This is a VERY affordable option for anyone wanting to store power for a grid-down situation.
It's great to see good power stations available for half the cost of the leading brands.
Apologies to Sanfou for taking a while to make this video but I'm very rigid with my testing and reviewing. I need to charge, discharge, charge, store, discharge and repeat to properly test everything I receive before giving an honest opinion on it, with very few exceptions.
If you're looking for an affordable power station then this one is worthy of consideration and it pairs very well with the solar panels I have (Allpowers and Jackery) - most solar panels will have cables which are Anderson and standard DC. The Sanfou takes a standard DC18V input so it's no problem to charge with any of the solar panels I have (or from the mains using the supplied mains charger).
Being prepared for any of the nonsense arising from Agenda 2030 is a great feeling and being energy independent is a huge step toward that - not everyone is willing (or has the ability) to install a proper off grid solar system so this is a great option.
If you want an affordable long term solution for family drinking water when look no further:
• Family Water Filter - ...
Some of the links above may be to my affiliate programs on Amazon and Ebay so they will throw a few pennies my way if you make a purchase - it costs you nothing extra and helps towards keeping the lights on in my bunker.

I hope you're keeping well too and it's good to see you're still getting out plenty of times. With youtube being the way it is now I don't use it much so apologies for the lack of interaction. Detecting is just pot luck and you never know when a huge nugget will show up so I wish you all the best when you're out there. @@Andysfishing That is a great result and heavier than the weight of a UK sovereign so there's a decent value of gold in that one nugget. The price of gold has gone mad over the last few years but the price of gold and silver will probably rocket in the next year or so if the world continues to push towards more ridiculous wars. We could even see a similar situation from 1930's in the US where the government outlawed gold and had a forced buy back scheme at a set price. Everyone turned in their gold and got worthless paper for it then the price rocketed up so the plebs couldn't afford to buy it back.

I probably got an early model and to be fair I have had it for a while. I always end up getting grief from companies who send me battery power stations for review since I use them for months before doing a video review. Whenever watching review videos on other channels I always like to go for products which have been properly used by the reviewers but sadly that is becoming rare - most channels ask for payment to review products, get the product, bash out a poor review then sell the product the next day whereas I genuinely use the product, won't accept anything for review unless I will use it and I keep the vast majority of the products. However, on occasion I will give products away like I did last year on my Thousand Yard Stare channel where I gave around £3k of gear away leading up to Christmas. I'll probably do that again this Christmas.

Anyone good at electric maths? Wondering how long one of these would run a pair of FX-6 filters. Get loads of power cuts during winter where I live

  • @pondguru

    @pondguru

    9 ай бұрын

I'm none too good at maths of any type but the watts drawn out for 2 x FX6 would be 82W and 606Wh divided by 82W is 7,39 hours. That sounds about right but I could have made that calculation far too simplified. Ideally for such power hungry filters you'd have them operating on a plug in timer so only one was operating at any time, half an hour on and half an hour off - that will double the time which the power bank will be able to supply power to them. If you have one filter running then turning off as the other starts up and repeat that cycle during the power cut you will use half the electric compared to running both of them full time. If you run each filter only 15 minutes an hour you'll get 4x as much run time from them which is 29.56 hours. Hope that makes sense.

@@pondguru Thanks for the detailed reply fella. Yes makes sense. I wonder how long it takes for bacteria to die off in my Biohome with no running water over it (when power is cut). Longest has been 3 hours and hadn't seen an issue from it. I did by one of those uninteruptable power supplies that you use for computers but the FX-6's barely run (and don't sound happy) so didn't want to risk knackering them

@@dascudder (my other channel) If the filter is turned off and left full of water the bacteria won't be too badly affected for a day or so but if you know the power is going to be off it would be best to drain the canister so that the media is not sitting in water then it will last for many days with no realm ill effect since static water in a canister will soon go toxic if left too long. Ideally the media would be removed from the filter, placed in mesh bags and put into the tank with a small pump (USB powered from power bank) pushing water over it to keep the bacteria fed and healthy for as long as the power is off.

@@ThousandYardStareTHAT is music to my ears. I read on Google (yeah go figure) that the clock starts ticking after 20 mins. Now when I clean my sponges out I’ve no real need to panic like I always do. Cheers for that. I’ve no need to worry for a few hours then 👍

  • @ThousandYardStare

@@dascudder What you read online wasn't necessarily incorrect but certainly with good porous filter media it maintains a jacket of water around it which effectively protects it - that's why it's fine to take the media out of the water, leave it lying around for a few days then put it back in. It would take weeks to dry out. However, with plastic media or smooth ceramic rings the story is very different since the bacteria is only populating the outside of the media and is vulnerable to a drop in water quality or drying out since it can't retain water within the media. Hope that makes sense - basically how quickly the filter will suffer during a power cut or during moving tanks / filters from one house to another all comes down to the choice of filter media and how much bacteria it will hold.

The big question that were not addressed at all and therefore in my opinion makes this review pointless. For this unit. Is the AC output a square sinus, a stepped sinus or a pure sinus wave ? The pure sinus is preferred (just as it is in a ordernary wall jacket) and the most expensive to implement (electronic circuit in the unit). The square wave "sinus" is the cheapest and least attractive. And the stepped one is something in between both in function and cost of implementation. There is some delicate electronics if plugged in that may have an issue with the two cheaper types.. Just that info may be valuable to the viewer depending on what consumers they will plug into that unit. I understand that this type of information is nothing the average consumer or reviewer thinking about, but when their laptop starting to unexpectedly crash and they don't know why and have to learn the hard way (stuff may brake). Anyone can read a label 230V or whatever but there is more to it than meet the eye 👀. 😂 ❤

To be honest I've never understood the Amazon business model so when I post the links they may work one day and not the next day. Oh, come on Richard you getting old? Nah! I turned 50 (7 years ago) I started 1.50 for reading. Now I'm up to 2.25 sometimes if it's small 2.50. Not bad nice compact versatile and what you read is quite powerful for its size. 30 years ago when I was camping a lot in the wild would've come in handy. Nowadays I don't go and if I go is with my adult daughters who like the modern ways of Showers and electricity by the campsite. Running water nearby and toilets also. So as much as I like these new useful gadgets' sadly I've no use for them. But I keep it in mind. For my house, I have a backup generator with battery backup and a solar charger just in case. Never mind Richard we all get old so our eyes get a little out of wack but I just use the dollar store magnifying eyeglasses for reading.

That is a good set up you've got at home and having something in place to see you through a power cut is very important. Solar panels, battery back up or a generator with plenty of clean fuel is perfect. I still like having a few of these battery power stations in storage which is why I'm so keen to review them. I use them all the time when the mains goes off to power the cabin I work from and it saves firing up a generator when the main batteries on my solar equipment are expended. I'm the same regarding camping - when I was young I would sleep under a bush, catch and cook my own food and live like a tramp but now I like to have a bit more of the modern conveniences.

@@pondguru I hear you. But now you are teasing me. But those experiences take it with us. We can tell those stories to our kids or others but they wouldn't understand it unless like you and I we minded and did similar things when we were young. I'd be lying if I wouldn't miss it but yeah to getting old part is (I could sleep on short grass or on the ground in a sleeping bag but now I need to have at least a blowup air mattress. Plus my back is not what it use to be) so you see we both can go on and on and today we know what makes sense what is practical or needed and what is just a gadget. I remember when I was camping I took a big cooler 2 bags of ice or later we got those cool packs instead of ice. 2 years ago my oldest daughter went with her guy and 2 other couples and now they have those stick-it-down solar panels hooked on the electric cooler and don't have to bother with ice or coolpack even in a cloudy day is working. Attached to a battery that lasts 12 hours fully charged. But really all you need is around 8 hours cause the sun comes up every day right so never goes out, and the battery doesn't drain. Well, that is today and what it was you and I know it! Oh, well thanks for the reply and I will always look forward to any of your new videos. TY!
