Just the most amazing craftsmanship !!! For cutting boards, do the inlays need to be seated at full depth, or is it ok to leave a nominal amount for the glue gap? Seems to be a balance of a perfect fitting inlay and rigidity to withstand an impact from a kitchen cleaver strike. Heaven forbid anyone actual use this for anything other than artwork for display. Just perfection! Great work!

Amazing work. Do you use different v-bits and different cut depths for different parts of the pattern? In my attempts, trying to set a max depth of even 0.25 inches around anything intricate results in tearout and ruin...

Search on KZread “The VCarve Inlay Technique Shawn Gano” he explains it very well. For the main part set Start Depth to 0 and Flat Depth to 0.15 and on the Inlay part set the Start Depth to 0.1 and the Flat Depth to 0.1 This will allow 0.05” (1/20”) at the bottom for the glue. I tried this a few weeks ago for a jewelry box with a 60 degree v-bit and it worked very well.

That’s why I like the Amana Tools bits. They have the recommended feeds and speeds (spindle/router rpm and XY feedrate) for every bit. The ones with the Spektra coating last pretty long. Rule of thumb is that the z feed rate (plunge) should be 1/2 of the XY feed rate. I usually keep the stepover at just under 1/2 the diameter of the bit, same for the depth of cut per pass. Also they have nice videos on Instagram and KZread in which they give the part numbers for every bit they use.

I was wondering why you did the maple inlays in stages. Did you use different depths or different vbits? Better fit? Thanks...you're the best.

It’s possibly to save on materials. Woods expensive. Also, glue up, something that large, by the time you slather the glue all over it will have started to set. At least that is my guess

Bohdan gives you excellent source material and you take it and deliver fantastic boards. I'm a bit jealous of the extremely fine detail you achieve without the wood chipping. I would love to know the cutting speeds and which bits are being used. I'm suspecting the finer 6.2 degree, buts it's hard to tell. Anyways, I suspect that some trade secrets must remain and it's up to us to figure it out by trial and error. Thanks to you and Bohdan for some great videos.
