I love that moment where he pushes her away... I think this is a memory he's having where he finally says "no" to the memory and pushes it away instead of letting it grab him lingering on that memory.. I think that's such a powerful message, even though that message is more from the video than the song. I don't know why people dis Nickleback, I love them. And I LOVE that late nineties/early 2,000's sound.. they called it "post grunge"...kind of like grunge, but a little more accessable to people who weren't into the sub-culture, very melodic with loud-soft,loud-soft and that gravely type of powerful and expressive voice... lyrics that are about real stuff, self exploration, and sometimes relationships, but more self exploration... Staind actually saved a lot of lives, many credit them for that... they are probably the best of the best of the post grunge, in my personal opinion, so raw and real.... but I absolutly love Nickleback too. You might check out "Arms Wide Open" by Creed.... you will love it, especially since you are the dad of two little ones. And definitely "How to Save a Life" by The Fray... even if you've heard it.. if you haven't seen the video, it is amazing.

I don't remember anyone using the term "dad rock" when I was younger BUT if you had said that term to me I would have thought of Metallica or something classic rock. And I would have LOVED anything that fit in the term because that's my sweetspot. Definitely the term is generationally based. All the bands he listed off are just 90's and early 2000's bands. All the stuff we listened to when I was growing up.

@@xkindredxsoulsxxx4195 music from the 50s and early 60s got classified as "The Oldies" when I was a teen, mid(ish) 70s. Today "The Oldies" are 70s and 80s rock. I think terms like "Dad Rock" could have come up, and totally a guess, because some social media personality used/uses the term and it caught on. Just like I made up "Gramps Rock." But I certainly don't expect that to be a new phase. Hahaha! Can you imagine Journey, Foreigner, Kansas, and Styx being called that?!?! Way back when it was radio DJ making up terms to classify rock music eras. Now of "could be" anyone with a large enough following. Again, I'm just guessing where it came from.

@@JFLY78 "Dead Rock(ers)" is definitely a term I have heard used by GenZ and Millennials. As the title suggests it's used for hard rock, alternative rock, and heavy metal rock (probably others) where (usually) the lead singer died. Always at an early/not natural death. Nirvana, Lynkin(sp) Park, and (for Eddie) Van Halen are the ones I remember off the top of my head. I can imagine Meatloaf joining soon.

@mikeledrew583025 күн бұрын
The biggest reason many people here in Canada hate Nickelback is because the year this song came out (2001) it was absolutely inescapable. It was played on every radio station, in restaurants, bars, malls and any other public places that play music, at one point that summer the song would be on so often you would change stations to every one of your preset stations (remember, it was 2001, so most people just listened to the radio and mostly just the 4-6 stations you could preset in your car radio) and it would be playing the same song on all of them at the same time. Creed got overplayed like that a lot too back then, it wasn't that nobody liked the songs (the fact they were played constantly showed we did like the songs), but it was the fact that by the end of that year we had all heard them so many hundreds of times that we never need to hear it again.

As far as I can tell the biggest reason people throw shade on Nickelback, FFDP, Creed, etc...is because they made it so huge. They blew up and got super popular in their day, so people tend to eventually rebel against it and say it sucks so they aren't on the same bandwagon as everyone else. I think most people who say they hate them secretly like them. 🙂

I think the reason people dislike Nickleback is 3 parts. 1. Their music is for all purposes generic and commercial rock. They make music to get radio play, and people hate that they have the ability to make non stop bangers. 2. Peer pressure. If you aren't a fan of Nickleback it's easy to join the hate wagon. 3. Their lyrics are oftentimes immature and sexuallly degenerative. The truth is 90 percent of their music has no depth to it, but it's slaps hard.

IDC how dirty their songs are, they're bangers and they certainly get you feeling yourself when you blast Dark Horse or any of their more explicit material lmao It's the same appeal as Theory of a Deadman and bands like them who go all out on the 90s/00s oversexualized metal. Bad Girlfriend, all of Dark Horse, Porn Star Dancing, etc, etc. There's a ton in the same vein as Nickelback that doesn't get nearly as much hate for the sexually degenerate lyrics. Disagree about them having no depth, even their sexual songs are usually telling a story.

The lore behind Nickleback's hate is simply jealousy. Nickelback's music resonates with millions because of the catchy hooks, relatable lyrics, and solid hard rock sound. The hate they receive stems from their super commercial success and overexposure rather than the quality of their music! They're a talented band that deserves recognition for their contribution to rock music and what it has meant for the genre as a whole. BTW, ''Burn it to the Ground'' will prove just how hard rock these guys are. Dad rock? Nickelback is dad rock? What? Solid, reliable, and you secretly love it even if you roll your eyes at it.

I've never been a Nickelback fan but their music is solid and they have some serious bangers. This song is an iconic classic and will always be remembered. He ordered a coffee and the teller didn’t give him the change. He said can I get my nickel back? It struck a chord in a uh huh moment and the name stuck.
I love ❤️ Nickleback all their music is Great! Awesome band 😎 When I say all their music is great I mean all their music!! True Rockstars🌟🌟👍🏻🎶🎶
It's only "Dad Rock" to Gen Z because it's the music their parents used to, and still do, listen to. "Oh yeah. Nickelback is my dad's old rock." I love "Dad Rock." And "Gramp's Rock." And even "Great Gramp's Rock." The joy of being over 60!🎉

The song hero from the Spiderman soundtrack with Chad Kroger (nickelback lead) and Josie Scott (Saliva’s Lead) is an absolute banger!!!
Love them! Loved your reaction!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
In the same vein as Nickelback is Collective Soul. They can rock, and have great lyrics at the same time.
One of the best concerts I've ever seen. I LOVE Nickleback
You def need to check out Rockstar! Banger song about the life of a rockstar, but you never see the band in the entire video- just lots of different people, including lots of celebrities, lip syncing to the words. Fire video and song! 🔥🔥🔥❤️🤘🏼🤘🏼
Always liked them. The older you get, the less you care what anyone else thinks and form your own opinions.

I’m 67 and love Nickelback. Seen them in concert 3 times.
The first time I ever heard Nickelback, was their song "Gotta be Somebody". I LOVE THAT SONG.
Love this song ❤
Keep the Nickelback reactions coming man, lots of great songs that get hate for no real reason. Enjoy! 🤘🏼

Yes. More Nickelback. The GOATs. Great live catchy songs. Try Photograph, burn it to the ground, those days, feed the machine
At one point the radio stations overplayed "Photograph". There was literally no escaping that song. It was on every station every hour. People started twitching. Gradually we began to hate.
I’m right there with you, it’s a great song… decided to end my 20 year relationship when this was on the radio, summed it up perfectly for me! “Photograph” should be next, and after that it’s time for 3 Doors Down, "When I'm Gone”… epic song with a military connection!
"Rock Star" has to be one of their most played video's, especially with all the cameos they got for that video. You should check it out.
I seen Nickelback with Default and Injected on an MTV college tour 2002. It was a great night.
My wife and I moved from Vancouver to Toronto in 2001; Nickleback was based and had a pretty big following in Vancouver. Our first show in TO was Nickelback that September at the Horseshoe Tavern, a venue with a capacity of 400. It was insane! I saw people I knew from Vancouver that I had no idea were in town. The band totally killed it and Chad Kroeger announced their album would be debuting at #1 on Billboard the next day. Sure enough. 👏👏👏
Apparently this song was played so much on every radio station that everyone got sick of hearing them, so people started a huge controversial meme about them being a "bad" band. To imagine you could be so popular that everyone just starts hating you is pretty rough, at least that's what I dug up from all those years back.

The new gen's are more into heavier & erratic music an to most of us OG's it is noise! Great review & reaction!..😎💯👍
Thanks for a great reaction! I believe you will also like Rockstar and also Save Me. Two great songs as well as videos! God bless!
I have always loved them
Nickelback is worth a rabbit hole deep dive and most people on here are suggesting Rockstar next. It's a banger, but I think you should go with Feeling Way Too Damn Good, Figured You Out, and/or Something In Your Mouth. These are my favorites.
