San Diego to Two Harbors, Catalina Island by Beneteau 35 Sailboat + Bluefin Tuna Catch

Join Sailing Xocolate on our 14-hour journey from San Diego to Two Harbors on Catalina Island. Spend a week with us as we snorkel, fish, hike, and enjoy the sunsets on Isthmus Cove. Our little Beneteau Oceanis 35 sailboat held up well for a full week with 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog. We even get into the bluefin tuna action on our journey home. Check it out and please like and subscribe for more action.

Nice Bluefin Tuna gang, good job on the hand line to boat the fish. The gaff will be ready next time I'm sure. 1 of my goals in 2023 is to catch a Bluefin Tuna from my Catalina 25 sailboat ⛵ This video will be my inspiration to make that happen, so big thanks for this 🤙🏽

On the trip to Catalina, what buoy did you take a right at outside of Point Loma to then head north to the island? SD-4 or perhaps as far as SD-1? I'm sorry that I did not understand what you said in your video.

Fantastic. The 35.1 seems to handle that length a trip with ease. Just took delivery of mine. Loving it. Can I ask you a question about your experience on the 35.1? I’m 2 weeks in, moving about the slip is the only thing which gives me some angst. Was that your experience? Actually that makes me more jittery than being caught in a blow - so far 37kts has been my record, boat felt solid as a rock.

Getting in and out of the slip was always jittery for me for quite a while. Even still to this day if the wind is blowing hard. I'm in an end slip - so there's always wind and current. One thing I do is back the boat into the slip. With double rudders, I have so much more control. One tip I learned is when she starts moving backwards - turn your body around so your facing forward vs looking over your shoulder. That allows you to easily drive it in reverse pretty much in any space. I also have a visual marker (for example I know I need to turn hard when I get to the edge of the jet ski dock). That keeps the guesswork out of it. So set up visual markers for yourself of when you need to hard turn or not. Hope this helps and congrats on the new boat! - Josh
