In this video we review the Savage 110 Precision Elite, Chambered in the incredible 338 Lapua, the most powerful commercial cartridge for Long range/Extreme long range in Canada, making it the best choice for extreme long range shooting.
This is Savage's Best of the best their most top tier rifle for long range or PRS (not for PRS in this cartridge) and it surely does impress.
I've shot many different calibers but the .338 Lapua sure left a lasting impression, being able to deliver solid impacts that are audible/ visible and most notably being able to easily be able to spot misses made this a breeze out at 1500 yards, which is currently my longest shot thus far. if you can find 338 lapua ammo then this is a great gun to have

Man I feel ya on the whole ammo front. I got mine last year, it was the only left handed one I could find in Canada 😂 I bought it knowing I was going to have to reload for it. Even finding components has been a pain in the ass

  • @CplSkiUSMC

For .338 Lapua you have GOT to reload. Factory ammo is too expensive and as you pointed out, hard to find. On top of that, I've never had a Savage that shot factory ammo very well, but hand loads give outstanding accuracy. I have the Savage 111 Long Range Hunter in .338 Lapua and a 250gr Berger Hybrid Tactical on top of H1000 produces sub 1/2 MOA groups. The Savages like a short jump to the rifling of .005" to .010" I was dinging a 15" rock at 1575 yards time after time with mine. BTW, I've never minded the safety tang on the AccuTriggers. I can't say that I "like" it, but I don't mind it, it's a lot like a 2 stage trigger.

Can confirm from experience handloading 338 lap. Case dimensions vary very slightly with base circle and internal volume. 338 lap was a wildcat for a long time and there some variation of what guns were built to. You must select quality brass and a good hpbt projectile that works with your barrels rate of twist. My 111lrh shot better that .5"@100y with a tuned handload. With box ammo it was more like 1-1.5"@100y. And that ammo was 100-225$(us) per 20 8 years ago. For reference my stock cmmg ar10 shoots .5"@100y with a tuned hand load using 4064 and Sierra match king 168gr hpbt hand sorted to only 168.3gr bullets.

All right. Some big bore guns. I have the 110 Stealth in 338 Lapua. It's definitely not practical and I'll probably never stretch it to the max but it's really fun. Mine is an MOA gun which is probably limited by the shooter. Eventually I will flinch at it even though I am pretty experienced with magnum guns. Mine all up is 21lbs still is a good thump. Ammo is not exactly easy to find where I live. I was fortunate to get a case of it at about $2.50/round a few years ago on Midway. IMI 250gr SMK. I have enough ammo and brass for a long time.

Sorry about your "Canadian Handicap." I have this rifle, and it is very accurate producing a .417" sub MOA five shot group at 100 yards. What you are actually testing the accuracy of is the ammunition through that one particular barrel. Every barrel has its own unique harmonic node, and you have to match the ammo to the harmonic node of the barrel. Most do this through hand-loads or true "Match" ammo as I call it. Sometimes you get lucky and find something off the self. Mine likes 89.5 grains of H1000 and a 300 grain Hornady A-Tip.

@@xd2.023 the stock on the elite precision is an mdt acc chassis that alone is worth about 1100 on its own, the action is also blueprinted, the barrel is also a very quality stainless barrel. The amazing thing about the acc chassis is how configurable and adjustable it is you can add weights to change the gun balance, and reduce recoil more. There are rubber inserts that reduce vibration. It has a thumb shelf. Even the grip is adjustable and replaceable. A 26” tune would be fine for a lapua. It’s your choice, your money if you want to get one just to have it get the cheap one. If you really want to have fun with it get the better one. It’s expensive AF to shoot might as well do it right. That’s why I bought my 300 prc I don’t have the money for the lapua I want yet.

I've got one identical to yours, Precision Elite in .338 Lapua Magnum. Haven't shot it since I bought it because I've been busy with other activities. Something I noticed right away is that the barrel isn't perfectly centered with the front end of the stock, offset to the right if I'm not mistaken. I mounted the action on a second stock for test and it was again offset. Hopefully there was a temporary problem with the machine drilling the holes for the stock and everything will be fine as long as the holes for the scope rail are true with the barrel. Have someone noticed the same issue?

I also have a Savage 110 Elite Precision, but chambered in .300PRC.. Haven't shot it yet, still needs glass and rings. What I can say about the .338 lapua from my experience and other people I know that own them. They are accurate, but not crazy accurate on factory ammo... about what you can expect from a 1980s cartridge and factory ammo. The really tight saami specs just didn't exist yet. If you do load development and optimize the ammo for your chambering then you should be able to get 1/2moa no problem.. you've got 30" of heavy stainless and a good 1:9 twist, now you just need the right ammo.
