Mike Smith did not even push Justify to his limits an any of the races according to him still was a baby in reality to bad money in breeding got in the way him racing more times I believe would have finished undefeated

Was able to see Justify and American Pharoah last year at Ashford Stud. They both have that look about them. They walk out and you can tell how good they are/were.

a great race hosted by the best voice in horse racing history....

1 of the best races, of many, I have had the privilege 2 witness.... Very impressed w/both Justify & Bolt d'Oro!!! Big fan of them both!!! I was hoping they would go 1 - 2 like that & that was my pick as well!!!

Small field but he did show an extra gear down the stretch. Kentucky Derby is a great race to bet. Usually have big payouts.

absolutely flawless ride. Smith let him open up a little after the 1/4pole. then got Justify to relax(thats what makes Smith so good. if he can get the horse to relax n breath he's gonna win) Justify looked really really impressive there

Mike Smith intentionally went wide at the top of the stretch floating Bolt d'Oro wide with him. Mike wanted no repeat of the Mckinzie dq moment. Brilliant ride Mike! Justify is my pick to win the derby.

Smith is #1 rider in the US

Will be favorite for the derby, only problem is their Will be 19 other horses, and he won't be allowed to crawl on the front end and probably won't have the lead. Will be tested but will be tough to play against because he's trained by Baffert

looking back on this today, June 12, 2018, there's no doubt that with his win in the SA Derby, the way he disposed of bolt d' oro ( who was still in form on that day ).....Justify stamped himself as the one to beat for the KY Derby and no one in their right minds should have paid the naysayers any notice....and there were naysayers...prominent analysts......grr.

Romp 8 lengths 1m21s and change That is where he got the fame of being the best colt in training in the US. Then he wins SAD in a controlled GALLOP. You'll be surprised in the KD

What an easy win in the derby by Justify. Mike was on cruise control and the horse never stopped running. Congratulations to Bob Baffert and Mike Smith. On to the Preakness!!!

I don’t agree with you, but this was a fun video. The footage we do have of MOW shows him winning far in front of the field and yet, he just looks like he’s out on an easy Sunday canter through the park. I think his competitive nature would have kicked into overdrive and he would have “burst his heart” before allowing himself to lose to Secretariat. Anyway, it’s good fun to speculate.

Very impressive. He looks like a nice, relaxed individual too. It is exciting to think of Justify and Mendelssohn running against each other. Let us all enjoy them.

Not exactly sure how the track was playing but Justify got away with much slower fractions than he will probably see in the Derby. He doesn't need the lead to win but he will probably need to run better in the Derby than he did here. I have a strong feeling the extra 1/8th is going to cause this horse problems, especially when he will have to run faster early on in the Derby. Really good performance though, and I will be rooting hard for Justify to win the Derby.

Hell no... Horses don't end up in the kill pens from the tracks. They end up in kill pens through second hand owners and horses at this level? Just no.

Mike Smith won this race when they turned for home , take a look how he makes Castellanos swing out wide and then Castellanos decide to get the rail but after you swing out like that and then try to come in again that’s too much for Bolt D Oro . Even though he battled and at one point he looked like he was gonna make it close the last 100 yards that move Mike put on em had a lot to do.

Just like when Conquistador Cielo won the Belmont and was syndicated for $36 million, while his sire, Mr. Prospect, saw his stud fee raised from $7,500.00 to $50,000.00 because prior to the 1982 Belmont, it was thought that Mr. Prospector's offspring couldn't run twelve furlongs that fast, or do so on a wet track. The advent of Lasix also helped a lot, since the Mr. Prospector is not always the soundest. The cross to Ghostzapper is very revealing here. This is the grandson of the ohrse who romped in the 2004 BC Clasisic over Roses in May, who romped in the 2005 Dubai World Cup. Ghostzpper once closed 6.5 lengths on a speed-favoring Saratoga track in a sprint stakes (almost cost me the winner, so he scared the daylights out of me). I said then and there he'd never lose another race, and he didn't. Most dominant horse of the modern era.

With only the Arkansas Derby next Saturday, time seems to be running out to stake a claim for the Kentucky Derby. I wonder what you guys in America think of the Derby picture, and do you think Mendelssohn can break Europe's duck in the Run For The Roses?

yes fractions were slow but the finish was better than the blue grass and good magic. ..marginally slower than vino but it's only his third start.

Wrong. Fractions were swift. Track was deep. Horse took off on Smith early as he said after the race and still powered away with ease late. This is a freak.

not so much about timings and races but more about coming from nowhere to be Derby favourite.I can see him winning the Derby and Preakness and losing the Belmont.He's the "talking" horse right now but that's horse racing,win while you're hot because its a long season.

Johnny DjJediNite yeah really! Santa Anitas track has been playing very slow for the padt month, this is why the slow splits, all tracks the dirt surface will vary. I saw on another you tube posting that JUSTIFY speed beyer was 110 for this race! No other three year old in the nation can claim that! Undeafeted and still untested! Bring on the Derby!

Wesley Threadgill he is a nice horse, Justified is amazing to be so big to me. Baffert is controversial so it could be some training stuff I would not put it past him.. I'd say Justified was going to win Belmont but not with that limp he had. They'll run him regardless I bet. This race was amazing in that in all that mud no horse went lame! Good luck :)

Jlina A my favorite horse is still bolt doro he's the best completion justify had had disappointed that his trainers pulled him out of the preakness and Belmont really sucks ,,he may have won the Belmont ,,he's still fast and my fav,he will run the same day I believe in a different race ,,

Still with Bolt, he ran a great second

Start to finish attempt.

Looks like a derby winner to me, Mike Smith just hand ride him to the finish line. He didn’t even used the whip, there’s so much room for improvement.

Justify is a nice colt, no doubt, but the lack of foundation, much more pace in the Ky. Derby, and his pedigree will catch up with him going 1 1/4 miles. I'll get a better price on Bolt d'Oro now and by Medaglia d'Oro he has a better pedigree for the Derby distance.

Wire to wire nobody to put pressure the Kentucky derby it’s going to be a different race Bolt’d ore my bet

He drifts out a tad turning for home and he doesn't switch leads until almost the 8th pole. If Big Money Mike can correct those errors, Justify will win the Kentucky Derby.

Ok im on the Justify bandwagon now, ,after watching this ogver a few times, Justify wasn't even trying that hard in this race, and he be ready to peak in the KD.

No just beat by a super horse in Justify

Justify would lose to secretariat by 25 lengths going a mile and quarter, not to mention a mile and half.

Mike Smith will not be able to get away with 24 and 48 sec. fractions in Kentucky on first Saturday in May. Mendelssohn will leave this horse in the dust.I also didn't like how Mike Smith took the horse wide around the turn,and then all the way back to the rail ,in front of Javier Castellano.

Justify will not win the Kentucky Derby.There are two major factors that can easily affect his chances : the big field that he never experienced and the fact that he won't be able to dictate the race with easy fractions. Bolt d' Oro looks like the one to bounce back from his last race. No matter how you look at it, he is the established class here.
