Yeah, this year my birthday videos wasn't a collab or some special project, I made a video for my slef (the arrogance of it I know 😂)
But actually, I wanted to make something "special" for my birthday and edit a video I spent years wanting to finish. So, how did I decide to celebrate? Finishing a video about one of my favorite characters ever.
I started this project back in 2019 with another song, back when I didn't even have a KZread channel, but I truly wanted to make something to celebrate my brave queen in the north.
I started watching Game of Thrones when it first aired, almost 10 years ago, and I always had a soft spot for Sansa and what she represents.
Of course, the final seasons fucked up her character a little bit, and I actually dropped the show during season 5 for how angry I was for her storyline, but still, she remains my fave in the show (and in the books as well, although I only read the first one and then only her chapters and some others).
Maybe it was my dedication to liking female characters that are hated by most of the fandom (especially young girls), or maybe it was the way her character was written, but sansa always had a very special place in my heart.
She took so much shit from the fandom that despised a privileged and young girl (of eleven years old) for acting as a privileged and young girl... which is, sadly, exactly how young women are still perceived by society today.
She was exactly what I would be in Game of Thrones, a normal, polite girl with no fighting skills except her brain and her courtesy, and god, how refreshing this is!
Nowadays, there is this obsession with creating female characters that have to sacrifice their femininity and kindness to be powerful, to kick-ass, and get their happy ending, which most of the time is associated with something loveless and lonely. And while I think that maybe once these types of characters were supposed to be feminists and originals, they truly aren't.
Girls and women can be smart AND pretty, fighters and dancers; they can cry and kick asses; they can be loving and unforgiving. They don't have to choose, they should commit mistakes and not be stoned for them. People should just realize that girls and women are human beings too.
And that was exactly what Sansa was for me. A sweet, innocent girl who never wanted to play the game of thrones because she knew how much it would take away from her (her home, her father, her freedom, her mother, her brothers, etc.), who, despite what everyone was saying, fought in her own ways and survived the unimaginable.
She didn't have dragons, swords, armies or allies.
She had only herself. Her wit and her politeness. She had an incredible growth and character development, going from a naive and spoiled young girl who wanted to live in a fairy tale, as her parents and septa thought her all her life, to a strong woman defending her home, her family and her roots.
It was so fascinating to watch her become more powerful and strategic. She was one of the strongest characters in the show: she was beaten, humiliated, traumatized and tortured both physically and mentally (I will not enter the Ramsey discourse because I'm still so mad about that plot divergence, it's crazy) and still, she survived, she became steel, but she also remained good and girly in doing so.
This is my queen in the North 🐺

alright so before I comment the actual edit; I'm really proud of you for finishing this and I know how much it meant to you. This is your opus magnum, let me tell you😂💖 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AGAIN. You were so valid for uploading an edit of your favourite character on your birthday, it's what you deserve❤ Shhh, it is not arrogant at all🥺 Again, I'm incredibly happy that you were able to finish it (YOU STARTED THIS IN 2019 LIKE... YOU ARE SO STRONG) because the result is simply gorgeous! Damnnnnn, you started watching the show when it first aired... you are one of the OGs👀 you know I obviously don't love Sansa as much as you do, but I still consider her my favourite female character in the show (though I don't particularly like Sophie as Sansa or the direction of the show, as we've discussed many times😂) and Book!Sansa is superior by a long shot... and you were so right to drop the show in s5 (that season was trash, we all know it, and they did Sansa so dirty... I hate it with a passion especially as a book reader) Your analysis is so on point (especially about female characters - or a specific type of female character - being hated by the fandom) and you already know I agree with everything. I've experienced the Sansa hatred first-hand from so many friends around me and I will never not be frustrated about it. I AM LIVING for your "nowadays there is this obsession with creating sTRonG feMaLE cHAraCTeRs" rant because you are so right❤ I DESPISE the whole "girlboss emotionless aggressive no femininity for me thx" trend because it is not the woke or empowering take certain people think it is. I will never forget those endless arguments with people being so adamant in pitting Sansa and Arya against each other, claiming Arya is ten times stronger because she knows how to fight (physically) and blah blah (again, why pit female characters against each other... just say you hate women who are feminine and like women who have typically masculine traits/attributes that are associated with being a man, etc.) I'm so tired of those discussions. I'm tired of people not seeing the strength in a character such as Sansa. I'm tired of people pretending she was weak and the abuse she suffered at the hands of Ramsay made her strong (you know the trope, we hate the trope) *I'M TIRED* I also hate how the show had this incredibly compelling character who was strong while still dreaming of romance and liking girly things and all the things you mentioned, and then they sacrificed that in the later seasons and wrote her in a way that would make her more appealing to audiences wanting to see boring badass girlboss characters, who are cold and emotionless and talk a big game and blah blah. YES. 100000000% YES. I want "People should just realize that girls and women are human beings too." engraved on my forehead so haters can choke when they see it lmao. This just reminded me of that interview with GRRM where he was asked why his female characters are so compelling and diverse and he was like "I just write them like I write the male characters. They're all CHARACTERS." and I respect that. YOU KNOW I will always listen to your rants and ramblings (especially about GoT/ASOIAF cause you know I usually agree) OKAY ONTO THE VIDEO... maybe I'll do a separate comment for that🤔 cause this one is already so long😂😭

Never saw GoT or read the books but gosh, I wanted her to survive 'til the end! Followed the show through mutuals on tumblr. This song is so haunting, the colouring is gorgeous!

I hate everything😭😭 stupid youtube... okay but I hope I have the energy and can do this edit justice and replicate my previous comment ugh... so here I go again💀 starting off with all the mirror parallels... so good😭 the theme of looking at yourself in the mirror and reflecting on your choices + the voice over of Baelish saying "WHAT DO YOU WANT" GENIUS ew joffrey jumpscare🤢 but ahhhh this is so perfect, again... those scenes following the "what do you want" and your edit taking us back to the very start and her initial desires, her dreams of becoming Joffrey's queen etc. ahhhh all the GIRLY/FANCY DRESS/PRETTY/BEAUTY comments YOUR MIND... followed by the "a great beauty with a very old name" line... such a good transition to the Stark legacy voiceovers, again... your MIND (imma repeat that at least a dozen times I'm sorry😂) YOU MAY SURVIVE US YET - YASSS TYRION, WISE WORDS. she truly is the key to the north ahdhfkg... "sansa will do her duty" no matter the cost I guess... but yesss the theme of duty (especially cause duty is part of her mother's house's mantra ahhhh) THE LADY/SANSA BEING HUMILIATED IN FRONT OF EVERYONE PARALLEL AJSJDJFJGOHFJO I AM LOSING MY MIND IT'S SO GOOD !!!! (as someone who LIVES for the Direwolf/Stark siblings symbolism in the books, this made me go feral!
