SAVING THE LAMBS • 47 FOXES & 1 CAT
Ойын-сауық
Saving the Lambs
Tensions are high this time of year for sheep farmers with lambing now in full swing.
Tending to their flock from sun up to sundown in an attempt to get the best survival rate possible for their newborn lambs.
Losses from bad weather and occasional mis-mothering are unavoidable however foxes are another story.
I'm extremely busy this time of year with lots of farmers engaging me to control the foxes that seem to appear like ghosts in and around the newborns.
I have contracts with 7 properties in this area and make several visits prior to and during lambing to address the fox numbers.
Having shot 148 in the area over the past 2 months I wasn't quite sure what the numbers would be like this trip.
To my surprise I managed to shoot another 47 over the 3 nights.
Lambing will continue for another 21 days so I'll be back down here to give the foxes another tune up next week.

Foxes are neither vile nor despicable. They are just foxes being foxes trying to survive. However, they are not native and should be eliminated if at all possible.

Foxes are great buddies compared to the rotten coyotes. Yotes get braver if they have 2 or more of them eyeballing prey, whether its baby ducks, calves or a hunter who's sitting on the ground (vulnerable to encirclement by a pack of 5 or more yotes). Only good coyote is a dead one. SOB's lured my favorite Border Collie pup away from the farmyard and killed him. Death to all yotes. No quarter given.
cracks me up that you have to continually justify what you do,to be honest I really dont get off on hunting video,s but there is something intrinsically satisfying about a man going about his work in an efficient and effective manner.

Use to do this in the 70s around the Bathurst, Eugrowra, Parkes & Mudgee area. Geezers, I still remember it was so super freezing with those frosty cold, zero wind evenings sometimes. Skin would stick to bare metal and numb fingers fumbling with the cartridges. Your modern tech astounds me and leaves in awe. Your ability using it is impressive. My .222 with a 4x20 back in the day with driver side mounted spotlight seems so primitive in comparison, but oh, so satisfying taking out foxes - it wasn't easy, smart animals. The memory of the farmer's gratitude though, with the most positive emotion still warms me to this day. Their beer always seemed to taste the best. Stumbled over your utube by accident and got mesmerized, it did an old fella proud. Best to you and feral animal control will always be a priority for the Australian rural scene. It's so important to keep their numbers down! Thanks...

Oh yes, technology advancement is mind blowing. Last rifle I had was a Tikka 22/250 with whatever scope I used (forget now) but rabbits at 250yds, not a problem. I recall well the Sportco Omark 7.62 was a major upgrade from the Enfield .303s with the big bore tgt scene I enjoyed for years since school, Bathurst and then became a range officer at Orange Rifle Club. That life is well and truly gone now sadly. Best to you, K

Watched a video on feral cats in Australia where they were talking to some cat hunters. One of them was talking about people getting upset and asking why they don’t catch and release. Usually that means giving them a check up, spaying them, and releasing them back into the area. In response to the cats indiscriminately killing wildlife one hunter said, “Why would you do that? They’re not trying to fu@& ‘em!”
