San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato with Eat Baila Travel

San Miguel de Allende Mexico was voted the best city in the world by Travel + Leisure Magazine. So what is so great about San Miguel de Allende? You’ll just have to watch this Mexico Travel vlog to find out!
In this San Miguel de Allende Vlog we will show you around this beautiful city located in the state of Guanajuato. San Miguel de Allende is a hot spot for foreign retirees as well as international and domestic travelers. San Miguel de Allende is an expat favorite and in this video we will find out how and why! Our Mexico Travel Vlog is unlike any other travel vlog filled with mexican history and always showing you what to do and what to eat when visiting.
In this vlog we will be spending three days in San Miguel de Allende hoping to answer these three questions:
Why are so many foreigners drawn to San Miguel de Allende?, a small city in the mountains of Guanajuato.
How did San Miguel de Allende transform into one of the most magnetic destinations for artists and expatriates (most of them American)? Looking for a new life
Lastly, would we live here? Hopefully three days are enough to find this out

The doors - there’s a law that says they must be made of wood in San Miguel it’s on a list of heritage places that are unique and special like the Great pyramid etc which must be preserved for future generations. So for instance businesses cannot create bright signs that stick out into the street. They must be flat and use neutral colors. Preserving the historic nature of this town is very important and reflected in the local laws

I just went to SMA for a day trip but will have to go back to explore more. It's beautiful, but pricey by Mexican standards...that's why I chose to stay in Guanajuato (which is also beautiful, and a bit more lively in my opinion). It's also very close to Queretaro, so one could enjoy living in a "real city" and coming to SMA for shorter visits. It is refreshing to see a video that delves into the history of the city rather than just giving a superficial overview. Good job 👍

Yes we can agree! SMA is definitely a pricier than other locations in Mexico. Since we just flew in from Chicago the prices didn’t feel as pricey but now that we’re in Guanajuato we can feel the difference. Thank you so much for helping us find our next and perhaps final destination. Perhaps it would be good for you to visit Playa Del Carmen. Or Cabo San San Lucas. Your young. I think you may need more action in your in your young lives. Maybe opportunity to experience the diversity, culture of others destinations in Mexico that provide more options would be a good thing.. Mexico has it all. You'll find your home soon. As you change in life, as we all do,Mexico has no shortage of destinations to fit your situations in life in the best possible way. Happy I found you. We have actually been to Cabo and Playa del Carmen but for beach a beach destination we love Puerto Escondido. Have you ever been to Querétaro? It is very close from San Miguel and it is lovely. Excellent video, here are the reasons I liked it; -The history behind the pioneers of this great city especially that gringo from Chicago 💨💨 i’ve seen a lot of videos from San Miguel, but nobody gave as much background information as you guys 👍 -DOORS, not the 1960s musical group but the actual entrance doors, they are so gorgeous, and detailed. 🙂 I am a big fan of these San Miguel doors so much that I asked about their price, nowadays they cost thousands of dollars 💵 each!! - it’s nice that you stayed for three days and not just a day trip so that you can get the most out of the city and experience it in the daylight and night time 👏, and although I would’ve liked to see some nightlife especially in the beautiful terrace areas close to the main square, nonetheless it fun to watch 😄 So glad you made it to Guanajuato state and if you get to Guanajuato city, I will look forward to your take. I liked your malinche video and would it be nice to get a different take in Guanajuato city, the birthplace of Diego Rivera the great artist that in my view does not get the proper recognition because he was always overshadowed by Frida Kahlo. 🌝🌞 Saludos para uds. Thank you so much for taking the time and writing such a thoughtful comment. We truly appreciate your feedback! We were very curious as to why San Miguel is so popular amongst expats and once we arrived we kept saying lots of Americans which fueled us to find out why. It makes us very happy that you find enjoyment in our videos. we love to provide information we learn about in our travels but we don’t know if viewers find it interesting. We will apologize in advance, we’re currently in Guanajuato city but only for 24 hours. Thus far, we love it! So we will back to make better informative videos. Our Guanajuato Vlog will be on our limited time here but we will be back because there’s so much to learn and share from this city. That Malinche video is by far our favorite Vlog! It was so much work but all worth it! We hope to make more videos like that in the future. Thank you for the Diego Rivera idea! We will start doing research and be prepared for when we return to Guanajuato. Saludos desde Guanajuato Mientras nos comemos una enchiladas mineras!

Thank you for focusing on the Instituto de Allende. My parents studied there from 1968 - 1970. We were the only Black Americans from Chicago. It seemed that many natives had never seen Black Americans except in the Olympics. My sister and I attended a Catholic public school and became fluent quickly. Sad to see the Instituto is no longer functioning as an art school. Maybe someone will do a documentary on the artist that went there.

We really enjoyed your video of SMA and plan to go there in a few days. We retired early in Mazatlan, Mexico and spend time traveling the world (especially during the hot and humid summer months in Mazatlan). Our Kimberly works remotely as a corporate lawyer and travels with her fiance to the best surfing spots (in Indonesia now), plus owns a house in the San Diego area near the beach. I see you have traveled to a few places we have visited abroad and here in Mexico. Your video gave a quick history of how SMA evolved from the Spanish Independence days into the artsy town it is today (even with the Bill Dickinson connection - we lived near Princeton and walked there nearly every weekend). This story was quite meaningful and it's missing from most of the vlogs we see out there. Keep up the good work and enjoy your time traveling across Mexico. Enjoy the journey and we shall be following you guys along the way.

I'm really enjoying your videos. I was going to suggest that you might like Guanajuato more but I see others beat me to it. I spent about 8 months in Guanajuato in 2018 and took a planned 3 day side trip to SMA but cut the trip short a day to return to GTO because while SMA was nice, I felt that there were too many people like me! (English-speaking gringos). As a university town there's a much "younger" feel & energy to the place than I found in SMA. I'm at least twice as old as you two, but I much preferred Guanajuato, and I look forward very much getting back to Mexico before long. Currently I travel there vicariously through your and others' videos!

Thank you for your video. It's just another lesson, for my people here in the U.S. who have this very bad impression of Mexico as a whole, NOT TO MENTION, it's people, whom are warm hard working with a mindset of servitude, even in a social level. My parents retired in a small lakeside colony, which was established by the French,in Jalisco Mx. Needless to say, they are extremely happy, with beautiful year round weather. The locals, look out for, and treat my parents with such warmth. It seems to me, "THE WALL" just might serve, to keep Us "OUT OF MEXICO",visa versa. So, start being nice to a Mexican today, and LEARN SPANISH, ASAP before the dollar collapses, haha!!

It is a beautiful town north of Querétaro. Juriquilla is home to the campuses of UVM and UNAM universities. Shopping centers with fashion outlets sit alongside Mexican restaurants, student-oriented bars and traditional cantinas on Boulevard Universitario, and Plaza Náutica’s fine-dining restaurants serve international dishes.

That we’d like to learn because to our understanding it’s all over the place! Some people say it’s in Mexico City September 27 1821 then we see an article that it’s on august 24th 1821 in Córdoba Veracruz

I have recently requested the permanent resident visa from the Mexican consulate, Portland, Oregon. The initial process is now on-line. The request is emailed, with a short description of the reason for the request. An official replies with a PDF file. The PDF is completed and returned via email. After 10 days, an in-person appointment date is sent by email. Even though I requested a permanent visa request form, I only received a temporary request form. Communication with the consulate is quite terse.

One of us works remotely and the other manages the KZread channel. We also were planning for a move like this for a couple of years so we saved and budgeted to make this dream a reality.

Why do you call immigrants expats, does it sound low class? call it for what it is IMMIGRANTS to our country.

I guess it’s the mainstream term and we hear it a lot so that’s why we used it but you’re totally right, most people are immigrants not expats.

EatBailaTravel is one of the few (if not the only!) travel channels by mexican-americans. Our cultural backgrounds, languages, and upbringing inform the way we travel. We use our strengths to build a bridge between 2 countries who are often at odds with one another, and to build a community for those who can relate to the “ni de aquí ni de allá” complex.
