It can only be one or two things, the filter is being installed properly, such as not pushed in far enough or it is a defective filter. In the last couple of years these filters have been getting bad reviews. Not sure what happened to them. When I purchased mine it worked great.

thanks for the tip to go to messages and looking for reset filter. It's a lousy user interface design for Samsung. Simple one button design in Apps but they put it in a hard way for look for.

your welcome, these filters can be a pain sometimes.

I have a very similar water filter, and the fridge will dispense water without the filter in, but our recently has been making a low pitched grinding noise when the water is dispensing. I don't know that it has a water pump at all, being a pressurized system, and it did stop once I pulled the filter, ran some water with the filter removed, and put the filter back. I think maybe the filter hadn't been seated all the way last time, as that's when the occasional noise started. How much are the HDX filters? I'll have to check into them, as the Samsung filters are $35 or so

The HDX filter is about $35, The low grinding sound could be coming from your control valve if teh water was not flowing thru the system properly.

So I don't have the exact same fridge as yours however my fridge uses the exact same filter. I purchased an actual genuine Samsung replacement and after I replaced it, it seemed to be fine without any issues. However fast forward about a week and I have a pool of water under my removable crisper drawer. I know I seated the filter properly but now I'm wondering if it's defective and if I should just buy another one. It seems like your HDX brand (I assume from home Depot) fits quite nicely. Maybe I'll try one from there. Any suggestions?

Sorry, it took me so long to respond, Edris; I probably already purchased another filter. Take the filter out, put it back in, and give it a second chance to seal. Make sure the water is off going to the fridge. You may want to consider putting just a little bit of o-ring seal grease to help it slide in easily, although that should not be necessary. The o-rings are designed to seal and not leak. If the leak is persistent, then the filter is defective. I have always trusted Home Depot products and have never been let down. If they sell a filter that matches yours, you should feel safe purchasing it. I'm not sure where you bought the original filter, but if it is the refrigerator company, I would call them. Make sure there's nothing in the filter's shaft that's clogging or interrupting the seal.

@@jordanhay4966 believe it or not I had returned the one from the Samsung on Amazon.... After speaking with Samsung directly they said that they don't officially sell any filters on Amazon. So apparently their official Samsung store on Amazon isn't genuine (I guess?)? The gentlemen on the phone from Samsung proceeded to tell me the list of authorized sellers (home Depot is one of them along with a few others). So I managed to find 1 from home Depot and it looked almost identical. The front square with rounded corners fit better then the other that I had bought from Amazon. It gave me no issues at all. From then on I've managed to place orders from the Samsung website themselves (ordering about 3 or 4 at a time).

I don't have water hooked up, after 9 months water filter light is on. Obviously,...it's a time in service warning. I have no water source as it's an extra fridge/freeze only. Any concerns of fridge shutdown eventually because of this warning?

0% chance of it shutting down. it is only a reminder, try resetting the waring by telling it you have replaced the filter.

Do you have any issues with the ice maker not making ice sometimes?

Yes, in fact that just started. A few weeks ago we had our first issue. The solution was simple, I pulled the tray out and defrost it. I melted the ice that had collected inside with a blow dryer. Put the tray back in and everything worked fine. Somehow the tray had come a jarred and the seal was broken and moisture got inside of the ice maker. When you put the tray back in make sure it's in all the way.

Mine did. The ice makers have been known to have problems. We had to have ours replaced in 2019. It eventually wasn't making but maybe a cup of ice per day, since then, no problems, it stays full and makes a "tray" of ice about once every 90 minutes.

Hopefully you can respond to my issue. I have been using the same brand of filters for the past 2 years and yesterday i installed the new one and im experiencing problems. The pitcher isnt getting filled with water the area where the filter goes gets all wet. I remove the filter and the water dispenses normal. Any idea whats happening here?

I just got this refrigerator today and I accidentally pulled the filter out because I didn’t know what it was and put it back in the the water on will that mess up anything? I hope not I’m kind of nervous

Just make sure there is not a leak. Otherwise, everything is just fine. The filter is designed to come in and out. The water being on does not make a difference.

if by some chance the o-rings did not seal properly, which by the way they sound like they did, the leak would be coming out on the front part where the filter is placed because the casing that holds the filter is sealed and the only place for the water to come out would be upfront.

You do not have to turn off the water supply when changing the filter.

I have a different fridge, and I was making a mess until I turned off the water supply. Once I did that, it was easy. Thank you for pointing out that you should make a couple of turns before it gets properly seated. Prior to watching this video, I had spent a couple of days Googling and testing trying to figure it out. Your way worked! Thanks!

Press and hold the filter reset button for about 3 seconds to reset the water filter. The colour of the indicator will change from red to blue, green or yellow. 6 Make sure you've turned the water supply back on (if you previously turned it off)
