Technically edgedancer, lightweaver and truthwatcher all edge out willshaper for me ( plus windrunner is a tie), but the more I understand Willshapers, the more I know that I would be one.

The Quiz told me i am a Willshaper... And this video just gave me reassurance. Can't wait to see more of the Order in the following books and more Knights from it

As a college counselor, I also feel a strong connection to Willshaper

I've been a Willshaper for years but haven't truly understood what that means in today's world. I don't often have the opportunity to break people out of cages... But this helps me understand! It's about every person being able to make whatever choices they want for their own life! And in that, I believe wholeheartedly! I'm very queer and I believe that every human being should be able to decide for themselves who they are, what they want to be, and how they want to live. I agree with the oaths for any other orders and could certainly learn a lot through them, but this belief is central to who I am in a way that the others cannot be. I am, have always been, and will always be: a Willshaper

I think the coolest part about Willshapers, is the Spren they bond.. I'd so love to be a a trader sailing in Shadesmar alongside my Spren.

I love this one. We need to see more Willshapers up close and personal.

So glad we finally are getting the Willshaper video! No other order resonates with me on such a fundamental level.

Finally, now I know what Radiant Order Ron Swanson would belong to. Godspeed Sanderson.

@@MrGrizzly7392arguably, there are 3 focus characters: Venli/Eshonai, Kaladin, and Navani. However, the "focus" characters are the ones who get dedicated flashbacks; RoW was Venli. We'll almost certainly see more of her and more Willshapers in the future, though. After all, we're not even 1/2 way through the series

I joined the Willshapers before Rythem of War came out, even got a tattoo before the book. But ive never regretted it. In fact thinking of my oaths has helped me to be more self assured as i help my friends escape state's that opress them. I am still not as confident as i want to be, but thats what the journey is about.

I came up as a Willshaper pretty strongly on the test, and I agree; I believe in seeking freedom, and I agree with how our order is described in this video for the most part. I will say though, I can see why out of all the orders willshapers are the most varied in terms of belief. You can have everyone from the most conservative person to the most liberal individual within this order working towards freedom, but I wonder; how many willshapers believe in exercising your freedom to restrict somebody else's freedom? No willshaper believe in restricting freedom! But wait, perception is a powerful thing. An individual might feel held back by somebody else, and theg might be justified to feel that way, but an individual can just as easily hold themselves back and blame somebody else. Willshapers don't just help people do whatever they think they want to do in my opinion; as a willshaper I think that it should be the individuals choice to chase after addictive substances, however, even if they say that is what they want, I think it is the willshaper's job to free them from that bondage. What we say we want isn't always what we actually want, so my goal as a willshaper is to free people from the chains of slavery that they choose to wear. I don't do this by force, it remains the individual's choice, but if I can help someone to recognize that what they think they want is self destructive and unhelpful and isn't actually what they want, then I can actively help them to achieve freedom.

You have to (or should) have some level of Selflessness to serve in a Radiant Order. The paradox of tolerance applies. Killing a King who wishes to oppress is fully in line with the ideals as his individual freedom in no way trumps others.

I disagree with the notion that this order would attract many conservative people. Hell, I don't even think it would attract a ton of liberals (though it would attract some). This order is the most fundamentally socialist of any of the orders - tearing down unjust hierarchies is literally the basis of what socialism is about, whereas conservatism is fundamentally about upholding hierarchies that conservatives see as necessary. The statement that "Willshapers are quite different from each other" seems to me to be more a statement of their personality and convictions than a statement of their political beliefs and morals. To put it another way: their shared political beliefs are what LEAD to their varied personalities.

I am a Lightweaver according to the quiz, and I strongly identify with that, but this is the first video that makes me feel like I want to be of another order!

YES! I always loved the implications of the Willshapers and this absolutely confirms they're the order for me.

What happens when your truest wants or desires clash with other people's truest wants and desires? If building a dam will free you up from subsistence farming to become an artist, which your really want. But it'll force someone living on the land where the dam is being built to leave their home, which they really love. That's the reason most of us can't live exactly the way we really want, because other people really want other things.

According to the quiz, this is my order. While I don't agree 100% with example given in the video, freedom to choose is absolutely one of my core values. So given that and the fact that each Willshaper can be completely unique from each other, I think I would fit well enough.

The first video (Windrunners) establishes that she's from the Sixth Epoch; that's one of the Heraldic Epochs, when the Heralds and the Knights together fought in the Desolations. There were at least eight epochs that we've heard of.

I love all of these.

Taken the quiz many times over many years always expecting a different answer but every time it is just a higher percentage of Willshaper. I was kind of hoping for elsecaller, but it is what it is 😅

I'd suggest reordering this playlist to play them in release order, or at least move this before lightweaver. Also add stoneward and bondsmith to this playlist.

I identify with this order. I see it more as enablers and anti-oppressors. If someone cannot do something they want to because of a physical or social limitation, a Willshaper will help them with that obstacle.

I'm very strongly a Willshaper, but I am quite conservative. I believe that laws are restrictive; to the law abiding. That's the distinction for me; if everyone were perfect and didn't have contradictory beliefs or seek to control others and actually sought what they want and not what they think they want (self destructive tendencies are something people "want", but in reality, addiction is just something that someone should be convinced to desire freedom from), then laws would be only restrictive.

If you're using "libertarian" (with a lowercase 'L') in its original use - where it refers to a specific type of socialism - then yes. If you're referring to "Libertarian" (with an uppercase 'L') as in the American political party - then no.

Willshapers have the most varied and contradictory beliefs out of all of the orders of knights, which is probably why I so strongly came up as a willshaper, because I always find something to disagree with my peers on.

That's what the ideals are for. Take the windrunners: even though their main thing is protecting people, there's an ideal about how "there are those you can't protect". I think the ideals would build upon each other so a Willshaper won't back a tyrant

Everyone should be free to work out the contradictions that arise from opposing dreams. There will always be give and take in the interaction of free entities. If the entity's dream is to take everyone else's freedom (the tyrant example above), there is no give and take, so the entity is working against what the Willshapers seek to achieve. Seems fairly clear cut to me.

I think the idea is everything is on a case by case basis. What is it that you both want? A job? Specific resources? A lover? And it would be up to the Willshaper’s personal philosophies. Did the job choose the other person because they’re more qualified or because you were discriminated against? Should the resource be owned by any one group or person or should it belong to the people, in which case neither of you get it? If it’s a lover, well, unless the other person is being forced by parents or the other suitor, you’re out of luck, friend. It isn’t the most efficient or consistent order, so asking two different willshapers might get you two different answers.

I’ve watched both videos and taken the test, but I can’t tell whether I’m a Lightweaver or a Willshaper, they both fit my personality:/

Just like in any group of people, there's going to be variation within the orders. You aren't defined by one quality or characteristic and neither is anyone else. Being a lightweaver doesn't mean that you couldn't possibly be a willshaper and vice versa. Just like being a doctor doesn't mean you couldn't possibly have been a teacher or an electrician or anything else you wanted to be.

I knew i liked willshapers for a reason. We're still waiting on stonewards, right?

skybreakers follow some law or someone, because they think their own judgement to be insufficient. willshapers want everyone to live out their personal freedom, as long as it doesn't impact other people's freedom if the willshapers create laws that align with their orders beliefs, the skybreakers could follow the willshapers' sense of justice and the two would be perfectly aligned

Oddly, I think they would be fine compliments for one another, which really surprised me. I definitely align more with the Skybreaker worldview, but that's because I believe people are naturally evil. I truly believe in John Madison's claim that, "If men were angels, no government would be necessary." If Willshapers help to make people a little closer to angels, then Skybreakers become less necessary. But so long as people aren't angels, Skybreakers will stand against those who would use their freedom to harm others. I'm actually really starting to like the pairing of the orders the more I think about it.

I wonder if Adolin will be a willshapper. I think he will reforge a bond with his dead blade and become a knight radiant.

​@davidgillis950 I think he is more of a skybreaker than a willshaper (I see them as opposite ends of a continuum and he is somewhere in the middle) the actual traits that he upholds are most in line with edgedancers, with a helping of windrunner and elsecaller.

@@davidgillis950 1) maya is for sure a deadeye cultivationspren, and 2) people are more than their single order (as evidenced by so many of us qualifying for multiple orders). It’s a combination of luck and predisposition. My favorite example of this is Lopen’s cousin, Huio, who is fascinated by the broke clock fabrial in Dawnshard. That has Dustbringer written all over it, yet he’s still a Windrunner because of his environment.

There has been Shallan art in ALL of the radiant order videos because this whole series is promotional material for the Words of Radiance leatherbound campaign which launches in a few weeks.

I have said before that I used to consider myself libertarian until I interacted with other libertarians. I empathize with and relate to the overall philosophy of allowing people to given themselves as much as possible, but most libertarians I have interacted with take it to an extreme that ignores the realities of living in a society where we all in some way rely on others and others rely on us. This video makes me think the Willshapers will mostly fall in that same bucket.

Not to get too much into irl politics but there is a pretty important distinction between right-wing libertarians (in the US sense) and the traditional (leftist) line of anarchists, the latter being much more keen on how people are only free in a society where other people recognize them as free (most clearly stated by bakunin and malatesta), given that willshapers will build systems and infrastructure for the sake of others, they seem to fall much more into the traditional anarchist category, then again this is a fantasy setting so its probs for the best not to try to force everything into our irl molds

Since I'm moderately confident there's a chance Adam will read this - do you think that foot fetishes have a higher rate of incidence in Roshar because of the hyper sexualization of safehands?

Wow, it feels like members of this order could manifest in a lot of different ways. At first, I thought "activist", but technically all the Radiant orders are activists after some fashion. Then, I starting thinking about specific jobs or roles. I was hearing "psychiatrist, civil engineer, sociologist, scientist." These guys seem like they could be just about anything, a "kitchen sink" order focused around "giving people more options."

I said this in another comment but it's worth repeating because people are bringing up the term "Libertarian" a lot. "Libertarian" was originally a term that applied to some socialists and was basically a synonym with "anarchist", but later that word was appropriated by capitalists who wanted capitalism with no restrictions. But capitalism is by its very definition and function a hierarchical system, which is the exact opposite of what anarchism is. So basically modern libertarianism (libertarian capitalism) is a lie and a contradiction The Willshapers appear to be more in line with libertarian socialism or anarchism.

You see, there are ten orders of Knights Radiant and all of those orders believe in Journey before Destination. So stop trying to get to the Destination and go enjoy the Journey of reading the books. Who cares if they're big books. That just makes the Journey bigger and richer.

Very few willshapers would be famous imo. Alexander the Great was a literal conqueror and Musk is far from the proponent of freedom he claims to be. I imagine willshapers would most be the teacher who taught you how to read. The volunteer at the park showing kids how to use power tools. A grandparent showing their grandkids how to fish. The union leader ensuring management doesn’t squeeze blood from a stone. If you need a big names, check out Shawn Fain and Norm Finkelstein.

Laws are systems which can (and should) be made to maximize Liberty while enabling a Just, Equal, & Equitable Society. Libertarians are far more Anarchistic. Which doesn't mean a Willshaper isn't a Libertarian, but it is far from a requirement.

This makes Willshapers arguably one of the most dangerous orders. No where is it mentioned whether or not this "personal freedom of choice at all costs" mentality protects the rights of others in any way. What if your goal is, "I want to be the most successful mass-murderer ever"? Is there a Willshaper out there who would help this person fulfill their goals in minute detail?

Sanderson did say that the Willshapers probably wouldn't have any problem with Adolin killing Sadeas.

@@rainman6090 Honestly? I don't either. I consider it self-defense, not murder. But just like the Skybreakers can tread into Lawful Stupid terrain, I worry that the Willshapers might dip into the "only your goals matter and everyone else be damned" pool.

@@Darkkfated Probably depends on the Willshaper. They seem to be a pretty varied order in terms of beliefs, but I think most Willshapers would view mass murder as a violation of others personal freedom. While something like Adolin killing Sadeas might fall into the self defense bucket. Also Sadeas was a sadistic Tyrant to his bridge crews which would probably put him at odds with Willshapers.

Honestly, I wouldn’t put it past one crazy willshaper to find a loophole. “You desire death? let’s find you people wanting to die” and boom you have a semi-questionable death with dignity policy. Jokes aside, Willshapers would constantly be considering *everyone’s* freedom as illustrated with the above example. If it’s a one-sides freedom, then that’s just oppression.

So they are libertarians with magical powers, gotcha. I know who I’m not joining.
