More than 20 years ago, August 16, 1991, Lt. Eric W. Allison, 26, USNR; Lt. (jg) Kenneth D. Pickens, 24, USN, AMSAN William A. Jackson, 20, and AE1C Johnny L. Caulder Jr., 28, died when a blade detached from the front rotor of their H-46 Sea Knight. They were with HC-11 out of San Diego, flying off my ship, the USS Camden AOE-2, and a week from home after a long WestPac cruise in support of the first Gulf War. RIP, brave souls.

Cpl Brandon Coates aka DFC Brandon Coates aka TAC45. H&S Co 4th AABn USMC/Orange County Sherriff's Deputy Tactical Anti Crimes Unit. Two tours in OIF, killed in the line of duty while serving his local community in Orange County, Florida. He was a husband/a son/a brother/and my brother. He will never be forgotten. Semper Fidelis. I can't wait to see you again.

I am the headstone engraver at Jefferson barracks national cemetery in st louis I've done 10s of thousands of headstones I honor every stone I do. I did the headstone of Lance corporal Jared Schmitz one of the 13 killed at Kubal airport he is one of the few I can put a face too. Maj Thomas Kennedy. US Army. His first assignment as a 2LT was as one of the PLs in my unit in the 82nd. Loved Hockey, played on the team at the academy. Tough as nails and fair, but one of the most subtle, funniest people I've ever met. Quick witted, sharp mind. He was a great leader, but an even greater mentor. Killed 8 August 2012, Sarkowi, Afghanistan PFC Benny Franklin. US Army. One of the crop of young guys joining my unit after we returned from OIF1. Great sense of humor, one of the most eager guys I ever knew in the service. Loved to learn new things, very driven, always had a positive mindset, and loved to laugh. Killed 7 October 2005, Kandahar, Afghanistan. LCPL Chris Lyons. USMC. Sadly, I didn't get to know him as well as I would have liked. His widow is a friend and classmate of mine from school, and the fact Bethany chose to marry him spoke volumes about his character as a man. His family and brothers in 3/25 would describe Chris as humble and hard working, he had a huge heart and loved his family and brothers. He loved to make people laugh and uplift and encourage everyone around him. He was always willing to do anything asked of him without hesitation or complaint. Killed 28 July 2005, Cykla, Iraq 1LT Michael Runyan. US Army. ... this one hurt a lot to hear about. I had his mom as a teacher in high school, and I graduated with his sister. His mom may not have been liked by a lot of students, but she cared and wanted to see everyone succeed. She was tough, but fair, and would put hours in with you outside of class if she knew you were willing to do the work. Mike and his brother and sister inherited that sense of fairness and willingness to help anyone willing to help themselves. He could change the mood of a whole room in 5 seconds with a quick joke, and his big, cheesy grin. He had an infectious personality, and was born to lead. Killed 21 July 2010, Muqdadiyah, Iraq. Maj Michael Stover. USMC. Grew up the next town over from him, and knew his family. Damn good leader. Loved his men like his own children. His whole family are the kind of people to open their door to anyone in need. Killed 3 June 2006. Taqaddum, Iraq. Spc David Jesse Garcia. US Army. The Azteca Immortal. Fucking legend in B 2/319th. One of the most beloved people in our unit. Incredibly positive, very genuine, humble, down to earth guy that loved spending time with everyone. He loved his family in and out of uniform. He didn't care what platoon you were in, or even if you were in a different unit altogether. Jesse truly believed everyone wearing the uniform was his brother or sister. Had one of the silliest, unforgettable laughs, and a warped sense of humor. Even though he was broken and hurting inside, he loved fiercely and lived voraciously. He loved traveling the country and visiting our brothers in the years after we left the service. Committed suicide 17 September 2013. Many, many more that I knew in my days in the Army or from the area I grew up in, but these 6 are the ones that always are in my heart.

My grandfather (Navy) sadly lost his battle to cancer a couple years ago. Thank you for being a good grandfather, and you will Never, Ever be forgotten.

There’s a time to laugh and there’s a time to be serious. We put on a brave face but we’ve all lost loved ones. We’ll always do our part to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Beautifully done…very sobering of what Memorial Day truly means. Names have power, names put humanity to a statistic, reading the names out loud means we do not forget. I cried at this and am so grateful for men of such valor that they gave their lives that I live free and comfortable. Much respect for y’all doing this. Words seem so inadequate, but thank you.

This Memorial Day I remember the brothers I lost in my 2 tours in Iraq and all the brothers lost I didn't know but were proud to serve with.

On this day we honor our fallen Heros. And it is right and just that we do so but on this day we must also remember those who have fallen here at home. Brave Warriors who died at the hands of the demons that haunted them, too tired to fight on too proud to reach out. We lose so many great Warriors to suicide. Please i beg my fellow Vets reach out to each other watch your.brothers 6. We kept each other alive in combat we can keep each other alive now. The battle is different but the rules are the same. I was able to say a final fair well to the sixteen men in from my unit that lost their life’s in Vietnam from 1967-1969..I was picked to be on the first Honor Flight since 2019 from my town. On April 19, 2022 we landed in D.C. and spent the day..We owe the fallen so very much and we must never forget them..God Bless Brothers..

Army Capt. Mark N. Stubenhofer 30, of Springfield, Virginia. Stubenhofer died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit was conducting dismounted operations and was attacked by small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Died on December 7, 2004. Sir, you were and still are one of my most influential leaders that I have ever had the honor to have trained with and deployed with throughout my Army career. I still to this very day, sir, have your pictures along with your accomplishments and many fellow soldiers who have served under your command during the very short time that you were alloted on this plain of existence favorite memories had with you in our time of service framed and posted on my living room wall. It's been 18 long long years sir, that we rolled into Bagdad and I think of you often. Captain, you are not forgotten and we will never forget. Captain Mark Stubenhofer was the major influence on myself and the soldier I became over my 20 plus year career in this army. This man was a soldier's soldier! 1st Battalion 41st infantry Regiment benefited greatly from what the Captain taught us...well definitely I myself learned so much from my leader, my great friend and brother, Captain Mark Stubenhofer. He was and still is a man who when I was young kid scared to death as 1-41 Task Force kicked it into high gear plowing into Iraq at a high rate of speed...as this army does. Captain Stubenhofer was that type of soldier that you might picture going into basic training you wanted to be like that man as you moved forward in this career we chose. This man worked almost flawlessly under the extraordinary circumstances that we would quickly find ourselves in...deploying to war! The type of leader I didn't want to let down, ya know. And I can only hope that the Captain is somewhere right now and watching his soldiers in action kicking ass and all around the globe. Knowing that he had correctly and accurately his job as a leader of the excellent men and women who fighting with myself in Iraq in the early days of that operation. I loved my time with you all at Fort Riley, Kansas. To the battles who just like our Captain Stubenhofer gave their lives or their physical or mental health in service to this great country in my army...you are all true warriors and saints among us all. And it has been my greatest honor and pleasure to have served with such competent troops. You are all dearly missed and will forever be remembered as great soldiers who got the job done and accomplished the mission even at the greatest of cost and sacrifice. I love you all. I hope that those of us who are still lucky enough to carry on with this uniform on will continue to make you all proud to have been "Straight and Stalwart". Captain Stubenhofer...I might not have made it this far had I not had you, sir, as my leader. We will carry on as you had told me that we had better do no matter what unit any of us ever come into. I was at Kandahar Airfield for 22 months between 2009-2011 It was a really hot time (combat wise) during the war because of the surge. This Video gives me chills every time I've watched it which is multiple times and day since they released, over half of these guys were KIA in Kandahar Province or Helmand Province both of which I spent a majority of my time running the roads. I didn't know your brother but I don't have to to shed tears for him. ✝️ Sorry for your loss. 🇺🇲

The only time I cry is when thinking my of dead grandfather, good dads, and the American war heros that gave there lives.

Let us never forget, those who journeyed into the howling dark, and did not return. For their sacrifice required bravery, and courage beyond measure.

This was the first I watched today upon waking up. Really put today into perspective for me, thinking of family and friends that served, some never came home. We owe more than then we really could understand. To all of these, I, thank you.

Private First Class (can’t really remember his outgoing rank) Jesse Hugh Veach, my stepdad, USMC WWII in the South Pacific, passed away August 9, 1973. My birthday 8th birthday was 2 days after.

Have a great grandfather that was part of the US Expeditionary Force that joined the fight in the Ardennes during WW1. Killed in action by a German grenade. Account passed down was that it landed nearby & that he threw his own body upon it to protect the others w/ him. Also have a cousin, James Garland Nations, FC2c from the USS Arizona (BB-39). As far as I know he is still there.

Its so easy to forget what all these guys have been through when we watch their funny reaction videos, podcasts, and irreverent jokes. They have all lost friends. Brothers. Sisters. They experienced an incalculable loss to civilians like us. Thank you all for all you've done. God rest your friends souls.

He made some great music we used to listen to before post, and he was one of two Infantry Marines I remember that actually used the oversized chessboard they had at the embassy in Baghdad.

This was very hard to watch, the 07-08 surge into Iraq was not a good time. I as well lost many friends, how do I wear over a dozen bracelets? Everyday is a struggle and every day I miss my friends. Thank you all for never giving up and always reminding the world.

SSG Ricky A Keiffer, KIA, 3-15-2005, Baghdad. Hell of a friend, father, husband and NCO. He loved hunting and fishing buy most of all his family. (Both his immediate family and his mil family) There were many times he would have his bass boat on the trailer at work on Wednesday's because that was tournament night. After work he and a couple other guys would take off and go fish in a weekly tournament. (We were all National Guard fulltime technicians and we all served within either the same company or at least battalion) I don't remember how exactly he and I got started on our "Love drinkin' " catch phrase but we were known for it. Somehow we ended up in the same BNCOC ph1 course and squad. Every now and then during class we look at each other and mouth "Love drinkin' " and we'd smirk. Lead instructor finally asked "What the hell are you two talking about?" so Ricky flat out said "Love drinkin' " which of course caused me to lose all military bearing and I started laughing. The instructor didn't find it as humorous but took us aside at break and told us to knock it off, which we did. So many more stories of Ricky I could go on for hours. He was just a great guy. Well, time to go make a run over and see him. Some of us still go see him on March 15th and today, have a beer with him, bs for a few then continue on our way. Never forgotten.

I think written communication is such a beautiful thing, because no one reading this comment would have ever known those fun details you shared. I also love that you remember such vividly specific details from such a long time ago. It shows how important he is to you, and how important you are to keeping his memories alive and with us. I’m enlisting this summer and hope to build some close connections with some buddies during my time of service, just like you!

It's our duty to pay back the debt we owe them and our nation though we may be in tough times now we will have lighter days ahead. It is an honor to know these men had died for what they believed and had tied to protect us may God usher the dead who live with us.

“These things we do, that others may live” This may only be the motto of Pararescue, but it could not be more true for every serviceman and woman. They are out there every day fighting so we can have our lives and rights. All give some but some give all. Hooyah and Godspeed gentlemen.

I see them every night I try to sleep, the only thing that gives me any solace is we will see them all at the end of time in a place no shadows fall. Until Valhalla, Echo Hard Brothers!
