Condolences to the whole FMG family. 2 tough losses in 2 weeks. Both fantastic writers and they always sounded like amazing men. Both got me interested in different aspects of hunting and shooting. You are correct, we need to celebrate the great writers we still have with us! Let's hear and see more of them "off the pages" if possible. Keep up the good work, we'll be here watching and reading and praying for those we've lost.

Two of my favorite gun writers gone in less than a month. Duke Venturino was not a surprise, but Mark looked to be in really solid physical shape. My doctor commented at my age 66 annual physical that I was going to live forever because my blood pressure was 116/ 62. The next month found me in the ER with chest pain. Then a trip to the cath lab to have 3 stents installed. Saw my doc a couple months later. He said that once we reach 65, the health indicator statistics didn’t mean squat - surprise stuff begins to happen. I guess Mark Hampton is additional proof of my doctor’s statement.

Dang, two of my heroes have passed on to their reward. I thoroughly enjoyed Mark's Handgun Hunting Adventures, he influenced my approach to handguns and I find myself seeking Contender barrels in a variety of calibers. I also fabricated a multiple barrel Savage Stryker, currently it's a 6.8 SPC, with 22-250, 243, 308 and 223 barrels available. The nuances about switching barrels sometimes requires switching bolt heads/bodies and the assorted tasks that accompany the change. But Mark is the guy who heavily influenced the desire. I'm so very sorry for Your Profound Loss, like a brother, you miss them every day. Chet

My job took me to many remote places on south Missouri. While going through Raymondville Mo one day I stopped at a gun club shooting range to look it over. There was only one man there and we spoke and soon were in a conversation about an article I had read somewhere that he took a deep interest in. About then he mentioned he wrote for AH and I said Really! What is your name? Mark Hampton! I said I have been reading your stuff for years. I saw him there on another occasion and we talked again. I'm in nowhere USA and run across one of the nicest guys I've ever met who is a famous writer and hunter. Who'd a thunk it. 2 very large holes to fill at FMG

My condolences to Karen, and also to you both Brent and Roy. I know how tough it is to lose a good friend. A special thank you for both this and the podcast last week on Mike Venturino. Their memories will last long for so very many. The worst part of getting older ( I turned 64 on Wednesday) is losing friends, both known and just admired from afar. I wish you all have the time to grieve the loss, while you have to remain moving forward.

I'm so sorry for this loss too. Feeling very mortal right now. Prayers for his wife and family. I agree and would love for y'all to spotlight your remaining writers. I love John Taffin. The only gun magazines I've read in a long time are the FMG group. However Roy, don't forget your part of the gun writers that we love. I don't know if you'll remember this because it never came to fruition. I sent you pictures of a custom holster maker that I know. His work made my El Paso rigs look plain. Anyway, you offered to take a holster for the upcoming give away you had coming up. I don't remember which gun it was but it was a regular type and nothing exotic that he couldn't make. All he had to do was send you a holster. He messed around and missed out on national exposure. He's out of business now. That was such a wonderful gesture from you. I'll always remember that. So please when you do these videos, please include the glue that molded it all together for so long. Btw, that's you Roy. Mr. Brent thanks for what you do as well including these videos. Kevin

Being older than Roy my memory goes back to reading Elmer Keith, Jack O'Connor, Skeeter Skelton, and many others. What is hard is just how few real hunters that write stories there are. We all have an expiration date that we don't know when. I hope we can continue to read the Likes of Dave Workman, John Taffin, Will Dabbs MD. and others for a very long long time. It truly is best when we celebrate lives lived instead of being depressing. I like to think we just graduate to another chapter.

@@fmgpubs I agree about FMG writers. I used to read shooting times because they had a writer that was from Utah and shot at the same places that I did at the time. Then Duke was writing for them but anyone with a mind could sense the writing was stilted not just his but other writers seemed to all sound alike and every gun was great and shot perfectly. When he moved to FMG I went along and have never looked back. I've always liked handguns and with a bad back I don't shoot rifles much anymore. I've thinned my long gun collection down a lot. As for age you said how old you were on the podcast. I'm 5 years older than that. You are one of the reasons I keep subscribing. Jack O'Connor said in his book on rifles: "Everyone will go through a single shot phase, then they'll grow up."
