*Most of the pots of that era were Murata units. Sealed green cubes wave-soldered to PCB. However Caig Labs' DeOxit D5 spray is worth a try first. After that it gets quickly expensive. 9000DBs and 909DBs are keepers and in demand when on offer. Cheers!*

I recently bought an SX-1980 and sold it a week later. Muddy low-end and overall, not a very transparent, high-quality sound. It looks impressive but it's a bit overrated amongst vintage gear. The best brands from this era are: Yamaha, Sansui and Kenwood. And just as a point of History the extremely talented designers from Kenwood went on to form Accuphase which went on to become some (and still are) some of the best gear avail at any price.

I saw a g22000 or g33000 back in 2006 at a flea market. Missed out on it..asked the guy how much he sold it for as it was still on the trailer , he said 35 dollars. I bought a nak dragon at same market for 10 bucks a year later. That market has been gone for 12 years , there is a underground water drainage or reservoir facility or something there now . Bummer dude.

@@blackrifle6736 So it was never really a receiver since the tuner/preamp were separate because a receiver integrates the power amp, preamp and tuner. I guess the electronics engineers at Sansui couldn't figure out how to fit it all into one unit, yet the guys at Technics, Pioneer, Marantz, etc...all figured it out

@@carewser *"Receiver" is a fluid definition, so depends who you ask. All companies assign their design and engineering staffs objectives based on company goals, values and aspirations. These were intended to be Sansui's limited production halo products. My guess is Sansui intelligence looked at what was coming to market, evaluated internal thermals and decided to go this cost-no-object route. In my opinion, although pushing the definition envelope a bit, the wide ribbon cable qualifies it as a receiver. So be it. Cheers!*

@@blackrifle6736 Wow, you're quite the bafflegabber so you should probably get into politics. A stereo receiver is not a "fluid definition" (whatever that means), and it doesn't depend on who I ask, receivers integrate the power amp, preamp and tuner and I know this because i've owned a few of them over the years. The weirdest thing about Sansui separating them was, there were other companies that didn't separate them yet actually had even more powerful amplifiers so it's weird that Sansui separated them

Simple, Jazz and Classical provide the best overall sound quality compared to rock which is usually compressed. Wouldn't mind hearing some Floyd tho :)

Because they want to test the dynamic range, clarity of the notes, and the punch. Jazz and Classical are typically recorded with much greater dynamic range than rock music. I've always liked rock music, but I wasn't a fan of jazz until I heard it on a good stereo.
