Recently retired from a major carrier and I can say that the 777 made everyone look good. Of all the aircraft I flew it produced the smoothest landings, more often, than any other aircraft. Loved it.

I have a question. What’s different between pressing hold and not pressing it after going into the heading selection mode? If u don’t press hold will the plane fly back to the LNAV route after the turn u make on MCP ?

@@drewfwieuriskfi If you pressed HDG SEL the airplane will fly the heading you've selected until you give it another command. If there is a hold built into the flight plan and you are in LNAV it will fly the hold until you tell it to exit. Its not uncommon to be given a hold, enter it using HDG SEL until the new hold is built in the box and you verify it with the other crew member, hit EXEC and LNAV. If you are flying along and just hit HOLD it will enter a hold at your present position. The pattern it flys is what ever is loaded into the hold page.

I love SFO, and the city it serves. I was a flying fanatic when I was 16, and I could fly to SFO from Oakland for 12 bucks and spend the day in the open air platform and watch everything on the tarmac. I would ask the attendants if I could go inside, and they often let me. I know thise days are in the past. This was way before the TSA was established. When in the plane I would take a menu with permission. It was a wonderful memory that I will take to my grave. Still I love San Francisco city and the wonderful airport there.

You used to fly from OAK to SFO? Who did that? It's funny that they are so close, about 10 miles, but driving between them takes ages, depending on traffic. I only lived there from 1998 to 2018, but in that time there was no flight route between the two, or I'd have used it! BART was the best cheap option.

@@cageordie Yes, there were flights between the two airports. I worked at SFO in the late 80's and I believed it was during that period that they stopped doing those flights. It was extremely convenient for those who needed to cross the bay quickly. Depending on the time of day, driving could be well over an hour and even approaching two hours.

From experience, the pilots know what wording and directions they'll hear from ATC at every point in the landing sequence. They get used to ignoring everything but commands to their own aircraft call sign, which they expect to hear at every location along their flight path.

Very nice video. In addition to beautiful images on approach, I love having the crew exchanges, the view of the controls, the radio, etc. Nice super soft landing!

Parfait CRM au poste, ça communique, ça cross-check, ça propose, ça lève le doute s'il y en a un, et un commandant de bord qui valorise son PF, pas de positionnement trop hiérarchique, un exemple a copier dans l'aviation et dans d'autres domaines...top ces pilotes et un beau kiss au toucher. 👍

Only been to SFO once and it scares me coming in to land. I didn’t know the airport landing strip sat directly at the shoreline so all I could see out my window was water getting closer and closer to the plane and no land (apparently) nearby. Got nervous that we would make a water landing! Silly I know, but it was definitely unnerving.

Is sfo an easy airport to land at with it being so close to sea?

It's funny seeing places I used to work from the air. You'd never believe how bad the traffic is from this video. Must have been a Sunday, any other day 84 would have been heaving. Can't help remembering Asiana when I see this, they failed to hand fly this same approach. I lived in Alameda then and we had at least one A380 turn up at OAK after Asiana closed SFO.

At 05:08, I don't think that ATC cleared him for landing. He only cleared them for ILS 28L approach, of which the pilot read back as cleared descent minima approach. At 05:35, ATC gave the United aircraft clearance for take off at 28L, which means that the clearance to land is not given earlier to the Air France pilot. It is astounding to me that when they asked for confirmation to land at 500 feet callout, the ATC merely reply "Affirmative" instead of the full clearance. I know SFO is busy but this is another level of non-standard communication.

@@ClonYeong USA doesn't work like other countries, they tend to clear aircraft for landing when established, even if there are for example 3 aircraft ahead.

It's so much quieter in the front than I thought it would be for some reason.

How are you over Redwood City, then 2 minutes later, you're over Mountain View on your way to SFO?
