If you add 500,000 people in the space of a year, living standards will be reduced. Land is finite. Every extra person makes every square metre of that land more valuable and more expensive: supply and demand. Great for anyone who owns some land. They will scream "racism" at anyone who wants to reduce demand for housing. But an increase in population means that the younger and poorer members of the community must pay more and more for less and less living space. 500,000 extra people will compete with the indigenous for the time and attention of health care workers and teachers whose training they haven't paid for.

You can disagree with what he's saying but this faux ridicule she's doing from around 5 minutes about his speculation that massive amounts of people want to come over here is irritating af. The more I watch, the more slimy and bad faith she becomes (because she is incredibly mad). For anyone who can't see through it, he's not saying billions of people have a constant desire to come specifically to the UK tomorrow. He's saying there are billions of people living in OBJECTIVELY worse countries and if you handed them all a UK passport and citizenship, millions, possibly tens, possibly hundreds, there is no way to know for sure, would want to come. Just to check this theory, 113,742 Hong Kongers have moved to the UK since we gave them citizenship. iirc Hong Kongers have BETTER living standards than the UK and a higher GDPPC. Now what do you think will happen if you gave citizenship to Ethiopia, a country with over 10x the Hong Kong population and living standards similar to the UK in the 1800s? What if you did that to the whole world via open borders? That's his argument, his explanation was poor, but I guess it was hard to explain while being interrupted by a bad faith condescending ghoul constantly. She knew what his argument was too, that's why she went straight to the US and EU for the ridicule routine, rather than the 2/3 of the world he was obviously referring to. Also, his claim that the refugees have done nothing wrong is a pretty weird. The claim of one of them making advances on a schoolgirl didn't look completely unbelievable to me (of course, one incident) and all of them have tried to break into the country, many under the cover of darkness knowing they are not invited after paying to be illegally smuggled across the world, mostly from safe countries. At the very least, we know they are the types of people to attempt this.
@redbloodcell4047
Жыл бұрын
"if you handed them all a UK passport and citizenship..." Yeah I'm sure that if you enabled people to come here, you would get more people coming here, because that is fairly obvious stuff and a complete non-point. The reality is that most people will want to stay at home, in places they're familiar with, but are unable to for whatever reason. People in HK were facing the Chinese authorities, so its not like they had nothing to run from. And very few people are arguing for open borders. Asylum seekers (and by extension, refugees) have done nothing wrong because by the international definition the UK helped create in the 1950s, they are legally allowed to cross borders to arrive in a destination of their choosing so long as they claim asylum on arrival at their destination. The UK doesn't offer any "legal" entry point other than to cross the Channel via boat. This system has been exploited by smuggling gangs because of the UK government's unwillingness to offer any other means of claiming asylum in the UK - a tactic designed to make it seem as though they are coming here illegally, when the vast majority of them are not, even by the government's own standards. Those who have fraudulent asylum claims are deported. Incidents of some refugees causing issues and acting criminally in local areas doesn't justify closing our borders completely.
