Savarez 520J HT Rectified Nylon Trebles Review | Mark Cohen | Nylon Plucks

Музыка

Classical guitarist Mark Cohen reviews rectified nylon trebles from the Savarez 520J set. It is the Savarez 520J (wrongly supered in the video as 520RJ). He illustrates the sonic properties of the Savarez set on hi Marcus Dominelli guitar. Do subscribe to our channel for more engaging discussions like this on the classical guitar. Mark explains the concept behind rectified nylon as against clear nylon strings for classical guitar. Mark also plays the same Sor Study he played when he reviewed both Augustine Paragon Blue HT and the La Bella 2001 HT strings a few weeks ago. He now plays the Study on the Savarez rectified nylons so that you can compare the results with the earlier version. All 3 versions are featured in this video. As Mark suggests, you can also look at the 5-Step Guide for Your Perfect Classical Guitar Strings at www.nylonplucks.com/strings .
Major brands of classical guitar strings like D'Addario, Savarez, Augustine, La Bella, Hannabach and others are reviewed including various materials and tensions. Use the systematic process at www.nylonplucks.com/strings.

Thanks for doing this. I have used 520R quite a lot and keep going back to them for classical as well as flamenco repertory. The stability of the intonation is a major advantage. La Bella rectified trebles are also very good. To be sure, I need all the help I can get.

We all need all the help we can get, Tony. Have you tried the Pepe Romero by LaBella rectifieds? They're more expensive, but I've heard that they're rectified and then polished. I wish that one could buy a set with rectified B & E and carbon G (similar to the Savarez "Creation" set).

Savarez 520R is very good string, especially the plastic-wound G string. Many people don't like because it slows them down, but I found it ok when you are used to it. The brightness of it is simply a winner. Carbon strings are nylon strings. They are the fluorocarbon polymer, which is stiffer. That's why they are called 'carbon' as marketing gimmick. Being stiffer, they are brighter. But there is also a polymer derived from sugar molecule, called nylgut. It is also brighter because it is more brittle. It is this brittleness that causes the premature snap. Aquila Sugar is made of this material.

Nice. After a string spontaneously popped in the middle of the night, I have just put my first rectified set on with a Tusq nut. Trying D'addario normal tension and so far I like the tactile feel of the strings.

So, 'rectified' merely means, through a certain process, the string is, after initial extrusion, 're-extruded' or some how shaven to remove 'mountains and valleys' along its length, making the string nearest to perfectly contoured throughout, in turn retaining the best intonation on each note along it.. Yes ?

I don't know why it sounds so distorted. Is it due to your recording equipment? It can't be due go your guitar. I have used it on cheap Yamaha C40, it sounds good.

Aren't rectified nylon strings just ground or textured? I don't think they lack roundness but rather are somehow textured and the glossy feel of clear nylon is taken away. Greetings from México!

Greetings from the snowy Midwest, Javier! The answer to both of your questions is "yes". They are ground, which results in the texture. Whether the glossy feel is taken away or the textured feel is provided is, I suppose, a value judgement (and one that many feel strongly about). Until I figured out how to grow nails, I felt more secure with the feeling of rectified nylon on my fingers. The criticism that they squeak more with shifting doesn't seem to be a major issue, though I suppose there may be some brands that squak more than others. I think (but I'm not sure) that the Pepe Romero rectifieds may undergo an additional polishing step after they're ground. Merry Christmas!

The point with rectified strings is not just intonation, it is the beauty of tone which is the most important element in classical guitar playing. Please, tell me if there is better sounding string than Pepe Romero medium rectified? La Bella low tension rectified is also great. Saying all this, I have to admit that rectified strings do not have the best sustain.

Thanks, nebo! Have you noticed if Romero rectifieds are different than La Bella? I know they're both made by La Bella, but I think I read that Romeros add a polishing step at the end.
