    I got to hand it to Disney for their handling of the Eternals, they somehow made a movie that managed to appeal to nobody besides r/Marvel users, like the premise is too vague to hook the average movie goer, it’s still too generic for fans of cinema, it’s been too “MCU-ified” to appeal to the few fans of the OG Jack Kirby comic, and it’s just too stupid to appeal to any of the fans of the Neil Gaiman run

    speaking of crying babies ruining movies, at the cinema I work for we actually have Parent & Baby screenings specifically for parents with babies or very young children can attend. The lights aren't turned down all the way, the volume is slightly lower, all so parents who are stuck with their kids can still see some of the latest releases without disturbing regular film goers. We do allow non-parents in too, though they are warned that there will be babies present, so they can't complain about any crying or parents cooing.

    My "favourite" theatre experience is when my friend and I went to see a 10 PM showing of Nocturnal Animals and some lady brought her toddler. To a very adult, rape-revenge movie. My parents would've had me in bed by 7 at that age, let alone would've never brought me to something like that. Anyways the kid wasn't really paying attention to the movie (of course) so he was talking out loud and playing on an iPad. And eventually the only other guy in the theatre finally stood up and just said "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" Not even "please tell your kid to be quiet." It was hilarious. So they walked out and 15 minutes later came back with the staff and then THAT GUY left because he figured he was getting kicked out. When really the staff wanted to hear all sides of the story so my friend and I got free passes to another movie. Still, I cannot fathom why you would bring your toddler to that movie, at such a late show for that matter. I think about that at least once a week.

  • @floraposteschild4184

    @floraposteschild4184

    Anybody who brings a toddler to a movie for non-toddlers is automatically in the wrong, so there's no need to hear both sides. If I had a theatre, they'd either be banned, or there'd be a glassed in "crying room" where small children and their parents could sit. My local theatre had one, and it was very popular.

    I don't know much about the Eternals in their original comic form and saw the YMS review instead of the movie itself, but I have to agree with other commenters saying it might have worked as a mini series. Have an ensemble premiere and finale. In between, focus on one character an episode. Establish an arc that concludes in the finale and lets them solve the major crisis ahead. From what I know, it seems the Eternals live in secret for most of human history not doing much superheroing. You could have each episode set in a different era of mankind, and establish all kinds of plots. You could show them becoming demoralized with humans over time by war and crime, but become inspired by the modern superheroes to actually step forward. Maybe seeing a normal human, like Iron Man, save the universe could motivate these godlike beings to become proactive. There could be all sorts of fun scenarios to put as settings. Not just historical ones. I think a great one would be when Asgardians first visit Earth and inspire Norse mythology. Maybe have a young Thor and Loki make a cameo and we can see them as their more stilted, serious selves. An Eternal may feel conflicted by living in the shadows, when other superpowered beings show up and are hailed as gods, but they learn that what they do is more noble. You could sprinkle in all sorts of MCU Easter Eggs, like someone meeting the Ancient One when she is much younger and forming her mystic order or have a run-in with Yondu and his crew in the 1980s when they're looking for StarLord. Or have Ego visiting in the 70s when he fathers Star Lord. Maybe show a conflict that results in Wakanda becoming isolationist and becoming a technological superpower in secret. The show would be a natural fit for showing the history of the MCU.

    Since one of the questions is about ruined movie experiences, i would like to share mine: Christmas day Uncut Gems, I happened to be sitting next to the one guy that was laughing the whole time. He eventually dug his elbows ito the arm, I got even more mad, so for the first time ever i retalitated and dug back into him, and then he looked at me and intentionally elowed me, I said "You hit me first: and then he said "hm?" like he was ready to hit me. I have barely in an AMC since, prefering to stick with art house theatres.

    10:33 this is the time when superhero films (now it's nothing new and great) were all the same quality, less motivation, stock characters, and just same dialouge that weren't you expected to have a great superhero film (right after the pandemic and right after when Endgame gone too far without much hype). Honestly I'm too old for this and since this movie came out, a lot of people either love or hate it because it was sucess from the box office so "Eternals" it's not spectacular to see and felt sorry for Chloé Zhao (who won the academy award winning, Nomadland) which couldn't make it groundbreaking ever.

    I actually think Black Widow is a far worse movie than Eternals. I even somewhat enjoyed Eternals and its turn of pace when compared to other Marvel films. Still not good, but I was never bored for sure Black Widow, beyond some fun charactee moments, was an absolute shambles. Totally betrayed her character and never felt like a necessary beyond introducing other characters.

    Antichrist's characters in my opinion represent the halves of the self. the feminine and masculine, yin and yang, or apollonion and thonian (sky cult/earth cult). I think it is a metaphor for the inner conflict brought about by grief. It sort of feels like the film representation of trauma within his depression trilogy.

    Regardless of his comment about millennials, The Last Duel was a great film. I can understand someone being hurt and then going off the rails because of its failure. Still, it's definitely the marketing team that is to blame here. Dune was an expensive theatrical release and it was successful and I'm pretty sure most of the audience were millennials.
