I know of a tiny puppy that was born with a cleft palate as well and they did repair it with surgery very early on, but he had to have it repaired/redone a few times because it wasn't holding. Hannah, you and Jackson Galaxy have been my "cat mentors" from afar. In 2020, I started a TNR program for the Community Cats living in the alley behind my apartment. I had everything set up to get 3 females and 1 male sterilized. Literally, 2 days before their scheduled surgeries, all "non-essential" businesses shut down. I live in Pennsylvania and for some unknown reason, spay/neuter clinics were considered "non-essential." (I later contacted the Governor's Office and told them never to close spay/neuter clinics again) So, I had kittens, kittens, and more kittens and had a heck of a time finding reputable rescues to take them. I was a "dog person" and had very limited experience with cats. So, I had a very steep learning curve. Your videos enabled me to save over 20 kittens that year and taught me the basics of kitten care (like how to stimulate a baby after eating.) I'm now writing a book about my experiences and have a publisher lined up. I plan on giving you and Jackson Galaxy a special shout out in the dedication section. Thank you so much for all you do to help kittens and the people who care for them. Everyone is now spayed and neutered and I care for my small colony as well as the rescue cats who live with me. I'm on disability, so it's a struggle financially, but I somehow make it work. I have PTSD and these cats help me more than I help them, I think. Thanks again!

    @@aautumn733 thank you for your kind words. Yes, we desperately need more support for poorer communities. That's a major reason why I decided to write a book, because I really want to make the point that more people would get involved if the support for them was there. Our local SPCA advertises a "Community Cats Support Program", but in reality it's just a marketing ploy to get more donations. I don't know any Colony guardian who has benefited from this program. We have 2 ladies who help trap and transport cats for TNR. They do it on their own time and dime, because they care. I also find people who complain about the cats, but do nothing to help those trying to make a difference. It's frustrating, but I try to ignore the humans and concentrate on helping the cats! 😆

    It’s so cute seeing him kneading the air as the tube goes in. And when he’s suckling as the milk goes in, it reminds me of my daughter when she was first born. She needed to be tube fed as she was born premature and too small for the breast or a bottle. Her tube was a nasal one and as I would feed her through the tube, her teeny tongue would lick the air and she clearly knew she was being fed!

    I rescued a 4 week persian with cleft (more like a fistula actually) and opted for the double layer closure surgery when she was 8 months. For the first 8 months of her life she was able to eat/drink, on her own, but food and water would always get into her nasal canal and she would sneeze constantly and blow snot everywhere! She would also have chronic sinus infections and would always be on antibiotics. Now six years later, she is great. Fat and sassy, and has never had another sinus infection.

    @@rumiexpresse9049 This particular kitten came to me at about 8 weeks so she was already eating on her own. I fed dry food. After her surgery though I fed only wet until the roof of her mouth fully healed. I have done dozens of bottle babies though, and typically I start to introduce some gruel (mixture of formula and wet food) at about 4 weeks when they start to get teeth. They will continue to want the bottle for several more weeks, but I slowly decrease the amount of bottle feedings and offer wet food instead. Be sure you are using kitten formula and not cows milk.

Her lungs were clear so we knew it wasn't pneumonia. It wasn't until her third "sinus" infection that the vet noticed the hole in the roof of her mouth!

    My love of animals came from a man in the U.K. called Johnny Morris. He had a couple of children's programs based on animals on the BBC. One was for preschool children called Tales From The Riverbank and his most famous was Animal Magic where he played a zoo keeper for much of the program. Johnny used to talk to the animals often doing their voices, an amazing man who brought children into his world and to be interested. Hannah reminds me of a younger and definitely prettier Johnny Morris, she draws you in with her conversations with the kittens. If Hannah knew how popular he was she’d realise it is a compliment.

    It makes me angry that people know this risk yet they still intentionally breed cats and dogs with flat faces and just count animals like Chouchou (and others like him who can't get the level of care they need and so end up dying) as collateral damage worth the risk for the aesthetic they like.

    I don't think kittens learn to start grooming themselves until around 4 weeks so it wouldn't have been an issue just yet. I am interested to find out what the answer to this would be, though.

    My two cats are half-scottish, and compared to the other cat I have, who has not a single drop of any breed in him, sisters' faces are ridiculously short. They often breathe audibly, especially in their sleep, one has weepy eyes, the other has somewhat runny nose. And even that must be uncomfortable. And yet breeders are fine with such health troubles. If it was up to me, there would be no sickly breeds.

    This is an especially important instance of finding his mom. Seems likely she wasn't a stray, but a cat kept by an irresponsible breeder.

  • @aautumn733

    @aautumn733

    2 жыл бұрын

    Breeders are irresponsible in the first place. Unfortunately unless you can prove the cats are kept in terrible conditions there's nothing you can legally do about it. The best thing we can all do is spay, neuter, adopt. Never support breeders or buying from pet shops. TNR cat colonies. Foster if you can, raise awareness if you can't. Break the cycle of suffering.
