    Have to be honest: I hadn't heard much about Sark until I read an article on +BBC News concerning the Islands power crisis this morning...And after seeing this video, my first ever car-free destination has just been added to my "To visit" list! :-) The power crisis is a concerning thing though, as is the cost you get charged for electricity (66p/0,80€ per kWh!). I have a number of ideas in mind for experimental renewables. Could that be of any help? :-) Finally - Odd question: I cycle everywhere as a rule, but I've become so used to the pace of mainland roads that 40km/h is my usual riding speed and I often achieve it without even realising. Does Sark have and apply official speed limits to its trails? Many thanks for the video! :-)

    You would be most welcome to visit Sark and share your ideas. I'm not sure you'd want to travel so fast over here on your bicycle though - we don't have speed limits for bikes but we do have some fairly bumpy bits of lane. And you'd want to slow down to enjoy the scenery!

    I remember the tractor waiting for the boat passengers to take them to the top of the island and the wonderful ride in the horse drawn cart. It is not easy to walk on the rough lanes full of pebbles.

    Heaven, and how people should live in every aspect, not in the mess we live on across the world led by corrupt useless governments. The world is in one big mess and until normal folk wake the he'll up it'll only get worse. Sark is a beacon of hope and so are it's people.

  • @mermaidone1

    @mermaidone1

    Yes, getting a good view of the sky here relies on the weather being kind. At the moment we have clear skies and the view of the stars and Milky Way is amazing. Keep an eye on the weather and when you see no moon and no clouds then come on over. You won't be disappointed.

    Hi Stephen, we have no marina but do have two lovely bays with mooring buoys for visitors (which are free but a donation towards their upkeep is always welcome) and there are areas for anchoring too. At the moment the island is closed to visitors but we're all really hoping we can open up later this summer, if not we'll look forward to seeing you here next year. Visit the Sark website for more information at www.sark.co.uk

    what a beautiful island, I understand there are no corporations there? so how do they raise revenue?

  • @mermaidone1

    @mermaidone1

    8 жыл бұрын

    We do have businesses here although most people are self employed in various ways. There is a small annual personal and property tax and revenue is also raised on impot on cigarettes and alcohol as well as a landing tax. It's enough to run our small island but we all have to cover our own health insurance and make provisions for later life.

  • @thecapitalist1502

  • @mermaidone1

    Yes, one pound from the price of every ferry ticket to and from Sark goes towards running the island. You would be made most welcome if you decided to visit. You need to get to Guernsey, our nearest island with an airport. There are flights there from London, Southampton, Manchester and other airports in the UK. From Guernsey it is a 50 minute ferry journey to Sark. I hope you can make it.
