Samsung the Frame 2021 Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Have you been considering the new 2021 Samsung The Frame TV but not sure if it's worth the hype? We dive into a variety of the features of the new TV and address some of the early feedback we've seen on the market.
**** UPDATE**************
Since this video was published, Samsung made two small changes based on user feedback to now include a paper template and a small connector plate to simplify the install method. The TV model number remains identical, but this change was made very soon after the TVs start hitting the market so we're pretty sure all TVs shipping at this point have the updated contents.

    I don't regret getting the 2021 - thinner, more storage, etc., all big wins. The mounting with 2 brackets though is a pain if you want it perfectly level. Just like hanging a piece of art with one hook in the center vs one at either end, the center bracket is easier to level, but less secure. We're mounting into masonry and finding getting both mounts perfectly level to each other a challenge. But this is a one time issue compared with the life of the product with big advantages.

  • @DecoTVFrames

    This vs ambient mode. Thoughts? It seems some of the new Neo QLED's are just as thin and flush to the wall. But of course no physical frame or art mode. But ambient mode. Worth it for the better viewing angles and such or just stick with The Frame? Thanks!

  • @DecoTVFrames

    @DecoTVFrames

    3 жыл бұрын

    I guess it really depends on if Decor is an important topic or not. Samsung Frame gives both Art Mode as well as Ambient Mode. Art Mode we feel is more geared towards those who place a greater value on Decor because the TV becomes more believable as art on the wall (especially when combined with our frames). Ambient Mode is more obvious as a TV because the art morphs. At the end of the TV we lean more towards Samsung The Frame because it gives the best of both worlds.

    One thing that kept me from getting the 2020 32" Frame was the lack of Motion Sensor, do you happen to know if this is still the case for the 2021 version? and if so, is there any workaround to this? i feel the main reason someone would get, especially the 32" variant would be to use the Art mode and without Motion sensor it takes away that selling point. Would have made sense to integrate the Smartthings hub and let you use external motion sensors but thats a whole other discussion..

  • @DecoTVFrames

    @DecoTVFrames

    2 жыл бұрын

    That's correct ... the 32" Samsung Frame TV does NOT have a motion sensor as a feature of the TV. I'm not sure why Samsung skipped on this feature. Perhaps a cost saving measure since the TV is at such a low price point. Or maybe they expected it to be used primarily in common areas like a Kitchen etc where it would be most likely left on all the time. Also the 32" uses an incredibly low amount of power. These are all just guesses .... However, we are working on something quite interesting. It will be called our Smart Room Sensor 2 (SRS-2) ... it's not 100% confirmed yet, but we think that one of the many features of this device is it will be a way to add motion sensing capability to the 32" models. If we can do this, the device will be released around end of 2021 / early 2022. Stay tuned 😉

  • @DecoTVFrames

    Honestly the motion sensor on the frame TV's is a far from ideal solution. We have not done any comparison testing between the motion sensor on the tv model years. We did notice however that the motion sensor on the 2021 is disabled by default and we think this is because it's a known reliability issue, but we're not 100% sure why they chose to disable it.

  • @DecoTVFrames

    @DecoTVFrames

    2 жыл бұрын

    The level of glare is a rather subjective topic and as one would imagine can vary greatly by the room lighting level. I would say the level of glare is better than most TVs on the market, but with somewhat direct light you'll definitely still see some glare. The exciting news though is for the 2022 models coming out in the spring, the main new feature is an antireflective and slightly textured screen to virtually eliminate glare and look more like actual canvas art than ever before. We are super excited for the 2022 TVs to hit the market here very soon.

On LG there's nothing really that compares to the art store like the way Samsung partnered with Art Museums and artists around the world to give curated collections of art.

    Honestly, we really think the rational was a combination of pieces of art are usually always hung on a wire and as a result go right flat to the wall. Also, with the new TV now so incredibly thin, there simply wasn't room for the beefier single plate that they used to use. Yes, it's a little bit of extra work for two plates, but it's really not too bad as you can see from our other video demonstrating the install process.

We also buried into the wall a thick tube to connect Apple TV, Cable, DVD etc. So when I saw The Frame 2021 I fell in love BUT after watching your video am thinking I can’t use it because of the One Connect Box and where my sockets are especially the Antenna. Soooo, I was wondering, could I use a third party Wall Mount (which will separate the TV from the wall, hang the One Connect behind the TV and figure out how to frame the tv with a combination of a patterned frame mounted on a simple frame to encase the whole thing and give the effect that it is flat the wall when really it isn’t. It would be a big, deep frame to cover the gap all the way around the TV. Does that make sense? I need the One Connect BEHIND the TV, is that OK to do anyway? We hid the chords behind the wall, and got the new white beveled frame. We had ordered the 2020 white border and the 2021, and liked the 2021 more, because it feels more like a picture frame. We also put a collage of frames around it, and so far everyone that has come over is thrown off at first not realizing it's a TV, so that's been great. I'm sorry but our frames are not designed for use with third party remotes at this time. The IR-2 is a bit of an unofficial workaround as it's a component that's used for some of our other product lines. Technically it can work for what you're trying to accomplish, but there isn't enough space behind the frame for it because the TV is so thin so it doesn't make much sense to product a video for a non-ideal solution. To develop a complete solution and a new custom manufactured relay system for your scenario is a rather major undertaking that will take the better part of 6 mo from start to finish and a great deal of development/ testing. The only way it would work is if you pad your TV out from the wall by 1" to make space for the block.

Also it comes with a power tv box.... does that make fan noise ? and is that the actual operating machine for the tv ? or does the tv has the mechanic stuff ? Keep thinking the tv box is where all that engine stuff is coming from because the tv alone is actually empty inside it and nothing inside it other then a screen only... I could be wrong. Considering the tv box is where you power the device in order to have the tv on.. So does this mean the tv will never warm up because there is no power inside that tv ? Think of it this way... that tv box to be integrated inside the tv itself.. but since it is a separated device you would think that if anything breaks... it wont be the tv but more likely the mechanic device of that tv box alone correct ? Since the tv doesn't even have ventilation holes at all.... so I'm guessing all the action is coming from the tiny tv box instead of the big screen tv alone. Thanks Will there be a 2022 model coming up of the frame tv ? Im guessing it all began in 2020 first frame tv and this eyar you have a new model and next year who knows.. i could be all wrong :)

    Great question... yes we filmed this in an almost dark room with stage lighting. That's a really extreme scenario. Anti-Glare can never truly eliminate all glare.. but I can tell you compared to many other regular screens the notion of glare is severely lower than TV's without that feature. More than anything the anti-glare just strongly diffuses glare.

    We did try to do some videos on picture quality, but honestly they really didn't do it justice. I can tell you this though. We have definitely noticed the picture quality on the 2021 is noticeably better. The colors seem more rich and vibrant. You can really notice this in art mode was where it caught our attention.

    Hi John. What have you heard regarding gaming performance on a tv like this? I know it supports the new HDMI for PS5, but what about any type of game mode or motion smoothing? I am considering this for a bedroom/alternate gaming TV. I've read a few of those lists featuring the best gaming TVs and this isn't on it, probably because it is so new, but also a very thin frame with that strange breakout box for all of the connections.

    We do have a 32" Frame TV as well. It's basically the same. The only difference is the One Connect box is much smaller, but for some odd reason they use a big bulky grew cord similar to an old school parallel printer cord. No clue why they did that.

    Yeah it's a very fascinating cord indeed. We've studied it at great length. We think they are encoding then decoding the signal through the larger connector blocks at each end of the cord. Definitely be careful when running the cord so you don't kink it.

  • @DecoTVFrames

    The sound it quite good especially for such an incredibly thin TV. It's comparable to most other built-in flat panel speakers. However, keep in mind that there's only so much sound one can reasonably expect from a 1" thick TV. For truly high end audio and surround sound, you'll want to use an external audio system, but for typical TV viewing the sound is adequate in a moderate sized room.

    We have a range of solutions based on size and budget ranging from $149 up to $749. Our new Alloy collection has been introduced recently as a more affordable solution compared to the other more premium frames shown in the video. Additionally, we are proud that all of our frames are Made in the USA with a living wage and full benefits.

    This reviewer is kinda sus. He didn't even know LG makes a Gallery series TV, that's just as slim and has a single mount with template. Of course there is no conflict of interest since they're a Samsung authorized seller.

  • @DecoTVFrames

    @DecoTVFrames

    Oh we are extremely familiar with the LG Gallery. We've even done hands on analysis of the TV in private, but it's not a TV we feel comfortable endorsing until it's more developed and mature like Samsung's offering. Yes, it has similar thinness but is heavily lacking in the features which are necessary to truly become an art TV. We continue to keep a close eye on LG Gallery TV to see if it gains any traction in the market and if it will eventually become a complete art solution like Samsung's Frame TVs currently has proven itself to be. Also, I should point out that Samsung did receive the feedback loud and clear about the lack of a template and they now include a paper template with all TVs and I'm told the have begun adding a connector plate to connect the two wall mount plates based on user feedback. It was a quietly introduced change so I'm sorry to say but there's no way to know by the model number if the new plate or template is in the box, but this change was made a few months ago so my guess is most TVs now in circulation all have the updated contents.
