In today’s episode of Figuring Out, we have Arunkumar Pillai in conversation with Raj Shamani. He is the Director General at Namtech, he is an Ex-CSO at NSDC, and Partner at EY.
When it comes to knowledge of engineering colleges, career development, and similar topics, he has some great insights to share.
In this episode, we talked about why the Indian education system is always questioned, why our GDP is increasing but our average individual net worth is not increasing, and why 40% of engineers remain jobless every year. We also discussed how Singapore grew its economy, why many engineers regret after doing engineering and what is the major difference between top engineering colleges and average engineering colleges. We then talked about why 2500+ colleges have shut down in India and why many technical engineering students go for non-technical jobs.
Towards the end, we talked about why many engineers don’t even get a basic standard salary, how Namtech's 12-month program is different, and how it will help engineers build better careers as engineers. We then talked about the top 5 skills people should learn to get high-paying jobs in the future and how candidates can negotiate their salaries better. For such insightful conversations, don’t forget to subscribe to our channel.

My son has a 95% in 10th ,rather then doing 11th & 12th( we presume it is a waste of time) we decided to go IGTR for doing 4 year diploma where students are getting industry ready by handing latest machines with advance technology , later on for doing graduate program we have decided go to Taiwan or Germany for further study to be the domain expert ( doing 11th , 12th + 4 year of engineering is really waste of time , money & energy ) manufacturing sector is changing very fast in india and all multinational are setting up there manufacturing facility in india , trust me guys we need good engineers and technocrats too.

I am electrical and electronics engineering student I have done my diploma also in same branch. I struggled lot to make my Career progress and today I am energy analyst. The thing I told you this because I am diploma guy with engg and very good at lab but only thing maths was not my cup of tea and 11 and 12 students also used to study with us and don't know to do labs practicalynand they were good at maths. I used to this how these people get job but when placements started these people used get the job easier even they they don't know anything in practice but me not used get it the irony was due to maths . So want to tell you that not our education system even our hiring system is not correct. Today I am energy analyst and solving problems that good in maths people can't solve and maths is not everything that companies need to understand. Some good at maths but not at work no one checks on this part.

The problem with core engineering in our country is that no comparable opportunity is available here & so engineers begin to think that when my peers from CS or IT back ground are earning handsomely and living good life then why should I not. So they shift to other domains b cos of lack of comparable opportunities.

Unemployement is the major outcome of overpopulation . I still remember those ads in early 90s on DD channel where they used to say hum do humar do but we still didnt follow that.Citizens are equally responsible for this mess.At the end of the day government didnt ask our forfathers to have so many kids .

Unemployment is the major outcome of lack of job creation due to lack of development of labor-intensive industries due to lack of reforms in labour, land, education laws due to lack of will/ability of the government to reform these laws

@@maxmin1234 There are certain regions on earth which are only deserts with no water nothing and there are giant cities there with millions of people living and progressing because their governments have a will and capable people in charge. They lack food and water in a desert to support huge population so what their governments do they bring scientific innovative technologies to solve their issues and move forward. Our people are the best in the world at finding reasons to justify our current terrible condition. If you have a huge population, us this as a advantage by giving them basic manufacturing skills, bring in large scale labor intensive manufacturing industries to generate huge employment but all we want to do is just blame our people and not incompetence of government.

You are telling me our giant country which is basically a continent doesn't have one city, not even one city which is in the top 10 in the world in terms of quality of life, ease of business, corruption index performance etc. I am not asking you to show me 10 Indian cities I am asking just 1 city. For example take Varanasi with population around 3 million, which is around rank 30 in India in population and is not even in top 80 populated cities in Earth, has our full government support, financial backing due to being a sacred city, still one of the worst cities in terms of pollution terrible civic sense poor waste management noise pollution etc. If that is how badly we treat our sacred city then I can only say it is incompetence because surely our government and people have intention to make the sacred city the best in India.
Raj shamani sir please invite communication leader, CEO of global career hub delhi Yogesh Chaudhary sir , education counselor, it's beneficial for students, students don't have guidance to do study overseas, just a suggestion
People in other countries majority of people do engineering by choice due to their interest and passion in the field. Here in India we do engineering just to get a bachelor's degree with no interest in the field and samajik pressure.
I wanted 15 skilled graduates and was not able to shortlist even 5 for UK based company in Punjab. I interviewed so many graduates in their respective fields , but was not able to offer job. As most of the students said , we don't have any skills other than this degree. Degree I just consider as piece of paper in India from most of the colleges. Our students need to trained or at least educate in such a way in India that they think different or you can say critical thinking and analytic thinking. I can go to china and get skilled work force in 2 days and same time if I come to India , it will take 6 months to find someone and start production. Even Vietnam is able to provide the skilled labor now. If industry is moving out of China, it is opting other countries like Vietnam or south Korea. India have a opportunity right now but it's loosing on that. Why would industry come to India ?
I love that this podcast focuses on skills for the future. As someone without an engineering background, I'd appreciate episodes tailored for people like me who have a general education but are eager to develop technical skills. Thank you!
Amazing Podcast . I want you to make more podcasts on the skills that students need to learn side by side their college course which are very important if they have to stand on their own in the market for a better Tomorrow . That the reason i don't like to go engineering colleges for degree....... i actually like to observe thing, and how the machine or technology work, but our teacher are themselves only doing teaching rather than intense research and teach student how should we do research..........Most of time between 9 and 12, i had asked my teacher out of box they just reply it's not in our syllabus.....so we don't need to study those things.......do what i told😢😢

A second perspective is what my teachers told me about. Indian engineering is better in a way to make your future outside the country. Why ? Because in the first year we are taught the basics of all the branches. So we know something about the branch. Whereas this is not the same thing for other countries. They study respectively about the branch they selected. So I like this about the Indian engineering system.

its not education system, reality is no supply and demand is balanced by initiating and increasing manufacturing and development sectors, then training is must, for required skill development. lack of developments infra related to core branches is the main problem.
