I am excited to sew again!! I got an old machine out because my son volunteered me to sew new covers for the neighbors 20 year old lawn chairs (he didn't save the old one for a template 😢). . . I got it done and went to the Dollar Tree to get drying mats and hand towels to attempt a carrier for a 9 x 13 pan. Get for taking stuff to church fellowships!

When I put elastic into a casing, I mark my overlap spot on the elastic, but I don't cut it. After I push the elastic through the casing, I have a long piece of elastic hanging out, no worries that it will get lost in the casing. Then I gather the fabric over the elastic and find the overlap mark. I sew the two ends together before I cut the elastic off. I find it works best for me this way. Maybe it will help someone else, too. Thanks for this tutorial. These would be good for raising bread dough in a bowl, too.

Seers finally gave up trying to fix it and gave me a coupon for a new one. I need to Seers as well. But I was trying to get out was it said you could sew over pins with it I never broke a pin but just I did bend a few. But it did miss up some needles when I did that.

Attach the binding to the back side first. Then fold over and stitch the front. Then you are assured both sides of the bias is stitched.

I feel a need to address a comment regarding not using bias tape. I am curious how you would apply the elastic to the fabric? I’m a seasoned crafter/quilter/garment seamstress and I’m curious because I can’t think of a better way. I’m kind of old though and maybe I’m just forgetting something. I hope this doesn’t sound snarky because it’s not meant to be. ❤👍😎🧐

It’s a great question! You can fold the hem in at 1/4 inch around the circle and press and then turn in another 1/2 inch around the circle and press. The reason I chose the bias tape method is that it could be argued that trying to hem a circle as a beginner sewist can be just as challenging if not harder than using bias tape which naturally arcs with your fabric. There’s a million ways to do things when it comes to sewing and I always appreciate people like you who use kindness and genuine curiosity in their tone when asking questions or commenting. Thanks for being you! ❤❤ Happy Sewing! 🎉

@@shesewsseams I think the nicest, most professional way is with the bias tape. For me fiddling about with seams on a circle just isn’t worth the effort. I’ve done it, but my arthritic fingers just don’t want to do it that way!🤪
