Don’t ever think you can’t refinish wood furniture. I love this piece! I’m not sure what I would have done. Stripping etc takes so much more time is is so messy. But I definitely prefer the look of stained antique furniture. Love watching you work! So much better than doing the work yourself. Keep going with this worthwhile work.

Do it! It’s an easy stain to work with…unless it’s hot. It did not work well for me when it was 90ish. It dried too fast and was super streaky. I think you can mix mineral spirits in it to have a longer work time tho.

*Abby, I enjoyed this video so very much! It turned out beautifully; I always prefer stained furniture over painted furniture, even though there are times when pieces are so badly damaged the only way to save them from the burn pile or the landfill is to paint them. 😉🤎* *This little shelf has so much character with the decorative details and the curvy spindle legs❣️ I admire your decision to trust the process and embrace the imperfections and push through the challenges of heat 🔥 and humidity, 💦 🙉 when it would have been easier to quit‼️👏👏👏 You ROCK❣️ The snips of REAL GREENERY in that lovely ivory vintage ironstone crazed pitcher elevated your staging vignette to a dreamy elegance. 🤍🌿🤍 I look forward to your next upcycle❣️🥰🪴❤️🤍💙🇺🇸*

We were blessed to inherit quite a few pieces that remind me of this one. We know how many generations had used them, and that they are over 100 years old. Several have a few issues similar to the ones you dealt with, so I am excited to have learned about all the different products and tools you used. When you brought out the box of specialized sanding blocks, I was just amazed! I can't begin to tell you how glad I am that you brought this gorgeous piece back to life. I like to imagine how people used our pieces over the years. I was also amazed at your patience and determination to revive this piece. Now you have a stunning cabinet to use in your home, and hand down to the next generation!!

I really like this piece too, quirky! I’m only part way through and I’m sure others have said, it’s easier to remove veneer if you apply some heat with an iron or heatgun. You should be able to get it off as a sheet and please save it 🙏. Older veneers are much thicker and will be so useful for patching older pieces. I hope we will see you do some veneer repairs soon, personally I find it a lot easier than removing and replacing, and it’s definitely well within your considerable skills. Looking forward to seeing the rest later and finding out how it turns out.

I think it’s adorable. Just FYI you can use hot glue on the existing legs to do a repair on the one missing the back. Just make your “form” with the hot glue, use the product you made the small repair with to fill the mold after it sets up and you peel it off. Glue it on and you won’t be able to tell. Hope this makes sense.

You did a super job! Thank you for saving this piece! It most likely would've ended up in the trash had you not given it a chance... which is always very upsetting to think about. I think when a piece of furniture is made from beautiful wood with very intricate wood grain, it's a *crime* to paint over it. Restoration is absolutely the way to go. This piece was no exception and I'm really glad you didn't paint it. Like with everything in life, things go in and out of style. And I'm sure we'll come full circle to when painted pieces go "out of style" and wood comes back "in style." It's actually slowly starting to happen haha
