Sauron's Guise As The Necromancer In The Hobbit Explained

Ойын-сауық

Sauron is the big bad of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, but he is actually mentioned in Tolkien’s The Hobbit as well. It’s just an offhand reference to a character known as “the Necromancer,” but fans know that these two characters are one and the same. Why was Sauron hiding out under an alias, and what was he doing during the events of The Hobbit? Like many characters in Tolkien’s work, the Dark Lord has many names, and it takes him quite a while to enact his master plan. Let’s take a look at the truth about Sauron’s Necromancer guise in The Hobbit.

  • @gandalf8216

Not really the most faithful servant. Morgoth wanted to destroy so he could remake Arda, Sauron merely wanted to dominate the inhabitants of Arda. It's a signature sign there is evil at play, when they manipulate, abuse and eat their own. Sauron planned to overthrow Morgoth all along, and this relationship of sorts is reflected in the relationship between Saruman and Sauron. Saruman planned to overthrow Sauron, by way of use of the One. When it comes to Tolkien, if something echoes it's probably with intent.

I used to be frustrated with how it felt like The Hobbit was adapted to fit the bigger story. This was until I understood that The Hobbit was written from the perspective of a hobbit as if it's audience was also hobbits. fun fact. Tolkien wanted to follow up The Hobbit by writing what would be called The Silmarilian. The LOTR was a suggestion from his publisher stating that people wanted to hear more about Hobbits.

Saying Mairon, was known as Gorthaur, in the early First Age is not really accurate. While he was so named at that time by some, it was neither the only name nor even the most common way he was referred to. It was used between speakers of Sindarin only. Sauron, was used otherwise, though several other terms appear in various works. Sauron and Gorthaur have extremely similar meanings/connotations in Quenya and Sindarin respectively, something like "abhorred terror" or "dreaded anathema". Tolkien's propensity to give us multiple names for different places and characters can be utterly puzzling and confusing to new readers, along with those who haven't dug into the appendicies/read the Silmarilion or at least a few of the multiple versions of other tales like Beren and Luthien. It is quite possible this video came by it's perspective honestly, I certainly can't even keep all the variations of the Fall of Gondolin seperate in my head! I regularly think of Tuor wielding an axe instead of the sword Turgon had made at Ulmo's instruction, despite the axe Dramborleg NEVER appearing in any of the latest revisions made by Tolkien near the end of his life.

Has anyone seen the Movie "Indiana Jones and the Lost Arc?... If you do, remember Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) when he was challenged by an Arab man with a Big/Giant Sword, but since Indiana has a better weapon at his disposal than the Arab man with a Big/Giant Sword, Indiana just pulls out his pistol and killed the man with a single shot... Same Analogy... Why does Sauron use a Sword over them if he has some Power more powerful than the sword (medieval weaponry)?... logically speaking... does not make any sense at all...

Corruption. Saruman was always jealous of Gandalf, even when they were Maiar. In other words before they even became human. Saruman thought himself better than Sauron as well and wanted to gain the ring for his own so early on it was an alliance of convinces too.
