Hi Legend, I'm an old Total War player (played Rome back in the days then Med 2 when it was released, got hyped for ETW and was really disappointed, I've not played any of the more recent ones), just found your channel a couple weeks ago, really love your content! You got me hooked to the game again, just bought M2TW on steam and started playing again, it hasn't aged a bit! I've learnt a lot watching your videos and I quite enjoy your "no filter" approach. Props to you for all that good work!

I really enjoy the later period campaigns only because you rarely play that period. Its nice to see you command fully professional armies.

At the end of the episode you should toggle_fow so we get too see the whole map

Venice has a bridge right next to it and that's the only way in. That plus cannon towers means that the place is basically unloseable for the player lategame lol

Pike and Shot is not for everyone. It is a very deliberate style of warfare, more like chess in some ways. I enjoy it, but there is no doubt it can be boring as crap for some.

I was always felt displeasure at the fact Total War hasn't gone fully into that era, but as best described by yourself, it would not be palatable for many. I've always needed to get my fix from ether prolonging a campaign into late game Medieval, or trying to savor what's left at the very beginning of Empire Total War.

there´s also a mod called 1648 Total War which covers the Thirty Years War. But it seems to be made by Germans and as such much of it is in German (things like Documentarys as Video messages) but if i recall it right you should be able to play it if you ignore most of the historical informations.

I have a great sentiment for Venice because it was my first faction which conquered all map in Medieval 2 😎💪

My only question is how do you make the cavalry speed away like that? When I order them they sit there, looking around like idiots.

saw that it was a venice campaign and was like "Yay! He's doing mine!" Then I remembered that I didn't make it to the 15th century before my reliance on merchants (it was an RP campaign) betrayed me :(

I felt that mass sieging at the 1 hour mark

I'm curious, why doesn't Legend use keybinds to issue commands, or even pause? Pauses I can understand if he's used to legendary difficulty, but not using backspace to halt orders or R-key to run? Reaction time goes way down. Or is it because clicking commands gives a better idea for the viewer of what he's doing?

What I find the most suspicious about this campaign - he hasn't uncovered a lot of the map, yet he is at war with almost everyone (one potential reason could be that the Pope called a crusade against him and everyone jumped in, but that wouldn't explain Novgorod). However, you can see that his fleet has traveled quite a bit - I think he probably just sailed around and blocked everyone's ports to start wars.

If you play on Very Hard and stay this small and weak this is what your campaign looks like after 20-40 turns, AI always dogpiles the weakest guy on the block. You may not have seen it happen before because it's a pretty easy game and you are ahead of all AI by 20 turns (I usually am myself).

You know that you can press the rally button and your general pauses to do the animation meaning they don’t run out ahead when you charge?

What to do in Shogun 2(fots) when half of the realm's navies is by your shore and you don't have a navy. Playing as Tosa and have conquered all 4 other settlement on the island. At this point, I been beating back naval invasions after another. :(

Restart and rush explosive shells (the first naval tec iirc), one of the strongest techs in the game. With that you can win naval battles fairly easily in early-mid game.

Oh well, time to play some Medieval 2 I guess

The Swiss guard is walking all over Europe while the Pope stays in Rome undefended. AI is a bit weird in Total War sometimes.

Where did you get this statistic that you have to kill 85% of an army in order to destroy it? From my finding, it takes the destruction of some 86-90% of any single unit in order to ensure that it doesn't come back.

I think if you attempted to verify this yourself you'll find it correct. 85% but go for 86% just to be safe because sometimes you've killed 84.9% but it rounds up. The individual unit doesn't matter. I've had whole units of cav run away without taking a single casualty but get wiped out because every infantryman in the army got captured and executed afterwards. The only exception is that if the army is commanded by a proper general, as in not a captain, you have to kill that general as well. If you don't kill him then even if you get 99% kills the army will still survive, unless retreat is impossible for them. This theory has worked time and time again for me without ever failing.

Not all total war games use the same annihilation conditions. Could have agreed with you right away if you mentioned Empire/Napoleon. 85% numbers is just for Rome 1 and Medieval 2.

This campaign smells like turtling to me. It's such a huge problem how many guides say you should build up and turtle. It's a huge disservice to the noobs. Here's a pro tip from a strategy game lover: turtling is ALWAYS the wrong strat, no matter the strategy game, if you see someone claiming to be an "expert" but they recommend turtling DO NOT trust them. Every good strategy game (read: not civ 5 after the Brave New World expansion) requires initiative, map control and rewards the player who gets these two things the fastest.

The AI in battles in most TW games is just garbage... how many times have we seen an entire army getting wrecked by 1 or 2 general unit just by flanking manouevers... I mean where is the challenge... and that it's not when the AI seiging army just sits there doing nothing while he is getting hammered with tower fire... it's just ridiculous.. and not to mention that most of the time when the AI charges, he does it with his general heads on and get wrecked everytime.... The cavalry in general in this game is just OP and general units are really just what you need to win... quite silly..

This looks like a deliberate. He's won 87 battles in the campaign so far and only lost 29 plus there was the steep drop in his faction ranking. There's no way he could have gotten on the roll that leads to 87 victories and lose it all with almost a third total defeats. Plus how upgraded his settlement is Huge City with cannon towers demonstrates he's had excess money fairly recently and shouldn't expect to see his current financial crisis. I'm calling foul play.

those could be constant sieges on venice, because if you don't start proper with venice, venice will be under constant siege by the HRE, Milan and Sicily sometimes. Even if you play on easy and I know because in my own venice campaign I had this situation where I was under constant siege, but won every battle and in the meantime I was destroying the Byzantines.
