Sauber Mercedes C11 Group C Pure Sound at Monza Circuit!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Mercedes Benz C11 was a Group C prototype race car introduced in 1989/90 for the World Sportscar Championship. Built by Sauber as a successor to the Sauber C9, the C11 was the first time that Mercedes Benz chose to put their name on the car, instead of simply using Sauber.
The car in the video is chassis 89.C11.00 which was built in late summer 1989 for the 1990 WSPC racing season. But as soon as the car was completed the FIA changed the technical regulations for the 1990 season which means the car would have needed other modifications in order to respect the new regulations. Rather than modify this chassis, Sauber decided to use it as the prototype C11 test car.
89.C11.00 was used at 10 tests with all the official factory drivers driving it at some point (Mario Baldi, Michael Schumacher, Jochen Mass, Jean Louis Schlesser, Heinz H. Frentzen, Karl Wendlinger). It was never raced, all the major development work on aerodynamics and general chassis set up for the C11 programme was carried out with this car.
The Sauber - Mercedes C11 is moved by a M119 5.0L twin-turbo V8 engine which was able to produce 750 bhp at 7000 rpm and 800 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm with a top speed of 400 km/h.
Watch the car in action at Monza Circuit during the 2015 Coppa Intereuropa racing weekend. This C11 is driven by Kriton Lendoudis and Rui Aguas. Best lap (qualifying): 1'40.942

Yeah really slow.. The Porsche 956 Group C still holds the laprecord at 6:11:13 driven 1983. And the Sauber C11 was so slow at 407 kph that they had to insert two chicanes at the long Mulsannestraight at LeMans 1990.

The absolute record on le mans is for the peugeot, but they taped of all the air inlets to make the car as smooth as possible, it couldn't do it in proper race trim or even qualifying trim because it would overheat. The sauber c9, the predecessor to the c11 did hit just over 400 km/h during qualifying in 1989. The chicanes were added in 1990 and the c11 was a 1990 car, so it could never have hit 400km/h, although with a low downforce trim and the full straight on le mans, it should be able to match the c9 or go even faster. Sadly no one has ever tried that though.

+IngeBall _"And the Sauber C11 was so slow at 407 kph that they had to insert two chicanes at the long Mulsannestraight at LeMans 1990."_ I don't know where you got this from but it isn't right. Firstly, the last Sauber to race on the old Mulsanne straight was the C9, not the C11. Secondly, neither car ever did 407 km/h. The C9 did 400 km/h once and once only and that was Kenny Acheson towards the end of Friday practice (as it used to be known) in 1989. It wasn't enough for him to take pole position away from Schlesser. Secondly, the C11 did not have a high speed, low drag aero package like the C9 did because the designers knew it would never race on the old 5.8 kilometre straight. It _is_ true that a Peugeot WM88 reached 405 km/h in 1988 and it is also true that these speeds were the reason the chicanes were installed. Anyhow, last time I checked it was about who had the lowest lap time and who got to the finish first, rather than who was fastest on the straight bits. If you read about the C11 you will see that its greatest assets were handling and road holding.

I'm a mechanic with a history of depression that is now in remission. My mood is usually flat. Very very little impresses me (which is of course is not within my control). However, watching this astounding piece of engineering has made me feel like a kid again. It looks and sounds fucking gorgeous. The valve assembly is just silent... It sounds musical. I'm a 46yo man for fuck sake. Thank you for this.

Having things impress you in life IS in your control. You said it yourself in your response here. When you seek things that you love, it impresses you and "makes you feel like a kid again". Your goal should be focusing to refind that inner child. A good psychologist can help you identify these things. Depression doesn't have to be a life sentence, your mindset regarding how you seek joy and wonder has a lot to do regarding if you beat depression or depression beats you. I am a psychologist by trade and i focus on mens mental health. Goal setting and "rediscovering your inner child" is one of the core elements i help people address as a core part of good mind health. Another thing i would recommend us reading the book titled "Inner Engineering" by Sadhguru

absolutely, I honestly think either the C9 or the Type 49 Lotus are my favorite cars to drive in AC (but theres obviously TONS of room for that opinion because I have yet to drive each car) but its just so damn incredible how well of a job Kunos did reproducing each vehicle, in addition to the historical perspective they clearly held in choosing the cars they have made available until today. I love the different array of Le Mans winning protypes and especially the group C cars. No other simulator ive played as even remotely come close to AC. However I think its worth mentioning that I have 3x ASUS VG248QE monitors so im using a near 4k resolution and I have 144hz refresh rate and heavily overclocked 980TIs in SLI.... Sure makes the experience that much more incredible. Along with a proper wheel, pedals, etc.

Kyong Hansen man I wish I had your setup dude. Combine that with my TrackIR set and that would be the best experience short of running an actual simulator. What surprised me more than the Kunos cars.were the free mods. Both their quantity and their quality are astonishing. It was, what, a week after Early Access launch that we had the first working track mods? It's fucking awesome that there are people in e.g. the AC or Arma community that obviously have incredible skillsets, that use their spare time to make stellar mods free for everyone. And mqny of them are every bit as good as the official cars.

That is one of the finest sounding racing engines I've *ever* heard - and I am a racing powertrain engineer. The raucous V8 tone with overtones of turbocharger whir is just magical. I'm rather surprised how loud it is, considering the turbocharging. Plus, when it comes up heavy on the boost and the gates open, there is none of the typical gnarly and raspy sound. Anyway, absolutely musical. Wish I could have seen the group C cars in person back in the day.

We can all agree that this Mercedes has the BEST V8 Sound, the F1 Ferraris from early 90s have the best v12 sounds, the 787b has the best rotary sound and the F1 cars from 00s had the best v10 sounds. I used to think the 787b had the best engine sound of all time but then I heard the Ferrari 412 t2 and I was in shock of how demonic the engine sounded. Then I heard the Sauber Mercedes c11 and it won my heart lol.. I guess all of those engine sounds deserve a number one spot!!! at the end all opinions are subjective and usually change over time.

I remember the group c days very fondly. Always used to go to the 1000k races at brands and silverstone. Such variety of machinery, v8 sauber. V12 jag, v6 Porsche, the list goes on.

I don't think this is mentioned often, but the Sauber-Merc cars had probably the cleanest design in all of automotive history, and this is from a time where all Group Cs had clean non coke bottle styling. Everything on the C9 and the C11 were continuous and clean, like a single continuous line from the front nose to the rear wing. It was a complete, single entity. Smart of Sauber to use Naca Ducts instead of vents like Porsche in their 962. Maintains the smoothness of the design.

Every shot is perfect, and the sound is unlike anything else (the car obviously, but the recording too). I've probably watched this video 100 times by now lmao. Sometimes I put this on and just close my eyes and get lost in the amazing sounds that car makes.

I remember seeing one of these at Donnington Park in an endurance race. The engine had so much torque. it seemed to be reving so slowly through Redgate and Craner Curves but was flying past everything else on the track.

Nothing arrives and makes an entrance at a turn like this thing. Just hearing it coming is tingling, then the whirring and the bark and the howling roar as it gets poured on heading away. Obviously a lot of LMP types with V8's sound similar, but I've never heard any quite as God-like as the C11.

I don't care how fast and technologically advanced tomorrows race cars will be (Electric most certainly) there will never be a time in history where auto racing was as cool or fascinating as Group C. Some of the most monumental, (emphasis on mental) vehicles to come from Group C. And what a shame kids of the future will never get to experience auto racing with the pure raw sound of gasoline burning monsters!!!! So much of the appeal, at least to me is the sounds of the race cars as they go whipping by at break neck speed.
