I'll quickly explain the context: Ghali is an Italian singer of Tunisian origin, who has always been close to social issues of all kinds, but most of all, inclusion towards the millions of immigrants who risk their lives in the Mediterranean. For this reason he is very often criticized and attacked by far-right politicians. The medley begins with a song in Tunisian language "Bayna" (a very risky and courageous choice to bring to the Italian song festival), continues with his most famous song (Cara Italia = dear Italy) and ends with a song manifesto of Italianity (Italiano vero = true Italian). The message is a political critic and analysis on what means being italian: it's something to do with blood, a state of mind or what we believe in, our values?! This is the performance of the duet/cover songs night; he sung first in Arabic, then one of his success in Italian and finally "Italiano vero" of Toto Cotugno. With this medley Ghali talked about emigration policies and related problems; at the end of the song uses the Toto Cotugno's song refrain to convey the message that he is a true Italian (Italiano vero), probably to support all the emigrants that have difficulty obtaining Italian citizenship or are not culturally recognized as real Italians. Ghali is a Tunisian-Italian, born in Italy who I am sure was told his whole life is not really Italian, he started the song in I believe the language of Tunisia. The creature I think is a manatee and ties back to his competition song Casa Mia which has an environmental theme. It is a great song, you should check that out too.
