The only reason Merwin had to die like this is because if he didn't he would of just soloed all the monsters by himself, he said it himself. The game would be pretty short if it was just Merwin doing it all himself.

I cheated cause I know morphine can cause respiratory depression irl. As an experienced horror gamer ya massive hint is “Jesus, let off, you’re killing him”. As a novice gamer though I totally would have thought to just keep holding his mouth cause well that’s how it’s scripted and big bad monsters are coming at the hint of noise. In a novice gamer’s defense, morphine takes 5-10 mins going in an IV line depending on what type of genetic metabolizer he is. So to have him die after literally just being injected via IM is unrealistic. If I designed this part I would at least done the order of injection first then given players the 2 chances given (probably even more chances, capped off due to timing). Fentanyl would be more “realistic” (imagine if the injector were to break/leak in battle lol) if it were given in terms of onset of action.

@@CNe7532294 holy crap. I watched Jacsepticeye play this and at the time I was like he says you are choking him, why is it prompting the QTEs..? I think that was badly designed because you want the option, keep quiet or let go. It isn't obvious that you have another option by not pressing the prompts because in most games you need to do that. Its rather silly. If it had the choice that would have worked better and if people had been listening then they would have understood to let go.

I love the options in this game, but I wish they allowed a possibility for each side-character to make it to the send. Saving Clarice or letting her infected version run around by the end of the game, for example. Merwin being sent to the surface early, Joey surviving the attack above ground, etc.

Fun fact: merwins voice actor is the same one as nomad from ghost recon breakpoint...Alex Mallari jr.

Though if you do have the air support Salim can't escape in time to see his son (if he's still alive), so I supposed if you find him useful to keep around depends on how much you like Salim lol

The only time we get to have a side character survive is Junior, one of the pirates in Man of Medan if you use the oxygen tank or whatever its called. You even get a achievement for it

My sister & I were playing this game and we had no idea that you could kill Merwin when Nick covered Merwin’s mouth / neck. We both just thought Nick was covering Merwin’s mouth to make him shut up, so we kept hitting the QTEs… Next thing we know, Merwin is dead.

Was it Telltale games that gave percentages of what players chose for each big choice in the game at the end of a chapter? Something like that would be fun for these games

Probably because the creature infected him with the parasite instead of outright killing him. On top of that, morphine and other military grade medications are potent and I believe when paired with proper field dressings they can get a man back on his feet in a short time as long as it's just gunshots or lacerations. Not necessarily combat ready, but enough to get him out of there.

Rachel can be saved by cocooning her (you need to have a good relation with Jason so he doesn’t shoot/chase her once she starts to turn and she has to say she wants to live) and then at least one character needs to survive the surface attach (other than Salim maybe, since if there was no air support called he walks off into the sunset,) else she’s presumed dead by the clean up crew

Well, it will kill Erik, but not necessary Rachel. If Nick and Jason help him, they won't arrive early to the zone where Erik is struggling with the rope and Rachel, so if Erik don't cut the rope he will die, because Nick won't be there to help him (Hope I informed myself correctly, HAHAHHAHAHA).

Honestly, Merwin needed to go that way Salim can go home safely

Would be true if, it had hit at an angle causing it to deflect elsewhere. But a direct hit like it was, would go straight through. Those PASGT helmets weren't rated to stop rifle calibers, so it isn't a surprise that a 7.62x39 went through it.

Would have been more interesting if he got infected and became an undead later on instead of just getting up, walking on over, fuckin with the radio, and dying anyways. You might as well just fucking kill him because he does practically nothing if you save him.

Actually, you can die from suffecation under those conditions. With extreme amounts of pain and panic someone can go through, like Melvin, you need all the breath you can get.
