The middle east is the linchpin for historical trade with India and Asia… neutralize those territories for prosperous trade. The dumb part is no one needs outdated trade routes, since we all have the tech to become self sufficient but which lazy king wants a self sufficient population.

They weren’t hacked or anything like that. They wanted the attack to happen so they could use it as justification for doing what they are doing now. This sort of thing has occurred plenty of times in the past and it’ll happen again. So, who’s worse, a murderer, or someone who sees the murderer coming and has all the power to stop him but steps aside and let’s the murder happen so the situation can be used for selfish gain? The selfish gain guy is worse.

Industrial revolution, empire and colonialism could never be separate from one another because remove one and the others would never have happened. Sadly that's just how it is if anything focusing on the causality and symbiosis that occurred would grant a better understanding of the subject and why it's good.

I beg to differ. Cheap labour, particularly slavery, hampers industrial development. In Rome there were many cases of technological advancement being stifled due to slave labour deeming them unnecessary. Britain's industrial revoultion kicked into gear with the abolition of slavery. Comparisons can also be made between the Union and Confederate states. In the US crop picking is done by illegal migrants rather than automated.

@@datuputi777 Then why did other empires not have an industrial revolution? Those characteristics were not unique to Britain. Plenty of other contemporary empires had colonial outposts and others throughout history had excess resources, yet no industrial revolution took place.

@entonbray They had them in their colonies, for example, Haiti for France and many more in the Spanish, dutch, Portuguese empire. Also, the industrial revolution happened throughout Europe it just happened more drastically in England because it's actually far behind its neighbors. Also, they wrote the history you're reading so they'd always overemphasized their "achievements" while downplaying others, but glossing over simple factors would make you realize that some were already ahead of them. Also, the industrial revolution is not exactly all positive to the human standard of living, for it produced the likes of the elephant man.

The only thing that will work is for Israel to force Gaza Arabs to decide if they wish or not to be Israel citizens. Non Israel citizens are to be removed from Gaza and sent to another country that has similar Arab culture, such as Lebanon, Iran and Jordan. Continuing the same path as we have for 75 years has proven pointless.

UK should be ashamed for letting these pro Hamas demonstrations go unpunished

*Yes.* 18 years ago they uprooted more than 20 jewish communities (of which some were actually ancient jewish communities) that were present in the area of the Gaza strip and gave *complete control* to the arabs themselves (note that more than 50% of gazans are actually egyptians). Israel left behind millions' worth of greenhouses and an entire system of waterpipes to carry water in the area. The very next year, the people in Gaza voted in Hamas. Hamas started to execute members of Fatah (their political rival) and began a civil war among arabs. They used the waterpipes and material from the greenhouses to build rockets and tunnels. They began suicidebomb attacks at Israeli restaurants, bars, public buses etc. Israel then chose to put a stop to it by creating fences to prevent them from entering Israeli cities. When people accuse Israel of ''apartheid'' this is what their damaged brain is referring to: If you build a wall to stop a group of people from entering your cities and plant bombs everywhere, you are racist.

@@magnumopus1628 Yes, but then again over that period Israel lost 300 citizens to Hamas and responded by killing 6000 Palestinian civilians using indiscriminate missile attacks. They claim they were targeting Hamas, but here we are 15 years later and Hamas is in great shape, carrying out a massive attack against Israeli citizens. The truth is clear from the stats - Israel likes Hamas. I suspect Israel intends to use Hamas to spread terror to both the West Bank and Gaza and engender hatred in the Palestinian population such that the two-state solution become impossible and eventually the terrorism justifies Israel's ethnic cleansing of the area so no Arabs are remaining. Not that I care, but lets not be sucked in to propaganda from the one side or the other - both are up to no good.

Israel has every right to own the "West Bank", which is actually Judea. The Jordanians invaded the area in 1948, annexed it illegally and filled it with Jordanian settlers. In 1967 Jordan, Egypt and Syria launched a war of annihilation against Israel - and were roundly beaten. Israel drove the Jordanians out of Judea, which is Israel's territory by right of victory.
