

Passed Peasholm Park today, the naval battle re-enactments are still running.
It's so sad seeing what's left - or what isn't left - of this lovely town. I came here for 15 years of summer holidays growing up and loved every one. I was devastated when Kinderland closed, and now I have my own wee boy I'm even more gutted that he won't ever experience it. Great video, very nostalgic and sad but also very invocative of happy memories. Would've liked it even more if you could've gone round what used to be Kinderland in the video, like you did with Mr Marvel's, but looking at those gates I guess you couldn't gain access. Thanks for this trip down memory lane.

Yeah Kinderland was fenced off unlike the other. As I saw on the drone, nothing left at all in there anyway.
I lived in Scarborough from 82 to 86 and loved it. Marvels was fabulous and I had many a happy ride on the cable car from the park down to Scalby Mills. I remember when Marvels was the Zoo and Marineland in the 70's, fabulous memories. Scarborough has lost so much of what made it a great place thanks to systematic destruction by their awful local council who really need stringing up. I also loved Atlantis which was originaly called the Water Scene. This was a fabulous nostalgia trip for me so thanks very much for sharing. Great job as usual.
Scarborough is an amazing place. I've lived here all My life. Im afraid Scarborough Borough Council aren't so amazing. They have had a lot to do with its demise.

Scarborough Council who also own Whitby close certain places quite early at night and close the best attractions in the area. 😒
I used to holiday with family in Scarborough every year when I was child in the 70s. I loved PeasHolm Park especially the Tree Walk which was magical and we would always go there on the last night of our holiday. It's a shame there is nothing like it for children now

Seeing the remains of Kinderland was the nostalgic journey I didn’t know I needed today! I used to go there a lot as a kid - it’s wild seeing what little there is now 😭

It sure is, very sad.
Oh this is sad. My parents took me to Scarborough in 1981 and I remember Northstead Manor Gardens, marine land, the water chute, tree walk, boat battles and the outdoor swimming pool which looks like it’s long gone too. What a shame! It was a lovely resort.
A once lovely town slowly destroyed by successive councils !!

I agree . The North & South Bay pools ,Futurist theatre ,parts of Peasholm park going to rack & ruin . The authorities are a joke, is this the way forward to attract visitors ? Me thinks not.
I knew I had a childhood memory from Scarborough but could not put a finger on it. The photo of the waterpark at the end made the penny drop. Thanks for unearthing some nice memories and great video.

I remember kinderland and, Marvels and water park. It is so sad that it's all gone, I had childhood holidays in Scarborough with lots of memories.
I never realised how much Scarborough had to offer,as kids in the 70's 80's we went to Blackpool.
The council have failed the town massively. One of the highest suicide rates in the country, some of the poorest families in the country. All we had going for us is tourism and the council seem happy to let that fall apart too 😢

The council are your servants, they do as you tell them. You could always get a better job and use Your own money to make the changes you want to see, or you could just sit there doing nothing except waiting for someone else to fix your problems. Lazy and feckless.
Forgetting the past makes the future irrelevant. Your work in these videos is amazing .. thank you, very enjoyable.

Another great video Darren, this one touched with nostalgic sadness and memories similar to the Filey Butlins story, maybe rose coloured glasses ? but certainly less simpler and less technological times. I particularly love your fade in and out , then and now comparison shots, you obviously put a lot of time in matching them up so perfectly. Wonderful little films, I look forward to the next. Kind regards.
Still go to Scarborough for a run out on the odd weekend. Remember going on the chair lifts many times as a kid in the 70's with family that aren't around anymore. Happy times. Trying to show the traditional seaside and steam train to the new younger family members, hope they will appreciate it and carry on making the memories.

Hope so. Yes.
Very interesting, I used to go on holiday in Scarborough in the 80s & 90s and remember it fondly, except the time we got thrown out of Atlantis for causing a traffic jam on one of the slides as kids do ;) It is a shame that the Marvel's and Kinderland have closed, the North Bay has always struggled compared to the South Bay. The last time I visited was on a day trip and Atlantis had been closed for a while with some of it knocked down and the rest being used as a paintball type place, I'm glad that they at least built another waterpark and that it's indoors, it used to be freezing standing on the staircase in the wooden shack waiting to get on the slides ;) I'm glad that the miniature railway lives on and of course the battleships in Peasholm Park :)
We had many happy times at Scarborough when my Kids were little. Atlantis, Kinderland, the cable car and the fair. We all remember them, and it's very sad now they have all gone. The British seaside resorts have been in decline for many years now, except maybe Blackpool and Brighton. Hopefully things will change for the better now, as more folk will holiday more in this country due to the ever changing restrictions for holidays abroad.
Had happiest days of my life at Scarborough when a nipper with me grandparents mam dad .
I'm from Scarborough and during lockdown we built a little diy skatepark at the Marvels site. A lot of it got destroyed by drunken youts. You can see a couple of remains in this video! It's great seeing an outsiders perspective of the town too :)
I'm from Scotland and with the Army cadets spent two 2 week holidays in North bay in the summer of 1986 and 87. I know things move on but life others say its so sad to see places not there anymore. Especially The Water scene as it was formally called. Such fun times, loved that place 😢. Never seen slides like that before.. Great fun.
I have brilliant memories of my Nanna and Grandad taking me to Scarborough every year in the summer holidays in the 80's the battle ships in peasholm park and remember the island being all lit up on a evening also before it was marvels amusement park it was some kind of marine place watching the dolphins and birds also went to the outdoor water park a couple of times the slides were amazing i havn't been to Scarborough for about 20 years but have such great memories good times 😀
Loved seeing the area before and after. I have a memory of going to see dolphins perform up that hill in one of the pools. There was also a small theatre building near the entrance that housed a fake Gorilla (or something similar) in a cage, at the front. The prank was that the cage would open, and it would escape. I and everyone else started running out of the building. I remember getting trampled on by everyone running out. I don't think the dolphins were looked after very well, so I'm glad that they had to close that part of it down.

Yes! I can put some flesh on the bones of that reminiscence. Obviously a man in a gorilla suit would prowl back and forth behind the bars, growling ominously, while some bloke whose second job was probably a bingo caller would give a running commentary, ‘The Missing Link from Borneo, ladies and gentlemen. Don’t poke him through the bars, he doesn’t like that. An animal when he’s roused, etc. etc. …’ Meanwhile the ‘gorilla’ was becoming increasingly enraged, shaking the bars and roaring, until finally he threw open the door … I’m surprised the whole show hasn’t made it into the psychological textbooks. I mean, everybody knew that he was just a man in a gorilla suit. Didn’t they … ? c.1984
As Scarborians ourselves and living 5 minutes away from where you were, absolutely loved this, my mum used to work in the cafe at Mr Marvels 😁
I used to ride on this as often as I was allowed as a kid. It offered a fab view of the North bay over to Scalby mills, the Astrolglide at Scalby MIlls was awesome too. Zoo and Marineland was a fantastical place to go as a kid

It's such a shame that places like these small attractions like these a slowly disappearing. Love Scarborough but I didn't know there was that abandoned site behind Peasholm park. The council should really inject some money to see if they could bring it back. Great video.
In my 60s now!?! Had great times here! Out door pool, water park, marine centre, place full of motorbikes,!!that was the 70/80s, brilliant place, loved Scarborough then,!!!! Pale imitation now! How sad!!!!

One of my favourite rides out on the motorbike is to Scarborough (Via Sledmere and Brid). You still get a load of bikes parked up along Marine Dive on a nice day.
So many memories Darren. So many memories. I remember all these places. You have taken me back in time. Times with my parents long ago. Thank you so much.
Used to love going to Scarborough all the time as a kid, don't live far away. Carried on going with my own children, lots of great memories. It's absolutely criminal what they've done the place the last decade or so, North bay's wrecked, Futurist gone, the largest theatre outside London, to be replaced by a tinpot wheel. Scandalous. Don't bother going anymore.

North Bay wrecked?!! Err no, Scarborough North Bay is beautiful! As it should be, natural rock pools and not spoiled with loads of amusement arcades! You go to South Bay side for those. North Bay is idyllic for children with the rock pools. Peasholm Park and the lovely Peasholme Glen walk 👌
Love Scarborough - went every year as a kid and again this year for the first time in 7 years! Remember exploring Kinderland as a kid, and I thought it was alright. And OMG the outdoor water park!! 🤩🤩

I worked a summer as a lifeguard at Atlantis when we lived on Peasholm Drive 30 years ago. The best spot was at the bottom of the slides as you could stand in the water to cool off a bit. One of the first jobs of the day was to walk up the slides to check for damage and twigs/leaves. The tiles around the edge of the pool were always slippery compared to the surrounding tarmac/concrete so quite a few banged heads and backs when people weren't careful when running and jumping in. Sad to see it as it is now.

Yes it is. I remember it fondly.
Me & my step sister never went to the first one you showed we only went to kinderland & Atlantis water park. It was in the 90s when my dad lived in Scarborough when he & his wife owned & ran a guest house just up the road from Peashome Park. It was called The Pondarosa on Columbus ravine. Also on the seafront was a building (name escapes me) and we saw the chuckle brothers live there one Saturday. I haven’t been since about 1999 as my dad moved back here to South Yorkshire when he got divorced. He passed away in 2017 & I always wanted to go back but was scared it would bring back to many memories & emotions for me. Thank you for this - it allowed me to see it all over again 💜
Great video 👍
Wow,brilliant stuff mate. Love Scarborough, been going there for years and have learnt a lot about it over in that time but your knowledge is off the scale. Keep it up,brilliantly presented and informative 👌 Regards. Andy.
I remember the atlantis water park when I was very little I pleased for my mum that I could go in the pool best time and I remember the cable cars and the parks it's a shame that it not there any more great childhood memories
Thank you Darren for another walk back into the past. Nice job!. Cheer mate.🏴😊👍🇺🇸
I lived in Scarborough from 1990-1992. Such a shame these places aren't there any more.
I'm from Whitby, growing up in the 70's and 80's and we'd usually go to one of the North Bay attractions once a month during summer. Marvels was a bit low budget and ramshackle but fun, Kinderland was amazing to us but we also nicknamed it Injuryland as we'd always come away with some large bruises, splinters, friction burns or big gouges (as you could easily have your foot go into the springs of the trampolines) but best of all was Waterscene (as it was known when it opened). In my teen years we'd sneak in at night when it was shut and drunkenly mess around in the pools as the security was very lax. Thanks for the great video and memories that flooded back.

Thanks for watching, more to come.
Went to Scarborough on holiday as a kid back in the early 90s, have fond memories of all three of those parks, a real shame that they all closed. Great video, thanks for making this.
Whilst Kinderland was a bit after my time, I do remember the rides on the train as well as the occasional treat on the watersplash. I did, as a child, get to ride the cable car but recall little of the amusements at the top of the hill. The water park was always busy, not to mention the vivid blue slides really stood out, and the pavilion where those flats now stand. How times have changed, and I guess it's not much of a surprise as to its demise as it was so far away from the harbour and other sea-front attractions.
I loved Scarborough as a kid, coming from Redcar in the summer months. Atlantis was class, albeit proper freezing! It's a shame all that's gone. It was well nostalgic watching this. Great video.
Loving your videos! Thank you and keep them up 😊
Atlantis and kinderland were my childhood. My mum used to give me money throughout the summer holidays and I used to go with my best friend. Shame they demolished them! I would of loved my children to experience such an amazing place like them. We don’t have much to do here anymore. 😩
Used to love Kinderland!! Lots of happy childhood memories in this video x
I thoroughly enjoyed this video. loved the transition from the water park to what it is now, one of my favorite features of your films. Nice camera work and drone footage. Always know I'm going to enjoy your latest, thanks for taking the time to visit these places and then share with us. Sad to see some of these places fade away into the landscape.

Many happy memories of Scarborough from family holidays in the 60s. Last time we visited was about fifteen years ago when we took mother for what turned out to be her last visit. We parked on the south cliff and walked the full length of the promenade from the Spa to what was Corner Cafe on the north bay, calling in for fish and chips at Bamfords and then a strawberry waffle at the north bay shop.
