Awesome I find 2-3% larger will make things fit with ease especially if it is to be fitted like this case. I’ve been wanting to print a case for my de-burring tool. I’ll try this and let you know how it turns out. 🤔🤔 maybe TPU ?

I think his measurements were likely off, probably used too much force when measuring, not considering how much the tool will yield to pressure. Measure close to back of the jaw, ensure there's no gap there, and the blades are parallel and flat make contact surfaces minimal on critical dimensions only can allow for more spring, account for 2-3% shrinkage of PLA and 1-2% on PETG, and you'll be ok. It doesn't make sense to try to make it match perfectly for the whole profile, unless absolutely necessary, no injection moulded parts are like that, for good reason.

Negative horizontal expansion, also just design with some gap. Also the rotary tool... After just one print. I'd redesign and print

Those boxes are great, i used one to make a cusome sized first aid box to fit in a pouch. Its nice aslong as you dont recess somethining into the top and go too deep and punch a hole through

For those that want the tool, it can be found in most hardware stores in the plumbing section. It is commonly used for deburring pipe ends. I use it daily as a machinist too.

Also available online and people should know that the tip is meant to spin. Most people think something is wrong with it and leave a bad review because of this but its meant to do that for deburring the inside of pipes.

Anybody buying one of these tools needs to understand one thing, that round tip will not save you if you slip up. There's multiple people in my shop who've sliced the webbing between their thumb and finger clean in half by slipping off the part. Treat it like an exacto blade, it deserves the same respect

Also, never resharpen the blades by yourself, and don't use a blade that has the ball at the end remove. I heard from an older machinist that a coworker of his had done that and managed to slice open most of his forearm when it slipped.

I wish this was a full length, in depth tutorial! Love your work man. Keep that great content coming.

The reason it didn't fit at first is that the picture you took of the tool is in perspective (since it's so close). Try taking it with a zoom lens from further away or use a document scanner to get the perfect dimensions.

I use those everyday at work. You'd be surprised how well they deburr even steel. Great work on the case! Looks very organized.

You know I always have trouble finding burrs. I don't know why, even on inconel where the burr is more pronounced... I'm not a great machinist tho...

You can get these with a much smaller blade designed for deburring aluminium or plastics. Those larger ones are primarily for deburring steel items. The "ball" on the end can damage softer materials if not used with care. You can also get a smaller handle too with an even finer blade. Noga makes a 3 piece set with a straight scraper, hole deburrer and a small one like the one you're using here

Those blades are shite for steel. They hold a little on aluminum but eventually the cutting edge chips away and they cant be resharpened to save your life. Amazon chinesium is not comparable to the big msd bibles cheapy tools

The ball on the end is also crucial for safety, it prevents you from accidentally slitting open your whole forearm if it slips.

they sell cases, used these as a machinist for decades. but still cool to have one you made. the best ones have the old school pencil handle.

You can trace in solidworks using import sketch picture tool and sketching on the pic too

If you buy better quality, you’ll always get them in a case. Sometimes even includes some kind of holster to keep it safely in/on your work clothes. Also if you need a case for it, you probably don’t need the tool anyway. It’s such a common and often used tool that imo there is absolutely no need to store it away.

Great video man. If you could, I’d love to see a quick video on how to edit an existing STL because it often freakin sucks lmao

To my knowledge there is no good way, and I have looked. Something about the fact that the stl's are made of triangles but modeling programs want squares.

The best I've figured out to do is to just throw it into Blender or some other mesh modelling program. Trying to turn it into a solid never works properly.

Stls are basically uneditable 😂😂😂 sometimes I can import the stl to another program like alphacam or solidworks, save as a parasolid xl or Iges file (they generally work the best) and import it back into fusion again like 80% of the time it imports as a solid, this works with any file that creates surfaces instead of solids

When I used to work retail, I found a deburring tool in a box of merchandise. I thought it was made for cutting tape to open boxes. It worked great for opening boxes I didn't want to cut what was underneath the tape. Like cereal box cases.

I could see how that works well. In the machine shop I used to grind a few to a sharp point because they work better getting inside of small holes and running corners when they are shaped like a cats claw, however Ive slipped off steel and cut my hands gooder than a bitch that way. Nothin better than walking to the sink leaking blood over deburring😂

I use this tool on a daily basis. I work at a machine shop and it’s AMAZING at getting aluminum parts de-burred, especially holes

I use one of these on the daily on DiBond aluminum plates that we do prints on. A real lifesaver when it comes to no wanting to cut off your fingers on sharp aluminum edges

Most deburring tools can open handle ( cap or front tool that pulls out) parts and store extra blades

There are deburring tools with hollow handles to store your spare blades. This way, at most you need to print a cap to protect the installed blade.

The tool is the case. Typically the top of a deburring tool pops off so you can put the heads in it.

Only fancy whips have a cap on thw butt to store blades. These cheap aluminum tube whips on Amazon do not. You're probably thinking of those red ones with the black cap on the booty I forget what brand they are

Looks great but I never have much success with printed hinges or clasps on cases. I've moved to making a custom insert for an existing transparent case to hold things. Best of both worlds.

The feature is the canvas tool. Take a picture import it into fusion then size the canvas according to the item dimensions. Then it’s a case of tracing the outline in a fusion sketch. You can then hide the canvas if required and just work with the fusion design once you no longer require reference to the original image.

Most of these you can get your local hardware store in plumbing, you can usually open up the cylinder and put the extra bits in there but this is cool

In my workplace we have this tool too and it has build in storage space in the handle ;), the tool it self is like 8years old.

Noga makes a ceramic deburring tool (white blade) that’s way better for plastics. It won’t gouge and you can use it in both directions.

It's so beautiful

Every plastic (or other 3D printing material) has "shrinkage" while cooling down. Most manufacturers will tell you how much (usually in percentages) for each type they sell. Just oversize the print piece by (roughly) that percentage and you will get a 1 to 1 piece.

Something that is useful to know is tolerances, especially with 3d printers, you dont always want to be dead on otherwise the part might not fit together properly. Ofsetting your pieces can make your life way easier

That’s the tool you use for deburring copper pipe. We are soldering together a few pieces for plumbing and pipe of your home. I have a brush on the other end very cheap. Items

My dad was a pipe fitter, someone that professionally installs things like the cooling lines inside of an under-construction nuclear reactor, and would call that tool a reamer because it was designed to cut the burs from a freshly cut pipe off for a smoother joint between two pieces in a construction project.

That’s exactly what it’s used for! Except it’s not for making a smoother joint, it’s for eliminating the potential for future clogging. The tiniest piece of plastic sticking out from sawing the pipe can potentially act like a hook for a strand of hair - and then another strand, then some dead skin cells, then eventually a fully clogged pipe.

I’m all about those clip-to-your-printer 3D-printed tool holders. And once you have a good clip design, you can make random clips to attach random stuff, like I made mounts for my Xbox controller only printer. Idk why. I just liked it.

Make the outside black with some yellow stripes, would look cool

You should have used the deburring tool to deburr the case of the deburring tool.

There are so many versions of this tool that come with a case!

Plumber here. Have used many brands. Not sure what blades youre using on the deburring tool, but if you need good sharp ones, look for Mill-Rose. They have some of the sharpest and best lasting blades Ive used so far.

Very nice case, but from the beginning you could have just bought the NOGA rotary deburring tool where the tips are stored in the handle.

Watch yourself with those deburring tools, those blades are sharp as hell. I’ve seen a video of one go half an inch into someone’s thumb going through the finger nail and everything from the tip of his thumb to the halfway point of his fingernail

I love to extend use of existing items, like custom attachments for command strip parts to hang other stuff on the wall or in the shower

I wish there that debuting tools like this had a button to lock their rotation. Probably just my inexperience, but I always find it’s rotation messes me up, at least when cleaning up smaller parts

Just for info, those are supposed to be used on holes cut into metal to remove metal burr. You can use it for plastic but it is not recommended as it can blunt the blade faster over time compared to how fast metal can blunt the blade.

If you don't have a deburring tool yet get one. They are cheap and are great for brims. I definitely need a case for mine. I'm always misplacing it along with the blades thankfully I have a few lol.
