This game is such a fresh take on Dustbelief and Undertale fangames as a whole, really wish more future fangames explore interesting ideas like this!

I think that Sans wants to keep Monster Kid alive in an attempt to preserve some of Papyrus initial innocence by not having him kill children. Essentially, I think that during the Undyne fight Sans realizes one major flaw with his plan to have Papyrus continue collecting LV instead of him: While Sans handle the emotional distress of having to go on a murderous rampage, Papyrus clearly can't, which Sans begins to truly realize in the last stage of the fight with Undyne, where Pap goes crazy. That's also why I think why he chooses to finish her off herself, rather than reawakening his brother to finish the job, and why he attempts to reaffirm with Pap that they only kill to get stronger and RESET.

The more I look at papyrus's face I noticed that he isn't smiling,he has a straight face but we can see the gap he normally has on his cheeks,it's hard to unsee though 🤣

Sans's ghost is a hallucination, the thing is, what you see isnt necessarily real, because papyrus is insane enough to see a hallucination resembling his brother. Papyrus actually killed undyne on his own, given his mental breakdown after the sans scene. therefore, i believe that he stopped himself from killing monster kid because he was feeling regretful at that moment.

@@MonkeyHater435 that's literally a hallucination, there's no reason to believe that it ISNT papyrus hallucinating, because then you'd need to explain how tf sans became a physical being and how did he go back to being a ghost afterwards? The scene makes no sense if you actually take it as a literal interpretation of what happened, you're playing as papyrus who's visibly going insane, infact, the whole sans ghost thing came from the og dusttale thing where dust sans hallucinates papyrus's ghost because, guess what? Sans went insane. Look, during the sans scene, you can clearly see papyrus unconscious and resting onto the wall, but when the sans scene ends, papyrus is kneeling and feeling regretful, if he truly fell unconscious, then that'd mean that papyrus never actually saw undyne die (because the sans scene implies that sans killed undyne while papyrus was unconscious) and therefore wouldnt be having a mental breakdown, not only that, in the sans scene, you see frisk's path being blocked by sans's bones, but they get through the bones 30 seconds later (you can hear them using the save star) for the "papyrus throws frisk into the water to drown them" scene anyways, so you'd have to explain how frisk got through despite the fact that there's no way around. The sans scene HAS to be a hallucination, otherwise, there would be too many inconsistences and confusing things. And besides, its the most logical explanation that actually uses common sense, why would sans's ghost be actually there if he wasnt simply a hallucination happening because papyrus is slowly going insane? Wouldnt papyrus be haunted by other ghosts, especially undyne's ghost, if sans's ghost is real?

@@dylanzlol7293 Actually that does make sense. if Papyrus did fall unconscious he would be confused like "Wait, how did undyne die?" and would probably have an interaction with sans asking about it. but honestly, I find it dumb that if you ARE right then that entire scene just becomes meaningless and doesn't make sense. Why would papyrus fabricate an entire different scenario in his mind while killing undyne? very strange.

@@MonkeyHater435 hm, maybe the point of the scene is to show that papyrus is so insane that his mind ends up fabricating an entire different scenario as a coping mechanism? As if he was unable to accept that he killed his best friend or smthn, like, dustbelief papyrus blamed the human for his brother's death back when he killed dust!sans, therefore, it would make sense that he wouldnt accept that he killed undyne. Honestly, i think it'd be cool if the game made it more clear that papyrus is (going even more) insane.

I love how this adapts the dustbelief comic as well as adding new stuff.

Imagine dust!undyne where she carries on dustbelief papyrus's duty and kills the remaining monsters

I'm glad they didn't stop production on this game, It's amazing so far, and I love how they get sans and papyrus's character somewhat in line here, papyrus isn't made to be a fragile flower, but he isn't so open to murder as much as sans is, but he's starting to lose his morals on murder slowly, you can easily tell.
