I have replaced stocks and sometimes it's a great solution. I love thumbhole stocks. Sometimes you really need to bed those stocks to even shoot well. There is more to purchasing a stock it doesn't end there. Also, for the less savvy people out there often the stock that comes on the rifle if torqued correctly will shoot better than another stock that may be prettier and be more to one's liking. The Savage stocks are usually pillar bedded even though they are steel pillars and if they are installed correctly in the stock and make good contact and you have the right torque on the stock to action screws, they won't shoot any better with another stock, but they may be prettier. Having said that some of the factory stocks pillars may not make good contact especially if the torque on the stock screws is wrong. Very nice video. I enjoy less expensive rifles that shoot good. I own a lot of Savage rifles and they all shoot pretty darn good. Nice thumbhole stock on one of them too. But I will need to consider a bedding job on it in the future. The factory stock on that one did not really work out and my thumbhole did shoot better, but it still needs a little help to shoot even better. Reluctant to do the bedding because I am afraid of screwing up the nice finish I have on the stock I bought. Boyd's makes some very nice stocks for you people looking for pretty and functional stocks for a fair price.

The 6 ARC is a really cool cartridge!! I've been wanting to build one for a while now and just bought a barrel yesterday. After how good the 20 inch Proof Research match barrel I bought for my 6.5 Grendel shot I went with the same barrel for my 6 ARC. Now I'm playing the waiting game on parts to come back into stock but I can't wait to get it out on the range to shoot... I am very impresed with the 6MM ARC cartridge. I built two gas rifles, 18" and a 12.5" versions. They shoot fantastic with this 6mm bullet. MOA all day, from an AR platform. The bolt rifle will obviously do much better, but i am impressed with a 1-1.25" group at 100 yards, with factory 108 grain match ammo, out of a 12.5" barreled AR15 in this caliber.

I think the stock is awesome since it is dirt cheap. As a result, we can buy the cheapest possible 110 barrel action with a 22” threaded barrel. In 6 ARC, their other option is the more expensive Tactical with a shorter barrel and a stock I don’t want. Now, I wait for Black Friday to buy the chassis I want for it.

Loaded to Hornady's maximum bolt gun pressure of 62,000 psi, QuickLOAD likes RL17 for top velocity with the 1.26" long 105 grain BTHP that is in the Hornady Black. In a 34.5 grain H2O capacity case, 2835 fps is predicted from a 110% compressed charge out of the 22 inch barrel, loaded to 2.260" (if that is even possible). That's with 31 grains- but, as always, start very low and work up! That predicted velocity increases to 2936 fps out of a 26" barrel, so 25 fps per extra inch of barrel.

The reason I inquired about the Switchback conversion, it felt it would be an easy one. Swap bolt head and have a smith run a reamer in to clean chamber up. Two issues I see…money wise, not sure if I would be much better off once I got a new stock, mag, smith work and bolt head vs getting a new barrel cut for my Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro. The second issue is that I don’t feel the switchback factory barrel is going to be of a quality to allow the 6BR to shine vs the current 6ARC.

I've been messing with QuickLOAD again. *I still need an actual fired case volume,* so I've been using a volume of 34.5 grains of H2O. I ran some of Hornady's bolt gun data and it shows way over pressure and some seriously compressed charges. The C.O.L. of the 105 grain BTHP, which I believe is in the Hornady Black is listed at 2.200". I know some people were running into the lands in SAAMI chambers with factory loaded rounds when the cartridge first came out, maybe that's why it's short. For their max charge of 30.8 grains of LEVERevolution, QL shows a 117.3% case fill with 71,781 psi of pressure and 2880 fps from a 22" barrel. I didn't know it could even be compressed that much.
