Saskatchewan Small Town Road Trip | Dundurn, Kenaston + Corner Gas
You think there's not a lot goin' on..... and you'd be right lolol. But in all fairness, I LOVE touring Saskatchewan small towns once in a while because there really aren't many places in the world where towns like this still exist. Join me and my Dad as we drive from Saskatoon to Regina and stop in some charming little towns along the way. If you've ever watched the Canadian TV show Corner Gas, you're probably familiar with what these places are like, but if you haven't, this will definitely give you some insight. Hope you enjoy the video! xx

I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. Drove across Canada once and the Saskatchewan sky was the best part of the trip...will be back again just for the prairie sky
The small towns are the heart of Saskatchewan… they’re a constant wherever you go, and the heart of Saskatchewan would be gone if those towns were ever destroyed. And yes, I was raised and still live in small town Saskatchewan! 😂
So nice you’re able to spend time with your Dad this summer. Nice daughter and nice Dad! We love you more for being a thoughtful daughter, Alina!
Saskatchewan is so beautiful in summer.
Your small town videos are some of my favorites, and this one's no exception. An excellent and insightful video overall 👏

I love how you honour and respect your father!
Thanks for showing the real Canada and not just the famous places and cities. God Bless You always.
A Saskatchewan trip small town road trip is a stunning way!❤️❤️
I must say thank you Alina. These videos from your home environment are really good. As a viewer, you bring me closer. Hope you understand. Closer to your feeling your upgrowing. These videos are more personal. And I thank you for that. And the music is good. Aspecially thanks for the scene when you fly the drone and the train and the whisseling song. Oh you are good. And thank you. Please go on beeing "the special beautiful you". And many thanks to your dad, for making this possible. Just beeing himself!
I am glad I can see you in Saskatchewan again! I am still hauling grains from small towns everywhere in SK:)
Always wanted to visit the prairie provinces, I think they are beautiful! Definitely on my bucket list! Life is better on back roads, Thanks for posting this video!
My father was born in Benito Manitoba. My grandparents had a farm there back then . My grandfather was Polish/ Ukrainian it does my heart good to see these videos . It reminds me of the summers we would visit my great grandparents who lived on the Canadian Prarie
My Dad was the CO of Camp Dundurn 1969-1971. I was 6 when we left. Cool to see Dundurn some day I’ll go back for a look. I will definitely check out Big Murr’s
Great to see tours of rural Sask. The short & welcoming elevator in Kenaston (your pronounceantion was slightly off, but nobodys going to bother you too much about it.), was tore down shortly after this video was shot. It was used, as pointed out by your dad for the farms' grain storage and as a seed cleaning plant.
Really well done. I love when you highlight the small towns of Saskatchewan.
Gosh. Getting a little weepy as I watch this remembering my boyhood in SK.
Love your Dad’s farmer tan. 😀
I lived about 3 miles east of Dundurn on a colony, in the late 60s n middle 70 s till I married away , but still have relatives there , to me it still feels like home ❤
So much to actually see. I love it. Thank you !!
Wow, I love Canada so much ❤
A few good places to visit is the great sand dunes south of leader. Also Castle butte and ogema which is south of rouleau. Claybank is near that too
My favourite little town in Sask is Lumsden just north of Regina. Nice town with a river running through it.
Another beautiful portraya of Canada! The music you had here was just perfect too like some of your other Canadian vids! Felt like I was watching scenes from a full feature movie :). Usually I think of mountains as more scenic, but you really captured the beauty of the prairie here. Best part of my day 🙂!

This is what they mean byWide open plains - like the music and tour
I have lived in small towns since my father passed away. I feel relieved and happy I don’t have to think that I miss my beloved parents and begin shedding tears again over a past I can’t bring back. So I can relate to your growing up in small town Saskatchewan. The best thing about small town life is knowing nothing bad happens living in it and I have no regrets about where I’ve spent a good part of my life. Your video conveys a pastoral delight that’s the opposite of the reality of our world. Its like a dream you never want to wake up from.
Spent all my time in the area between Edmonton, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and Melfort, so this is a trip into very mysterious, exotic locations!
Just discovered you and this channel. Love your content on Canada. Haven't watched any non-Canada content yet. Love how close you are to your parents. Cheers.
This video increases to me the sensation that Canada, being such a giant country in size, is so scarcely populated. I imagine what those roads look like in the winter seeing white snow until the eyes can see.

Nice video. It gives us a glimpse of how a rural part of Canada and its small towns look like. The easy going way as you present combines with the atmosphere existent in the places shown.
Lived in P.A.,Allan,used to travel every weekend to somewhere different, fished and flew round Central Saskatchewan lakes,East End,Watson, pleasant dale and many more, loved them all especially the people
missing you Alina followed you Vlogs 26 country already .Thanks for take me to see so many different thing around the worlds Good luck.
You were not kidding when you said that you like to go off the beaten path!! Actually, I personally love these video's of small town living just as much as the big city excitement. There is so much of this world that people miss and get the wrong impression of all the different sides of living in the world. I know that you will cover them all, and always make the trip the most interesting. Loved the music you used here, and for sharing what you saw through your eyes. Continue being safe, and enjoy every minute of your time in Canada !! Cheers!!! ❤😊

Absolutely loved this video showing the small towns . Your Dad is a real star .
Altough I live in a big town, I enjoy your road trips to small towns with your dad. There is that sense of tranquility present in small towns. Good for a short holiday.
Beautiful country side blog. Alina, your dad is very gentleman. He is very humble and camera shy.
You do a great overview of all your travels. Have only travelled through Saskatchewan on the train long ago so really good to get an better idea of the place. Love that you go exploring with your Dad. Fantastic.
you learn something every day...shit flowers...lol....made my day ..cool father !!!!
I love Corner Gas. Having grown up in small town Idaho, I saw so many parallels in the humor and ways of thinking. Anyway, enjoyable adventure, as usual.

The towns in Saskatchewan resemble the towns in other parts of Canada 👍 I also love how the landscape shifts from a mix of prairie and forest in the first two towns to almost complete steppe as you go further south, a beautiful natural feature that continues across the border all the way to Western Texas. Thanks for the tours.
Our country is awesome and your dad is a straight up sort of guy. I'd like to have a beer with him one of these days. Cheers from The Rock !!!👍
Small town Saskatchewan is the heart of the country. Wonderful video Alina

What a lovely daughter to have, you are a lucky man!
Did several road trips Edmonton - Saskatoon in the period 1984-87
Appreciate the beauty of the vastness of the prairie. Its a beauty of a special kind. Drove through in 89 .
Lovely as always. I love road trips and I am trying to convince my daughter to do one with me again.
I love small towns - thank you for taking us through them. It’s great to see your dad in the video. Love that region you are in and definitely like to visit that portion of providence. Alina my again your videos are great.

Watching from Edmonton after drove from Saskatoon. Already homesick lol😊
Alina. I believe the town is Rolieu and if so my late mom was born in what they would pronounce Rolo. Again just a guess as she left in 1927 for Chilliwack BC. Thanks again for your videos. Cheers. Doug

Loved the video. The countryside in North America with all these peaceful small towns, the grain elevators, long freight trains and of course the tractors 🚜 it's great. Love to be there every time I can.
13:57 love the train footage! and the prairie footage.
Always love for you both!
It's interesting watching this video from a year ago. I was hoping to see what Rouleau looked like now, since we were there in 2007 and the set was still there. (It is available on google maps) Although we took pictures, I don't think we have any video from back then. It is my understanding the set was destroyed by fire and that is the reason it was removed. We do have various video on our channel during our trips in Saskatchewan. I am an original 1960's Saskatchewan farm boy from the Carrot River area. Love your videos.
Hello from Rio ( Brazil). Congratulations for your videos! I love Canada and thank to you I can see How is beauty Canada's countryside.
Alina and her dad are awesome. Great video. Dundurn reminds me of beautiful Kansas full of cornfields and no mountains but so beautiful in its own way. Many blessings to you both.

My Dad grew up in Arcola, Sask., and we went there every summer (from Alberta) to visit my grandparents. This video brought back so many memories of driving through SK, those small towns and flat prairies. You've taught me almost everything I know about an ever-growing list of places around the world. With Saskatchewan there is no "almost": every town I can name is because of a video on your channel. And every sitcom :) The skies are immensely beautiful, both in good weather and bad...

You captured "it".......the feel of Saskatchewan. Saskatoon will always be my home.....TNX
Somehow I am catching up watching but another great video Alina. The weather can be so unpredictable everywhere.
That war memorial in Kenaston shows 6 names. In my English village (pop 450 since the 1100s and not changed much) the cenotaph shows 14 names. Likely a similar proportion of the young men. I took an interest as my Dad fought with the Canadian division in Normandy
Saskatchewan summer weather is so unpredictable. Sunny to stormy weather out of nowhere 😵💫
Thanks for the video and for reminding me of that great show.
Thanks for sharing this video Miss Alina.Cool 👌 small but very peaceful town (Dundurn) regards to your Dad.👋Kenanston wow only 300's people living there...love the scenic view of canola farm.
Just wonderful! Road trips are my passion and this awesome video is amazing and shows the endless panoramas of Canada and this small town is truly nice. Also here in Italy people are leaving big countries for smaller little towns Thank you for sharing this beautiful video with your lovely dad.

Hi Alina and dad! Thanks for taking us along on your travels! Fun! The town where Corner Gas was filmed is pronounced ROW-LOW. I wasn't aware that the gas station and Ruby had been removed! That's too bad because it certainly was a great tourist stop!! I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to following you and dad on more travels!!
When you drive through the small towns of Saskatchewan. They all have a certain charm to them. it all goes back to that notion that if you live in one. Everybody knows your name. Hi Alina I really enjoyed watching your new videos on Western Canada. I am going on my first trip ever to Vancouver in couple of weeks! ..In fact I think your videos on Canada and Europe is your best work. Sask. seems like really nice to visit, I always get comments from my friends here in Toronto, "Oh Saskatchewan there's nothing to see!" well I am certainly going to tell them to watch Alina Mcleod's videos on KZread! And your Dad seems really cool, very good comedy relief! 👍🏻 p..s I am writing this on Sept 5, day after the terrible tragedy in Sask. I hope your Dad and everyone in Sask. is doing ok from fellow Canadian in Toronto. 😥 ~ Melissa from Toronto

Rouleau is pronounced row low. The hotel and bar used in corner gas is there still. The gas station and police station are gone. A vast majority of the interior shots for the show were shot at the studio in regina.
Stop making me miss Saskatchewan!!! I love your videos ❤
Hi Alina! I'm enjoying the small-town scenic road trip from Saskatoon to Regina with you and your dad! In the day did not frequently travel to Regina. But several times we did venture out to Mount Blackstrap on the outskirts of Dundern. Mount Blackstrap is/was one of world's few artificial mountains (the 'pimple on the Prairie'), originally created as a ski hill for the Canada Winter Games. It's nice to see the wide-open Prairie sky and landscape once again!

Alina, I know that history often gets buried in time, but growing up in Saskatoon, whenever people mentioned Dundurn, they mentioned how many men and women were trained there at the Dundurn military base for WWII. I wonder if there are any plaques or commemorative displays showing the strength of the people that trained there to be sent off overseas to fight and fly planes.

Thank you so much Alina McLeod.
I always enjoy tagging along with you Alina. I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and moved to Alberta when I was 18 - 64 years ago. I live in Calgary with a population of 1.4 Million; about 400,000 more than the Province of Saskatchewan. SK definitely has a charm all of its own - a good lot of that because of the great people that call it home.
@AlinaMcleod

Definitely a very special place
Sk City is very nice, i like this place and your travel.
The town is pronounced a rolo. I used to go there quite often when I delivered pop. I was actually delivering to the fuel station there when 9/11 happened. Never went there after or when Corner Gas was being filmed though. I have a soft spot for that part of the world but don't think I can leave the mountains. If you do another SK vid then there is always Manitou Lake which is close to Saskatoon, a lake with a higher salt and mineral content than the dead sea. There's also the big muddy area in southern SK with the giant metropolitan areas of Willow Bunch and Big Beaver. There's some pretty decent scenery, some really impressive first nation historical spots, and a few caves. Willow Bunch has a Farm Fest music festival which if you're a bit of a burnt out hippy is awesome. Then out west is the Grasslands National Park, Cypress Hills, and East End where the largest Trex in the world was found. The only issues down there are the horrible roads.
Hello beautiful young lady..welcome to Regina..awesome father
