Had a marantz 4ch setup in the 70's but was .....8-track. Was able to find ELP and Focus and some others. Friends came from all over to hear that in a large bedroom where my father put up large speaker shelves and two speakers were large Lafayette monsters and the other two forgot what they were. Actually sounded really good. Also converted the closet to a large 3 dimensional layer deep 4 channel color organ. great times. Great video :()

Have you ever heard of coral speakers? They are from japan. I think they were produced around 1978 up till the mid 80s if I'm not mistaken. I have a pair of them that came with this reciever. They sound amazing with this receiver

One more question , can I use the receiver as 2 channel only - using only 2 SPEAKERS instead of four , basically - Left and Right speakers ? I've read they have to be of at least - minimum impedance 8 or else they'll blow or the receiver would go bad too. What's your opinion on that , I really don't want to use it as four speaker receiver , I know it sounds dull and strange for someone who is restoring QUAD receiver. Please chime in ??

2:37 what's the deal with switching channels? I have the Sansui 881 and have been switching the channels while it's on. The 881 has 3 outputs (A, B, C) plus 2 groups (A+B & A+C). How is different a quadrophonic amplifier from a two channel? Is the recording done in 4 channels?

Switching a quad from 4ch to 2ch is different than changing speaker output A/B/C. Most quads are using 4 separate amplifier sections meaning Switching from 2 to 4 or 4 to 2 ch. is bridging and unabridging the amplifier sections which is different than simply rerouting the amplifier output to different terminals (a/b/c). So in 2ch the amp is bridging which is why a quad has more wpc in 2ch than wpc while in 4ch. It is the bridging and unbridging of the amp boards that makes it recommended to do when powered off. I hope that answers your question.

Is it worth doing the full recap on my QRX- 9001 ? Most place go from $ 1,400 - $ 1,600 ... I know this model has the most components than any other receiver but damn ... so steep to fix ... what's your opinion guys ?

I recaped mine. It took me a month to do so. The problem was when I got it. It had so much static no matter what I did to clean the knobs and buttons it continued to have that horrible static. I found out that over the years of use the solder joint become brittle and crack do to heating and cooling over the years so I took the time and resoldered every solder joint and she works good as new

Doesn’t one need actual LP vinyl records with the right encoding to take advantage of the QS, SQ, and CD4 decoders? And don’t you need a special phono cartridge for Quad records? And there are no external Digital Dolby or DTS boxes you can plug in-line with the 4 preamplifiers to make the receiver compatible with the modern day surround channels on movies, correct? But you can possibly find discrete reel-to reel tape recordings and maybe quad-8-tracks. And if we’re correct Sansui were the only guys with QS decoding in their receivers. Right? And the synthesizer electronics is not true custom quadraphonics with all the cool panning which was done in the studio between front and back, left and right. Moody Blues in Quad 8 Track in the car was so cool 😎.

You do not need to use quad source recordings. You plug stereo into the Aux and the QRX synthesizer engineering distributes the signal into quad. The Dolby is top of the line noise reduction for its time and can be used for records or tapes if you choose to remove some of the hiss. QS is the Sansui proprietary method and is superior to SQ. All of these units need to have a very specific restoration done to work optimally. I stream Tidal high quality lossless into a Roon powered Micro Sonore Rendu via ethernet from the router. USB from the Rendu into Schiit Bifrost Uber with upgrades. Stereo out of the DAC into the QRX. Incredible!
