San Diego County’s Farm Bureau President: Dana Groot

Dana Groot, a fifth-generation farmer and President of San Diego County Farm Bureau, comes from a long line of growers who specialized in flower and vegetable seeds in Holland. In 1952, his father immigrated to the United States, to continue the family's tradition of agriculture. Specializing in nursery and floriculture, Dana runs his operation on San Diego's coast, where ample sunlight is available all year round. During the fall and Christmas seasons, he grows poinsettias, while in the springtime, he cultivates hydrangeas. Dana has been a member for 15 years and is aware of the challenges that agriculture faces. Dana says, “[Farm Bureau‘s] advocacy is excellent for interacting with regulators and elected officials to make the concerns of farmers known.”
