    The San Rafael Swell used to be in my backyard!! I used to own an old ranch and the road heading east was where my home was. But you missed the Swinging Bridge. You passed it on the way in. I remember we used to have to drive, carefully, over it to get to the camp ground. My kids, who are adults now, used to play in the San Rafael River. The bridge was built back in around the 1930's. But the BLM has preserved that bridge and built the newer one. The construction was delayed a year since there were a pair of Perigrine Falcons who built a nest there and didn't want to disturb the nest. You also missed Swasey's Leap. It's a gorge where the San Rafael River flows below but on top the rims are about 20 +/- feet across. And some fellow made a bet with some other cowards he and his horse could leap over to the other side. He did and won the bet, hence Swayes Leap. The winds are notorious at the Wedge. You also missed the dinosaur tracks. But overall, you did a great job on the video! I miss my home there in Utah. It was a great place to raise my kids. Today, from learning the work ethics on the ranch, and exploring the beautiful desert of the Swell, they both now work in the medical profession. My daughter still has horses and rides as much as possible in the Southern Appalachian's here in North Carolina. It's nice here, but too many trees, can't see the beautiful landscapes here as much because of the trees. LOL BTW, I cried when you were driving thru the Swell. For me the deserts of Utah is home for me.

    It is a beautiful area. I was in there about 12 yrs ago MTB with some friends. We drove into an acess area off the interstate to a small camping area. We were only in for a ride as we were staying in Green river. It was early April and the weather changed rapidly from sun to rain to snow as we were riding. After an hour or so it was quite miserable and we rode back to my truck, a GMC 4WD Suburban. The dirt had now turned to that adhesive gumbo and our bikes were unridable and walking was quite excitingly difficult. We loaded up the bikes and were going to head out the way we came when a local sherrif stopped and suggested we go a different route. OKAY! We ended up on the plateau top driving through 12 -18inches of red snowy slop for what seemed eternity in a blinding blizzard. Of note the GMC had a nice set of Michelin LTX road tires. Not the best for this. I remember opening the door wondering if I had a flat and seeing the tires rotating with a 4 inch or so coating of that bentonite type mud. We finaly dropped off the swell 20 miles north of GreenRiver onto Hwy 6. An extra 20+ miles and a definate sensation of we are going to be out here a lot longer than planned! Not sure why that sherrif suggested that... but grrrrr!. The lesson learned" These roads are impassable in wet weather" As the signs says. Cleaning the bikes and truck is a whole other story.

    Your videos are better because they are authentic, hence the reason I subscribe to your Patreon. Don’t ever get like Justin McBride, who so brazenly acts as if America’s public lands are his alone. He keeps locations secret and hopes to monetize them via this platform, rather than do what we all aim, which is to share our love for the outdoors. The operative word there is “SHARE.” No, Sir, what you do and how you do it is SO much better than Justin’s as evidenced by your growing subscriber numbers. We love your vids.

  • @RevereOverland

    @RevereOverland

    2 жыл бұрын

    I appreciate your support, but disagree with your perception of Justin. He's a good guy and does what he believes is best. To give you another perspective: some of his subscribers can't stand me and think that I'm too revealing about where I go, which leads to the best places being over-loved. You don't have to like his videos, of course. He's very outgoing, where I'm more of an introvert, so we have very different styles!

    Loved your video! The drone footage was awesome. San Rafael Swell has been our go to spot for years so it was nice seeing familiar sights from your drone. Regarding the Burpee dinosaur quarry, we were there when the museum people were digging and I have video of that and the actual bones. They hide the locations of over where they have dug so people don’t remove any of the bones. Saw your Bills cap and I’m originally from Buffalo now living in Montrose, Colorado. I stumbled on your channel by accident and have subscribed to see your other videos. Still can’t get over your drone footage! 😀👍

    Good video mate but if I may make a recommendation. Slow down a bit, show camp, let your buddies talk, the editing was really jumpy and fast with little time to focus on what you were showing. Too much music, too much drone, not enough personality. Thanks

    I don’t have a personality! You might enjoy Justin’s editing style more.

    Sounds like a great opportunity for you to do your own videos as you want them - slower, less music, more talking, more personality! 👍🏼
