Loredana Bertè could be hard to understand for not-italian people, but she is a pillar of italian music: now she's 73 and her voice is not clean live but this song has a very personal and strong lyrics. She is the sister of Mia Martini another great italian artist who died too early and was somehow "bullied" and isolated by music industry in the last part of her life, and that was happening to Loredana too but she was stronger and get it through that, and this song says that: people first tell you're crazy but then they santify you, so she just loves herself carelessly of the others judges

The quality is good because it is NOT a national selection for Eurovision per se, it is a festival (the oldest televised music festival and the biggest event in Italian popular culture) in its own right and people want to win IT. Eurovision is just an added bonus, but not all artists are necessarily interested in taking part in it because is still largely considered a bit "extravagant" to be kind!

the quality is good because Italy treats its industry and all connected events with a care! Huge competition among artists and also the principle we want the best to win. Causes that there are several good choices. Ofc f.e. this year in Norway was huge diversity of songs also but it is a bit different concept. What I like that Italy just have a contest where the best wants to compete and this is a result. Maybe this year doesn’t feel so strong but come on - in what quality level are we saying this. F.e. in sweden for sure non of the songs from first heat would receive a ticket to compete in Sanremo.

Still, I highly doubt that an Italian selection with the purely intent of participating to Eurovision would be of the same level or as highly considered by the Italian music industry, that remains (sadly) very nationally focused. In general, the quality comes also from the fact that those artists (and their production) have their main goal in doing well in this competition and not (only? Have we come this far?) of participating (which is different than doing well) in another 😊

@@isha0086 but this is amazing, the worst mistake countries are doing as they aim for Eurovision as some principle with a specific audience and music, instead of just an amazing platform to showcase the best of the best! Italy is doing it right.

Btw Loredana Bertè the woman with blue hair is an icon here in Italy, she is almost 74 years old and she was a revolutional artist during the 70's and the 80's. She is known for endorsing women emncipation with her music. The lyric of this song talk about all she has been through during her life and her career and it also sends a very important message. She didn't get the recognition she deserved during the golden age of her career because she was considered too much rebel for those years but now everybody loves her.

@@JanBors Yup, she's basically saying "You call me crazy? I'm crazy about myself, I don't need you". It's cool song. But yeah, the performance is objectively quite bad. She's getting a lot of votes cause of her "character". I really hope she doesn't win. I don't just like it when participants get votes for reasons that have nothing to do with their song or their performance. Just like Geolier who gets votes mostly from Neapolitans cause he's from Naples and singing in Neapolitan.

You literally said you expected people to tell you the old "Sanremo is not a national selection" thing and they still commented just that lol. As an Italian, my fellow countrymen often embarrass me. I apologize on their behalf. Btw, I loved your video. You're the most objective and analytic reactor I've found so far. I guess one thing about which I disagree with you is Angelina Mango's song, cause I think it's quite good and I expected you to like it more. The production is so interesting and it changes directions a lot which I like. It goes from fast singing to instrumental to dramatic singing to a fuller instrumental to rapping to very dramatic singing and so on. It's captivating, especially with Angelina's performance, it fits her very well. I like it more than Annalisa's song, which in itself doesn't really stand out to me. Then of course Annalisa is a crazy good performer so I wouldn't mind her winning the contest either. And I agree with you Irama was the most impressive act. Crazy good performance, very emotional. Unfortunately I don't think he'll win tho.

You have a good musical taste, IMO your top 5 has got much quality. And you're right, Sanremo festival is a strong national "ESC selection": all artists sing live, and a great orchestra plays for them. For a reaction I would recommend you the songs of Santi Francesi (not a easy listening pop track), Big Mama, Rose Villain, all tracks I've found very interesting and an international audience could like so much. (May I ask you for your nationality? Listening to your talk I guess maybe you come from Israeli, isn't?)

The only singer that gives Annalisa a run for her money in terms of singing is Rose Villain. Sinceramente means "honestly"/"sincerely"; the identical word is also used in Portuguese.

I love Rose Villain, and she is very nice, but her live vocals are generally quite bad, including in Sanremo…is not even close to Annalisa

Btw, if you haven't reacted to these yet, here's my suggestions for 3 songs that are worth checking out: The Kolors - Un Ragazzo Una Ragazza Dargen D'Amico - Onda Alta La Sad - Autodistruttivo I don't think there's any other songs that deserve to win Sanremo outside of the 11 you reacted to here. But these ones I listed are defo some of the more "interesting" entries :)

I just watched that. You paid a lot of attention, but it's so painful when it comes to suggest songs to a foreigner. For a person like you the whole selection could be meaningful. That's because the show is modeled on the list of songs, which has its balance. For example La Sad are there because their role, and the same Ricchi e Poveri (oldies you already know for sure, they are huge in Eastern Europe) @@JanBors

I think that the most streamed song will be the one from Geolier, because he's singing in Neapolitan and so all the south of italy will cheer for him also because he is the most streamed artist of 2023 and has the most streamed album, but i think he will not win for political reason (more racist reasons) and for the hate between nord and south of Italy, other artists in sanremo that have neapolitan influences but they are singing in italian are Angelina Mango, The kolors and Bigmama. @@JanBors he still can win cause he has the double of votes of the second classified last night, but the final vote is 50%televote and 50% from journalists, it will depend from the journalists this year For now on Spotify he is 49th in the global classification and 1st in Italian classification, we will see

Racist reasons? Really? I don't like that song at all, how is that a racist thing? That's a generic song in a language that most of Italians don't even understand, why should they vote for it or why should it be considered racist if they don't? Actually the fact that people vote for that music just because they live in that area is the thing that is wrong and that doesn't make sense to me. I don't vote singers because they live in the south or in the north but because I like their songs or not. Actually I don't even know where the majority of singers came from. Btw how do you know he has the double of votes of the second classified last night? The numbers are not out yet!

Geolier clearly has an average song and is a below average performer, he's mostly getting voted a lot cause of where he comes from, even this guys here just admitted so. And yet, he says that if he doesn't win it will be cause everyone else is racist, lmao. If I could actively boycott Geolier and prevent him from winning the festival I would do so. And that has nothing to do with being racists. I would do that cause his song and performance CLEARLY aren't worthy of finishing 1st place, and he's only getting so many votes for reasons that have nothing to do with music.

I know but I watch and comment in this context. If there is no Eurovision I probably never watch Sanremo. So those two contests coexist quite nicely and also influence each other likewise.

I dont know what youre talking about sometimes, its not a strong year, you're hyping Italy up too much. Also they use autotune dont they? Feel like some of the performances need to be taken with a grain of salt, because they use so many effects. Anyways, one of the best song isn't even in this top 10, Sancti Francesi 😊

thethey dont do autotune, they use vocal effects, but I am hyping it for several reasons - its authentic, its live concert with live orchestra, its musically very rich, artists have amazing presence etc… songwise this year I am not so impress but it still have this, you can just see the quality of super singers, the best of bests of the country on the stage. Now compare it to other Big5 countries. Btw this top is based on KZread streams, as I did not have time this year to go trough all and this was a matrix how to get at least 10. But I will create probably another artists reaction during today and tomorrow.
