Mine arrived last week. An excellent watch, super comfortable and excellent quality overall. I also own a GMT master 2. which I paid 6k for 4 years ago. I can feel the quality difference in the strap, but its minor. The dial on the SM is really well done. Lume on the SM is better then the rolex by far. The size is also better than the GMT. You have to hand it to SM on this one. Its a killer watch for the money.

Have to admit with microbrands and homage watches, they address many wants and gripes the big brands don't. In this case for yeara since the original BB Pepsi GMT was first launched, pretty much at it's debut, fans wanted a BB58 size Pepsi GMT at 39mm, .make it not thick nor thick looking, ditch the faux rivets and SM did it... and, all while drastically being way less expensive. The only they could do better to really make it even better is to use the Miyota 9075. Sure the price will go up, but, I think it would still be worth it just to get the jumping hour for convenience whole traveling if not those days which you have to fall back or spring forward.

I think San Martin is a great option to “try out” a more expensive watch, the only thing that changes is the movement and the company name on the dial. For less than the cost of tax on the tudors you can wear it and see if there isn’t any fatigue.

I just received the white/champagne GMT model two days ago. I had the Tudor Pepsi GMT for 2 years but sold it due to it being too larger diameter. I bought the new 39mm Pro GMT which fits much better but I love a Pepsi bezel. The SM is fantastic value for money and whilst it’s not a ‘traveller GMT’ it’s proportions suit me perfectly. However, the hand alignment and date flip timing were awful. I have reset them and now they are perfect but I found out why the bezel did not align perfectly on mine; the movement is held in place with a spring washer which is clamped by the caseback. On giving the caseback a final tighten the movement slightly rotates, turning the markers slightly anti-clockwise away from the bezel position. As I won’t be swimming the watch I have left the caseback hand tight so the bezel aligns with the markers. If I wanted to have the caseback 100% tight then I would have to reset the bezel insert position. Still, it’s a great watch for the money but QC could be a little better

No, it's not crazy. San Martin watches are really that good. It's not just that they're very affordable. The specs and build quality pretty much blow every other non Chinese made watch out of the water. Yes they are homage watches with very little to no originality but so is everyone else. Plus they are catering to what everyone wants and they do a fantastic job at it. Better than everyone else.

I have a couple and have had minor issues with QC. One lug on my sn004g retro diver is marginally out of square resulting in tiny gap between the case and end link. The crown on my sub homage wouldn't engage properly so I had it replaced but the new one occasionally does the same thing. Also the cyclops is ever so slightly off centre as is the date wheel aperture. I've heard SMs after sales service is a bit hit and miss but I bought from a UK seller so replacement was painless. Apart from that the overall quality and finish is very good for the money.

Ironically the larger indices are going to equate to better lume- I have the Tudor and it’s got the smallest ones I have seen on a case size that big..San Martin has arguably improved on the original design just like the explorer II,although the Tudor movement smokes the seiko nh34 . Is it worth another $4k? It depends on who you are, and I prefer the 41mm case size.

I don't know if I'd say they are better than Islander but they are cheaper. I think both brands are on par with each other. Not sure if you bought an Islander or just passing an opinion but I recently got one. And there is a lot of watch there for the money. Also, Islander has an identity which Marc is developing based on his knowledge and experience. Unique color profiles, better bands, and better quality control. Marc did a homage on Seiko watches which if you think about is primarily for watch nerds who still want a skx007 and then mod the hell out of that watch. And his watch doesn't look like skx007 from far off, it is just different enough to have its own identity.

Great watch. Well built at a great price. But the direct clone homage is not for me. At least change the hands. The different dials add some interest from me. I think Tudor would stand alone without Rolex. They’ve got some heritage with their niche sport and adventure sponsorships. They’d have more credit without the link. Maybe then they could produce a more competitive product (with thinner movements 😅)

  • @aristotlejb82

There is a difference between homages and clones and these are straight up clones so much so that I would not be surprised if replica manufacturers would use these as their base to build replica watches. I personally try to stay away from such watches because from far away I may give an impression that I am wearing a tudor or a rolex when I am not. I wish they had done a few things to change the design, hands or indexes. Like one reviewer said that "he would not consider san martin a brand but a watch manufacturer as they lack any identity on their own". I just prefer my watches to have their own identity. There are so many watches out there in 300-500 range with a lot of originality and character which deserve a chance more than a clone in my opinion. If I want a Tudor, I will go buy a tudor not San Martin.

San Martín offer the style/look combined with good QC. I own 4 of them and they are my go-to choices 90% of the time. I also own one Rolex that I constantly think about selling as it is a safe- queen that I take out occasionally and baby when I wear it. Hardly the definition of enjoyment... San Martín, Pagani Design, Cronos etc are simply meeting demand at a price point that is attainable by most. They don't harm Rolex's bottom line, and they are not fakes - and to be brutally honest, almost no-one knows or cares enough to be worried about being 'fooled' by a homage.
