Say Darling Say - clawhammer banjo
Музыка
Played on a c. 1963 Vega Folklore longneck banjo that was recently gifted to me. :-) I had a cold when I recorded this (the only reason I could sing to this banjo way down there without a capo, I think, haha ;-p) so sorry that the vocals on this aren't the best! I will do another take and post a better one at some point in the future. To me this video represents solo oldtime music at its finest, though: relaxing in a chair on a sunny Sunday afternoon, not minding the mistakes, messy-haired babies running around and stopping periodically to dance. This is one of the reasons why I play this music. :-)
Learned this from Sheila Kay Adams (banjo part), Rosie Newton (harmony), and Brad Leftwich (starch-and-iron verse that I suspect, though don't know for certain, was a Tommy Jarrell original...)

Genuine vocals (babies too!). Playing so relaxed like we just came over to see what's up. No muss no fuss. You are following your path. Don't let anyone steer you wrong!
Every day I open my KZread and my browser takes me straight to this video. Quite by accident and by some google preference thing, I watch atleast some of this video everyday. How lovely!
Thank, Sarah!
It was lovely to watch you play and it helps me and encourage me to continue with practice so keep the videos coming you are a great encouragement😁🌼🌻🌷

lol, this would be like the best gift ever! i really want to get a long neck banjo, they seem to be pretty versatile and i have a lower singing voice.
Love this one....kids dancing around and all ! 😊. Sounds great too !...
Love how raw these videos are. Exactly as intended.
well done thanks for sharing ! love that little future long neck player pop in from time to time in the video
I'm trying to learn these kinds of songs on both banjo and ukulele, with modest success. There are some great teachers with online lessons that are helping me. But your playing and singing just rings so true.
Really enjoyed this. Well done!
Nice playing...I'm a longneck fan, too.
My boss recently gave me an old Tubaphone (1920ish?), that belonged to his father, who was my previous boss for over 25 years. I love it and I'm learning to play it. BTW, you are an amazing player, Sarah!
Really nicely done....thanks!
Amazing!
Fabulous!
...........Beautiful...........
beautiful
Love it! I especially like where you sing higher on "if the dog name Rover don't bark". Don't know if that was intentional, but I sing it that way because of your video and it changes it up a bit. Love what you do!
wow,great !! from a Swiss-Longneck clawhammerer
Nice!
When I first started trying to learn to play banjo, I got a long neck Gibson and it was a very good one.... The filth string was up at the 7th fret so I got rid of it and got a cheap one with the 5th string at the 5th fret.... I was so naive I knew nothing about a capo.... I could have kept the nice banjo and used a capo.... I was such a dummy.... I wish I had kept it....
Lovely playing, voice and banjo. (Is it just the way the light is catching the neck, or did you get the extra frets added yourself?) please keep the vids coming, you are an inspiration. I love your version of Darling Cora on your fretless 👌🏼
cold or not i loved it
Loved it, Sarah ! Who choreographed the dance routine?
Guy wolf from Connecticut . Am from Alabama
It's got something fairy like, beautiful, touching...
Any place to get lyrics ans tab please? One of my favorite KZread song and playing... So natural and human...
