it is odd that these aren't getting more attention. I just got my 35mm for my FX30 and I'm also really impressed with the image/size/handling/value etc. I plan on adding the others later this year as I need them. Plus, it just looks so good on the cinema bodies (fx3/30) :D

Hi! I'm Oliver from Hungary. I could test these lenses as well, and i have some questions. First, i tried to put it on the DJI 4d - because i think these are the perfect lenses for that - but sadly, i couldn't calibrate the focus, neither manually. Also, i couldn't use it when i turned off the AF on the camera. And i noticed that the lights on the lens are didn't work. After that, i tried it on a sony a7R IV. The AF was good, but when i switched to MF, sometimes worked wierd, like if i turned the focus ring to fast, the focus went to infinity, and came back very slowly. And also, sometimes it didn't followed my movement, and did the same. And my other problem was, that the focus pulling wasn't as fast, as i moved the ring, what is kind weird, if you selling a lens for cinema line - and there is no hard stops, what is funny, 'couz you can't calibrate a normal wireless FF :D. Did you notice this kind of problem? And during the AF, it couldn't handle the close point via touch focusing on the camera screen. It tried to reach it, but couldn't found it.

  • @CineD

I have heard from others asking about the Ronin 4D, and I don't know why but I didn't try that yet ... will definitely try as well and contact DJI about it if they don't work. They should definitely make them work as they would be a perfect fit for it for sure. Regarding your other problems with MF, will try to replicate. I did not come across this problem. The lacking hard stops are an issue indeed, that's why I also think they can't properly call them "CineAF", you can't calibrate a wireless FF for them just like you said. Will also try the touch focus. Nino

I used to follow these lenses upon there release when they had Black Friday deals, Christmas Deal and End of the year deal. It was hard to find any info on them. But one thing that's extremely noticable to me is the Auto focus always seems off. Another KZreadr did an Auto focus test with the 75mm and it's apparent how much it misses focus. while walking it's always a slight blur on your subjects eyes then once he stands still, it seems to finally capture the focus, and once you movie again it's a slight Blur. I've noticed this in everyone's KZread videos. This could be a cheap alternative to Sony Lens but autofocus on Samyang still lacking IMO. Tamron and Sigma have the closest Autofocus to Sony.

  • @papsny

  • @Diminish12

It's a Photo lens rehoused in V-AF body. Samyang doesn't claim mimic Focus Pull. They claim Video Auto Focus like other lenses. They have the promotional video where you can run and this lens will keep you focused. Maybe now they have updated the software where it's better.

Samyang once created autofocus RF lenses, but Canon actively sues every third-party autofocus RF lens so Samyang took those lenses back. Regarding traditional mounts, these mirrorless lenses have a rear element distance much shorter than PL, EF and F mounts. This is why there's effectively no other mount it can be manufactured to -- except for Nikon Z mount, but movie makers probably don't care about that one.

@@CineD The Samyang V-AF Lenses DO I repeat DO work with the Ronin 4D and work a treat! You do need to change a setting on the lenses to make sure they work though otherwise you get weird 'bouncing back' behaviour due to the way the lens 'cine' manual focus. You need the AF Lens Station dock and the Lens Manager software from Samyang. There I would do an update as well. Everything on my Ronin and Lenses (24,35,75) are up to date. The important setting to change is under Custom S/W -> MF Mode and change to Normal Focus (ACC Control). Hit save and you now have a perfectly working lens, both in AF and AMF modes on the camera. They have some af issues that you can never overcome. they sometimes prefer to switch the manual mode randomly and set the aperture f1.8 which is wide open... And the focus ring, it turns till forever, never stops. it is impossible to use manual focus, especially with remote. Why do i need them, they are actually photo lenses, not for cinema.

T 1.5 at under $1000, hard stops for focus, or under $500 for the T1.9. Any of those things probably would have pushed me over the edge. These are a hard sell vs Sony's native 85 1.8, 35 1.8, and 20 1.8. All those lenses are almost the same size and weight, have the same filter thread, and have incredible autofocus and image quality for the price. Again no test on a bigger body like the FX6... When the lenses came out the disfunctioned on a FX6 when I tested them.... it looks almost if reviewers are prohibited to test on a bigger system. Sure the AF lenses (also their non V-AF lenses) work great on mirrorless but why no one is testing on something else is beyond me. I think I know the answer why but it is a shame. Their 135 f1.8 AF lens is great on mirrorless body and for photography... stick it on a FX6 and it just doesn't work. Only with Samyang, other brands like Sigma and tamron work fine. Samyang claims to be working on firmwares by the way, but until that is released i think it is good to know to expect 0 AF on an FX6
