The mental strength needed to miss the first 6 months of your childs life and do Selection is why these guys are elite
My late uncle was a very quiet, mild mannered and intelligent man that never spoke much if at all about his service due to being a RC from N Ireland but Borneo was mentioned once or twice. No picnic apparently. Rest easy Uncle Eddie, I know you more than earned your place in Valhalla.
What a guy ! Totally blanks a comrade with doubts because it's all about ME ME ME and ME. No it isn't and it never was. Some of the best people who were lagging were spurred on by people they'd hardly met. They went on to become some of the finest troops on the planet.
This bloke is a top soldier
I know 2 guys who failed tge jungle phase, one ( i was told) got bitten by a snake , not sure if true. The other one failed something but they kept him because he was a natural in the jungle so he probably didn't fail anything but got a slight injury. Never saw him again so i think he eventually passed as did the guy who told me as they were mates.

Seems incredibly harsh to fail someone for getting bitten by a snake... in the jungle

You could fail if you had open ulcers in the jungle or bites that became infectious.

The fatality i think was the chap that Billy Billingham looked up to.Possibly?
It does. All that was said makes sense.
This man is in breach of SF disclosure policy as well as the Official Secrets Act, anyone giving him publicity is "aiding & abetting" a crime as well as potentially risking lives of serving personnel.

@@kevinadamson5768 Then, with respect, don't comment. He is currently under investigation (for the second time).
