Hiroschima is a electro ballad. From 1990, reached #4 in Germany, check it out. She actually belts out at the end in a way, you would not expect. You can do tons of reactions of great Sandra songs, sooo many hits.

In Europe (and especially in Germany and in France) she was considered in 1986-1988 as "the European Madonna" and success-wise she really was. Even though her image was far less sexual than Madonna's, she was more sexy and less sexual but her string of hits at the time was as much impressive as Madonna's. Her success peaked in 1988 in Europe, also due to the fact that Madonna's wasn't there musically for much of 1988 (doing theatre in the play "Speed The Plow" and not making new music that year). As a fan, at first, I was very surprised at the sudden change of sound (from the pure pop of tracks like "In The Heat Of The Night" or "Innocent Love" to her more modern hits like "Heaven Can Wait" or "Secret Land" because her sound evolved a lot more towards dance and techno (probably due to the fact that her husband and producer Michael Cretu was getting more and more into techno-dance beats through his Enigma project) and this techno-dance evolution is even more obvious in 1990 on her next album "Paintings In Yellow") but this album (Into A Secret Land) was very successful in France and Germany (almost like Madonna's "True Blue" album was). In 1986 I was under the impression that only I was listenning to Sandra but in 1988 even my neighbours, my classmates and my friends (who used to listen to Madonna and not Sandra) started listenning to Sandra's album "Into A Secret Land" too). That's when I knew that this album was special and more successful than her previous ones. 4 hit singles in a row from the same album (Heaven Can Wait, Secret Land, We'll Be Together and Around My Heart : the 2 last singles are also very good) : 4 successful singles from the same album : never a Sandra album had so much hits) so its success was no surprise and it's a hell of a very good album (1988's Into A Secret Land) because even album tracks like the very good "Crazy Juliet" or "Celebrate Your Life" also had the potential of becoming singles too.

Another great one by Sandra. Has always been one of my favorites. Ballads by Sandra would be "Loreen", "Johnny Wanna Live", "Hiroshima" and "Little Girl". Although the latter three might also be considered mid tempo.

This song is taken from her third album "Into A Secret Land" as a second single in September 1988 and it's an adaptation of the German group Fabrique, "Trenchcoat Man" recorded in 1987. It will be ranked no.26 in France, in the TOP 10 in Germany and Austria and reached the top 20 in a number of other European countries. It exists a 1999 version taken from her album "My favourites" (even if I prefer the original version from 1988), but with minor success in Germany. In 85/86/87 I loved her songs, especially 'In the heat of the night' and 'Everlasting love' but I wasn't an absolute big fan. But in 88 with the album 'Into a secret land' I became a real fan. I couldn't stop listening this album when I was a child. This was a dream for me and I still love it a lot. One song in the album was for me the best of all, it was 'Celebrate your life'. Each song of 'Into a secret land' is absolutely wonderfull.

"Secret Land" is my number 1 favorite song. Sandra was also the lead singer for the disco group Arabesque. As for ballads, Forever, is one of my favorite.

I was at University when this was released, id been an Arabesque fan and Sandra fan since MM first release. I remember playing this and the remixes in the student halls and having lots of people come to ask who it was. A major part of my teens/twenties...

She has indeed done some ballads and out of the ones she released I would check out 'One More NIght' or 'Forever'. Some of my favourite slower songs weren't released so you may want to listen to those privately as they will not have a video, but I would definitely recommend 'Just Like DIamonds', 'Mirrored in Your Eyes', 'When the Rain Doesn't Come', 'Seal it Forever' and her cover of the Talk Talk song 'Such a Shame'. One other track that I think is a standout, but would not necessarily say is a ballad is 'The Journey' - an epic song!

This, along with 'Heaven can wait' from her 3rd album Into a secret land, wich is possibly her greatest album, made me a fan forever. As for a ballad, I think there is the beautiful 'Change your mind' on her first album 'The long play'. No official video, unfortunatelly.

Blank & Jones walked on Michael Cretu's Paths and brought us back the beloved Sandra feeling . "Stay in Touch" is my Second Favorite Album after "The Long Play" .... we all know why ;-) I recommend "Stay in Touch" to you, because you won't be bored for a Second your Feet are danced bloody and you throw Bananas around you lol.

Hiroshima so ahead of its time too. Synths intro even reminds of forthcoming work from MJ in 1997, then a beautiful melody comes crafted with pioneer electro sounds, a surprising light guitar is melted with it, and as always amazing nasty beats drive the song specifically when you think it was produced back in 1990. Just before Michale Cretu came along with the worldwide blast Enigma.
