    I get his frustration. Like, is the greatest propaganda machine ever invented not to be criticised 80%of the times, just because "it's a fun movie"? You want to be dramatic? Stick to logic. Since when is logic a useless thing to enjoy cinema? Movies are.supposed to bring critical thinking among other things, otherwise it's just a recount of who enjoyed what to what amount?

    Yo I wouldn’t call it laziness. Yes, it is illogical. However, the logic of the time travel concept was sacrificed for enhancing the emotional tone and creating the best possible moment for the fans. It’s not perfect because of this but it’s certainly not ineffective

  • @aden6971

    The Kid Ok. For example, do you not think the Captain America scene would have been equally as impactful and even more logical had Captain America just popped onto the platform that was like 5 feet away as an old man? He still lives out his days, and he’s aged quite a bit. He still give Sam the shield and he goes and sits on the bench.

    I agree, although it doesn't help that Infinity War works really well as its own movie as well. Many of the character moments are a bit confusing, but the whole movie is focused on Thanos, who is pretty much a brand new character now, so we can follow along with the story fine if the main character is written well. I still don't think it's fair criticism to say Endgame doesn't work on its own though. It never tried to be.

    I’m not onboard with his logic of the timeline I think he’s definitely wrong on how he’s interpreting it. The film doesn’t work for differing reasons than he gave but does work within the points and rules they do give in the film. The film is implying that Cap doesn’t influence anything when he goes back into the past while obviously this is impossible, it does follow the rules that if you simply “ninja” your way through things and drop them back off without any influence nothing changes. The problem is that is just impossible not that it breaks its own rules. I think this is where Adum has been a little bit overwhelmed with understanding how these (admittedly nonsensical rules) work. They work in this world for the emotional sense but it’s just impossible to not influence a chain of events in some way. For a similar logic, Captain America will influence the initial conditions in the timelines (butterfly effect) by just dropping them off.

Even seeing Thor yelling at a kid online, unproductively hurling abuse at someone smaller than him, really works effectively. The only difference between a lot of the scenes in Ragnarok where Thor is humiliated and in Endgame where he is humiliated is that now Thor has lost any hope of winning. It's a flawed movie and it does feel like a series finale but it's extremely satisfying to watch as a fan of the characters and if you can forgive some of the time travel logic Also Thor is still a dynamic character in the movie. He is clearly broken and he's been broken for 5 years and is trying to be merry, drunk and forget what he's been through. You can see he's just a shadow of his former self who just wants to do something right (when he wants to probably die by snapping everyone back) after screwing up in infinity war.

  • @Guitarmonade

    @Guitarmonade

    I agree. He also "got revenge" by finally killing Thanos, but it was an empty victory since Thanos already destroyed the stones. They didn't spell it out with exposition (thank god), but he was unable to reconcile his failure with the fact that there was no way to redeem himself or make things better. He basically murdered an already half-dead, complacent villain who had accomplished his ultimate task. Killing Thanos basically didn't fix or change anything - it didn't even make Thor feel better. The film shows a plethora of ways that each surviving hero deals with failure and loss. Some chose to develop and work on themselves, some wanted to help others, some got buried in work to distract themselves and stay busy, and some (e.g. Thor) chose a destructive path; in this case, it was one of alcoholism and self loathing, while avoiding thinking about it or dealing with it ("We don't say that name"). All these are realistic, human reactions. It was interesting for them to explore that for the beginning of the film with each member of the team choosing a different path.

    @@MrZackavelli I know, but 1.) Just because someone loses the will to live doesn't mean they're going to die from that and 2.) This kind of thing should have affected her in the long term. Let's say she gave birth to Luke and Leia, and she was still alive and helping Bail and his wife raise Leia in their household. But when Leia is 5 or 6, Padme gets sick from disease, let's say. And the doctors can't save her because her immune system isn't fighting off the disease as it should. Bail then finds out that her depression (from Anakin turning evil, Luke being separated from her and Leia, and Padme believing Anakin to be dead) got the better of her and she eventually died from that. That would have been more believable in my eyes. Depression doesn't kill you overnight. It takes years for it to take its toll on you.

    I get what Adam is trying to say but I think he's not articulating the main point: if Captain America went back in time to his own timeline and waited to be an old man, history would have been changed on a fundamental level as Captain America would not have been there to play a part in the Infinity War which would not have allowed him to then go back in time to return the stones. HOWEVER, I also feel like Ralph is also not articulating that because Captain America was frozen in the 40s, and it appears that the point where he went back to start his life with Peggy was after he was frozen, there is no paradox because there would then be two versions of himself in the timeline - one that is frozen until 2012 or whatever, and one who lied low and lived his life with Peggy. There are probably some other quirks to the story but they can probably be smoothed out. So basically, either both of them are right, or neither of them are right, or maybe my brain is just melting. Whatever.

  • @za-ir5ni
    @za-ir5ni5 жыл бұрын

    Almost all of Adam's examples of contrivances or problems with the time travel are easily explained - Nebula didn't just stay, she went to go warn Hawkeye and Black Widow about Thanos knowing then she was captured - Thanos and his team reverse engineered the Pym Particles - Steve didn't stay in the past. He lived his life while in that timeline until a point after meeting them on the bench and went to that time. Remember Steve and Tony went back to the 70s after already being in 2012. Also notice that Steve took 4 vials of Pym Particles instead of the 2 they needed - Steve didn't need to go through 4 timelines back and forth to take back the stones. Just one round trip.

    A problem for me (and, granted, I am not really a Marvel fan) was how the theme of "letting go of the past" didn't mesh very well with the plot. I was intrigued and excited at the beginning as the movie set up that theme, presenting the Avengers dealing with failure, and its consequences, for basically the first time. But in the end, all the "letting go" is thrown away as they get back (nearly) everything they lost. The movie seems to suggest that clinging to the past, beyond reason, is the RIGHT thing to do (contrary to what it explicitly sets up at the beginning). Anyway, to me, I couldn't help but feel like most of the choices made had an ulterior motive rather than being guided naturally by the course of the story.
