This is a criminally underrated show. I was on Netflix just looking for a samurai show and found this little gem about accepting life in its simplistic nature through enjoying culinary art and living each day like it’s own little adventure.

To answer your ketchup question, yes, it is a thing here in Japan. If you go to 711, you can buy a ketchup and spaghetti bento. But it doesn't exactly taste like regular ketchup. More like...if ketchup was marinara sauce. Also, love love LOVE this show. Thanks for doing such an awesome review of it.

After watching Samurai Gourmet I wanted to live every moment mindfully. Especially eating without thoughts and just simply relishing the taste of it!! ❤

Great review man. It was a really comforting and relaxed show kind of like tokyo midnight diner. It is unfortunate that it will *not* be renewed for an additional season, but I am content with what we got. Not everything needs a part 2 Edit: forgot to add not

Agreed 100%. Am I bummed that there won't be a season 2? Yeah, but the entire show is about appreciating what we have and feeling fondness towards what came before. Thanks for checking out the vid, appreciate it :)

Really sums up why I love this show so much

Great video, 10/10, very insightful. Honestly didn't think about the nostalgia factor when watching this anime, but it makes perfect sense looking back. My only critique is that you didn't go far enough into his descent of crippling alcoholism. This anime is definitely one of my favorites of all time. Thank you.

Zack, This video was great?! I love your explanation of some of the points that you depicted within the Japanese culture that most Americans will never realize. But, that is the difference between Americans vs Japanese. That we are able to observe him going through this journey. However, he Visions a Samurai.... Have you ever wondered? If that Samurai actually exists in Japan?
