Whoever edited the audio on this video deserves a raise. The subtle detail of lowering the volume and looping the background beat while Michael talks, then bringing it back up and having the beat perfectly sync to the next part of the review is just wonderful.

@@henryDzieciontko I already said musical taste is subjective; lyrical depth is objective however. Anyone that thinks "99 Bottles Of Beer On The Wall" is lyrically deep is objectively wrong. On the other side of the equation, there are plenty of songs I can't stand that I nevertheless recognize have lyrical depth (a lot of Bob Dylan songs for example).

Grew up with Nickelback, always stood by them through thick and thin. Love Nickelback

I'm surprised Michael didn't comment on the scene where the pregnant woman had 2 timelines showing, one on her head, and one above her belly. I don't think he was looking at the screen when it happened.

I was in high school when this song came out. And I just realized how religious it is, about my broken, sinful state and need for Christ. Thanks Michael.

The reason why people hate on them is because their songs are considered cringe, yet everyone still listens to them because they are good.

@@Sam_T2000 The concept of cringe has been around for at least 2000 years, for even ancient Greeks found some things untalkable in public. Its the word itself that is new.

This is such a uniquely powerful song. In 2005 I was 13 years old, and ever since first seeing this particular music video for the first time, it has always had the power to move me to tears. The type/antitype of the elderly woman dying and then the pregnant woman with the secondary "counter" for her child gets me every time. Having those two scenes right beside each other is a stroke of directorial genius. The circle of life is a beautiful thing. Value all the time you have with your loved ones, and always welcome new life. Go in peace 🕊️💕

This Nickelback song is choking me up.. They've had other songs that hit hard and real places. "Never Again" is one...a hardcore issue, but satisfying song.. I'm so tired and sick of the demonic, hateful, and/or soulless messages in today's music, and I'm a music lover of a range of genres, old country to heavy metal; I need integrity from the artists, whose messages get into my head and heart. That's what music does, moves us, so it is a crime to use it on our youth, as a weapon. "Popular" "Top" songs sound the same, lol. Imho

If contemporary "hip hop"/trap music is what the elites want to influence the next generations with, I might just have to start advocating for a style of Islam wherein music is "Haram" and therefore banned. We can't afford to have our children and pre-teens twerking to Sexxy Red or Megan the horse 🐴 .... And while we're at it, ban IG reels and TikTok dances too. All terrible.

I think Nickelback is one of those bands that is just popular to hate. They don’t really know why they hate them, it’s just the trendy thing to do. Personally, I think this band is cool!

I once lived in Tokyo and was out with friends circa 2009, doing the usual karaoke shenanigans. I knew of Nickelback but that was about it. We ran into Chad (and their drummer) and hung out for a bit in the wee hours of the morning, in Geronimo Shot Bar in Roppongi. A gracious, friendly and humble guy.

I was 18 when this song was popular. Just moved out, working my first job away from home and on my own. I felt lost and this song kept me going. Gave me hope. Thanks Nickelback.

Nickelback's songs go across a spectrum of issues and concepts in life. They're very intelligent people and they're always the coolest band around They're the best! Chad is actually one of the nicest person you'll ever meet. His voice is also very good and his energy and charm is through the roof! He sings and talks to people, like actually talk to his audience and ask real questions and tell real funny stories during their concerts. There's really no truth to people hating this band. Always SRO on all their concerts and multiple platinum albums say it all. I was on stage singing a song with this band just 2 months ago and I can attest to how respectful, kind and just how honest these people are. Im forever a Nickelback fan ❤

If you think Nickelback is deep you are definitely shallow. I do think it's weird that they get singled out for such hate because they're just one of a gazillion bland and generic bands out there but they are nevertheless bland and generic. It's kind of like if "Who's The Boss?" were to be singled out as the worst sitcom ever when it's just one of a gazillion lame sitcoms that should have been cancelled their first season but didn't.

I love nickelback. A whole stadium of people agreed with my sentiment this year at their concert too

When they released "Edge of a Revolution" back in 2014 they were canceled by the powers that be and no longer "cool". That song was way ahead of its time.

I love Nickelback!!! My daughter in law just went to their concert, she said it was awesome! I don't think the video is disturbing, I think it is eye opening.

Not only is Chad a phenomenal guitar player, he's right up there with the great song writers, some people just can't get over that a Canadian band can make it to the top.

He's a solid guitarist at best. I would not use "phenomenal" in the same sentence with his name. It's like people using Kurt kobains name in relation to the word "phenomenal". Plenty of guitarists out there (rhythm and/or lead) that would blow him out of the water.

That doesnt make sense. Canada produces a disproportionate number of successful musicians compared to the US. Canadian musicians do well here all the time

The truth is that Nickelback was never a bad band. If you went back to the 2000's, you would have been laughed at for suggesting it considering their popularity. The joke about them being a bad is a meme.

@@angelmartin7310 true, they were all over the radio. I remember changing the channel three times in a row and landing on whatever the latest Nickelback song was at that time. Maybe that is part of the disdain people have for them. They sold out stadiums all the time. So someone must have been a fan. I do find it funny to play Nickelback songs in front of people and see who starts mouthing the words to themselves.

The video is very stirring, and also has seemingly Christian implications. The man who you see in the city suddenly sees time counting down above people's heads, (the symbolism of realizing mortality and that everyone is doomed to death in this world.) The man can't see a timer above his own head, but he saves someone at the end of the video, (this seems to symbolize the idea of Christians witnessing and others being spiritually saved.) He notices before this moment a woman, who is very content with herself, and happens to be pregnant. He realizes that inside of her is a timer counting UP, not down. (This represents that a living being is weaved and developed in her womb) MICHAEL, THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. This has long been one of my favorite songs from them, and for so many years I couldn't shake the feeling that this was a religious track. I think many people miss out on Christian or Spiritual symbols in music especially because many of us only associate those themes to worship music, but these are not exclusive only to one genre. Pay attention to those lyrics, folks. You'd be surprised where you'll find things like this.

I don't care what anyone says I LOVE NICKELBACK.. My teenagers & I were just jamming out to them the other day & saying how awesome they are... AWESOME. I'll hop in the Nickelback time machine, why not- I remember 1st hearing "How you remind me" and I was like: "huh. Not bad." It was actually "Too bad" that I thought was awesome. It had a sound of "realness" to it. People hated on Nickelback but nobody REALLY sounded like them in the early 200s. Whats crazy is if you listen to "Silver side up" its freakishly relevant to TODAY.

Nickelback was my entire childhood, along with so many of us. There are so many good memories attached to quite a few of their songs. I now live a couple of hours away from their hometown here in Alberta and listen to them often in my truck. I'm a proud Nickelback fan! 🎧

I actually started crying during this video because of the time of my life this song reminds me of… it’s cathartic though. And this song will always forever be a favorite.❤

My wife loves them. I have taken her to 11 shows so far. And according to her (bc I trust her on this) they are back. Huge tiktok meme stuff and latest album.

I know Michael would hate the sound of the music, but I'd be curious to get his take on Mourning Hymn by Chelsea Grin. It's about the singer coming to terms with an abortion and realizing he'll never meet his child. The band isn't conservative, but they've held common sense opinions that are especially rare in the metal scene. They refused to play in venues that required proof of vaccination

The separate timer above the pregnant woman's belly was a nice touch 👌 Not sure if Nickelback is pro-life, but that's a pretty powerful image. Life begins at conception.

If you’re ever interested in doing another of their tracks, I’d think you’d have a lot to say about “Throw Yourself Away”, if you don’t mind a bit of profanity. It’s a pretty heavy song detailing the infamous “Prom Mom” incident of 1997. The song is overall a pretty clear condemnation of the incident and infanticide as a whole, so I think it’d be a *very* interesting to hear your perspective on it and how it’s words connect to modern society’s tolerance of abortion

I honestly love nickelback, and have been a fan ever since i was teenager. I don't understand how people can hate on their songs and call them "cringe", while they listen to these new rap songs, that anybody can barely even understand. The lyrics on top of that, is in (my opinion) the most brain-dead words that could ever be bestowed on the human eye. How can you tell me, that a song that's trying to instill the philosophy of "Friedrich Nietzsche", telling you that you should treasure your life, treat yourself well, do good deeds, as you do not have an unlimited amount of time to live on this earth, somehow better than some random dude, rapping about dr*gs, money, and "b*tch*s" ???

Nickelback has songs like that, too: Animals, Shakin’ Hands, Something in Your Mouth, S.E.X, Figured You Out, and others. I broadly enjoy their music, but they have some songs that I avoid.

When this song came out, I was getting over my first real love breaking up with me, a lifetime of maternal emotional abuse coming to a head, drowning it all in a party party party social life. The way this song made me feel was pretty damn intense all things considered. I wrote the most beautiful, personal piece of poetry listening to this song. The paper has tear stains on it. What a dark place that was.

Nickelback is my guilty pleasure band. I loved them in high school and played their album All the Right Reasons almost nonstop when it came out. I sort of understand why their hated, but i still like them.

Love Nickelback and I checked them off my bucket list when I saw them live this past summer

Savin’ Me is one of the best ballads ever written!

I remember a hermit woman who once said God told her something like "I am so desperate to share my heart with the lost world that I inspire secular muscians to write songs that were written in Heaven." I believe it because there are several songs (like this one) that don't seem to realize how much they're describing God and the cries of the heart concerning God. 3 examples off the top of my head are "Every Breath You Take" by Sting which expresses God's heavy heart for lost and hurting souls that He loves but they don't know Him or even consider approaching Him for help, "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion which is 100% a worship song because no one else fits the wording but God concerning who the song is praising, and "Stand By Me" by Ben E King which sings of sticking close to God and not worrying during dark, troubling times.

I'm a Canadian and we make fun of Nickelback a lot but they aren't that bad.

There's a lot of people who say that don't like Nickelback but suspiciously can stop themselves from singing that intro to This Is How You Remind Me when it comes on.

I never understood why we are no longer allowed to like Nickelback. I still have a CD of theirs. I never listen to it but I still have it.

More Nickleback, their objectively good. Also for those wondering the point of the music video is: At first this guy sees all these numbers over everyones heads, and has no idea what they mean, he finally sees the old woman, who dies in front of him, revealing what the numbers mean, and realizes its time until their death. He then goes to a reflection to see his own, but can't see his own. He sees a younger womans time about to run out, and realizes shes about to be killed, and saves her life. All the clocks disappear, thus the time we all have runs out, but the outcome can still be changed The camera then pans to the womans perspective, she now sees all the numbers over everyones head, implying that someone saved the original mans life just moments before, and the cycle continues

Knowles reviewing songs is like me when I'm driving with my wife and pause the music to explain the rich theological undertones of whatever song we're listening to. Specifically, I remember rambling for a long time about "Bring Me To Life" and "New Divide" (Evanescence & Linkin Park, respectively).

Literally my favorite band, 1 of 3 CDs I had in my Camry for like 5 years.

I have loved Nickelback since I was 14 and I forever will. On their new album there’s a song called Just One Time. I’m assuming it’s about someone’s love passing away and they’re begging the Lord to just give them one more time with them. I assumed when they say Lord, they’re talking about our Lord from the Bible. There’s also another song and video that Michael should review that Nickelback done. It’s called the Edge Of A Revolution and it’s 9 years old but it’s more relevant now than ever. It’s like they predicted our future.

When I was a kid, it was cool to hate on Nickelback, but as I got older I grew to appreciate their music. Honestly, they’re definitely one of the many 2000s artists that shaped my music tastes.

I’m more of a Melodic and Technical Death Metal type guy, but I’ve really come to love Nickelback. Fun fact, the solo in Side of a Bullet, was an unused guitar solo recorded by Dimebag Darrell before his death. Pantera were really good friends with Nickelback.

Next song Smokey Mike should review is “Monster” or “Standing in the Storm” by Skillet. This song was written by a prisoner, who was crying out to be saved! So, yes, it is a religious song. I love all kinds of music. Grew up on old country and bluegrass. Loved hard rock and metal starting at about age 12 (I'm 66 years old). Nickelback can't be that hated, as they've sold out shows all over the world over and over, again. I've seen them 4 times (and have attended abouit 40 concerts in my life...all types of bands). They are flawless in concert. That's the test for me. If a band is better live than recorded. And, Chad can rip a guitar!

I don't understand why people say they're not any good. I think they're a great band, I love their music.

Nickleback occupies the uncanny valley between butt rock and country. Even though they are technically quintessential butt rock, the fact that their songs ping-pong back and forth between "having good times" songs and hopeless/whistful songs, plus Chad's vocal style bring them dangerously close to country

The only legit reason I've heard from people that say Nickelback sucks is that their a pop band trying to be metal/rock.
