Interesting video, confirmed what I thought really. The Saxton blades seem noisey, they squeal quite a bit, whereas the Freud sounds nice, you can tell it's quality. Would have been interested to have seen the results after a thorough clean, but suspect the results would be similar anyway. Great video!

To be fair never notice the sound difference as I always have some ear defenders on. I need to check this now 🤣 I think the results would be similar or slightly better. Which would confirm that Saxton blades are not bad at all. Thanks Keith 👍

if you shop around you can get the freud blades cheaper too. i just managed to get one from FFX for 25 delivered for my table saw. bargain

Recently purchased the Saxton Pro 40 & 80 tooth blades only used the 80 tooth so far and very impressed and still a very good price hoping the 40 tooth blade is as impressive. Excellent video BTW.

Interesting test, Tomasz. I think it confirms an almost general principle: a decent-quality tool can usually perform "almost" as well as a much more expensive pro-level one. This means you have to pay a lot for that extra quid of performances (productivity, durability, comfort, etc.) and therefore your choice is finally down not to overall performances but more to available budget and/or final quality of the work to be produced. That's why professionals always go for the pro-level tools: productivity=money and quality of work, in the end, is money too. During the years, I came to the conclusion that good quality semi-pro - or high-end DIY - tools are always worth the expense compared to cheap low quality ones. And I'm not referring only to wood-working but also to mechanics (cheap spanners - just to mention one - can do great damage both to your work AND to your hands!)

The Saxton Pro blades are decent and worth a try, IMO. I use them on my table saw and after a year of moderate use, they still cut very well. I do clean them quite regularly as I work with a lot of pine and ply and that helps a bunch. The best blade I have is the stock blade in my Makita track saw. The cuts are like they have been performed with a scalpel, even on white board.

I need to get my hands on the yellow pro ones

I've been cutting a lot of melamine faced particle board over the past few weeks, and it's such an unforgiving material. Chips, banged corners, etc - there are melamine repair pens that help with small mishaps like that. Even with very fine blades you can still get chipping on the arbour side of the board, so you need to be mindful when laying out and cutting. Anyway, a trick I've used for years is to score the board 1/8" apart using a sharp snap-off knife, then cut down the middle. The melamine chips snap off at the scored line, allowing you to make shelves with zero chip-out on both sides. Sure it's extra work, but it's less work than cutting oversize then sanding off the chips.

Thanks for the vid. I also agree with your conclusions, however, Saxton also do a pro blade (all yellow), which would be a more interesting comparison with the Freud. Your results of budget blade vs freud is not a surprise but useful info.

Hello thomas, again a very interresting video wich, by coincidence match with my own questioning about give up saxton to freud, and thanks to you I have a beginning of answer ... does the dividing knife is fit for the freud blade (thinner than saxton) ? By the way you should get a look to the channel of Guitben (french diyer) who give very interresting tips about settings for rage 5S ... Thanks again for your videos , keep going !

Not tried Freud, but first replaced the 40 tooth blade in my Evolution mitre saw with an 80 tooth Saxton blade, half the price of the Evolution blade, half the noise and no ringing at the end of the cut, no chatter, and either no, or minimal tear out at the tail end of the cut, working in mainly oak and teak with plenty of pine and a bit of Holly thrown in, okay you tend to slow the cut down a tad to allow for the fineness of the blade, but the Saxton blade performs much better than I expected, and has been in for a year so far, and is still doing fine, well enough for me to order a 40 tooth blade for the mitre saw, and the same for my table saw which will go in when the other one next comes out for a clean, I was going to order their pro blades (yellow ones) but didn't bother in the end as their budget range appears to do well enough so far, next up on the list will be some flat cut blades for the table saw as it's only ever really used for ripping wood down, interesting comparison in the video, I notice the Freud appears to have a very different blade profile, and relief slots, a decibel test would be interesting, to see if there really is much difference between the two...

I still need to try out the yellow blades. Yes next time I'll measure the decibel. I always use ear defenders so I don't really hear the difference but it will be interesting to find out if one is noiser than the other

Thanks again I am an amateur woodworker, making some both bath and kitchen cabinet. I’m using a super premium blade in my tablesaw the Freud are considered my the cheap blades in most cases the Freud performed nearly as well as the super premium blade but I will continue to use the super premium blade because of that tiny edge such as glue line rips … I use a large amount of cherry

@@monteglover4133 I think we all fall into that trap. Although I always have a shop vac hooked up its the small particles that fly around the workshop that do the most damage and I have to say I hardly ever put my mask on. Mainly when I work with MDF etc. Bur should be wearing all the time 🤔

Great video Tomasz, I bought both the evolution table saw and the Saxton blade after watching your earlier videos and have been happy so far. Might try the Freud blade next time. Have you ever managed to find a flat tooth grind blade to fit the evolution saws out of interest?

Saxton I think are like many similar ones at a similar price point...with poorer quality (ie not fine grain C3) carbide teeth which have less meat on them than the Freud. Been there and feel it's false economy, but we use them professionally so they get a hard life on a lot of sheet materials which tends to rip through blades. None of the cheapest ones last the distance IME. The best bang for the buck for longevity and quality seems to be two makes: Freud Professional range and Shark Pro range. Shark blades are UK manufactured and have very impressive runout tolerances and excellent quality carbide teeth similar to the Freud Pro. I'd advise spending between £30 and £40 and having a blade which will cut better and last longer. It's not a lot of money to get more precise cuts from blades which have better runout tolerance and carbide quality plus consider the value of the timber you're using by comparison. These decent blades are still not that expensive and can generally be resharpened and double their working life. It's not worth resharpening cheap blades tbh, as it costs more than the blade's worth.

It all depends what you do. If you are an occasional DIYer I don't think you need to spend more money. However if you will work your blade a lot then you are absolutely correct.

@@CasualDIY Indeed, yes. No point in spending a lot if you only run 10m or lss through a home workshop each year, but start running 100m+ through and that's when you'll see the benefits. I get through 100's of metres in cutting each year so a no brainer is using better quality blades.

Hi Tomasz. Good demonstration. You can almost buy three Saxon saw blades for the price of one Freud saw blade, so really you have two new sharp saw blades to substitute out if the finish is starting to deteriorate midway through the job. This may give you a better finish towards the end of the job as the Freud saw blade is doing/done three times the work. The Saxon blades should be fine for the part time woodworker if cost is an issue. Tony

Exactly for a normal DIYer the Saxton blades will be absolutely fine. However if you aren money from your woodworking then it's a worth investing in a better blade

Hi Tomas, I am on my 3rd Saxton blade already, but I stick with them due to the bore size. How often do you use 40T vs higher teeth count?

Higher teeth only for cross cuts ( mainly on mitre saw) and for final wood prep for projects.

blades usually come with packers to cater for smaller bore.

good evening every table saw circular saw etc. I have purchased i have always changed to a Freud blade cant beat them.....top tip cutting mdf gums up take the blade clean them in fairy liquid clean with a tooth brush just like new. by the way not sponsored by fairy liquid

Hi I have been using saxton blade for a while I have done a project where I use it to a limit on my evo rage 5 s table saw . It was still going strong but decided to resharp blade ( by professional) it cost me only 3-5£ for a blade but it come back better than new . Maybe some topic for next video 📹 🤔 .

Yeah i even give a evolution blade to be resharpen and the guy put missing tooth as well so save a lot there by doing that compare about 5£ to do that or buy new evolution blade 🤔
