What happens if you try switching through the various zoom modes, or aspect ratios? Does the spot get bigger, smaller, or change from round to oval? I'm Thinking it will remain constant, because I suspect it's a defect in the LCD panel itself, but if the spot does change in any way, then I'd be thinking of a fault somewhere in the video processing? I'm curious because I have a Sanyo TV of about the same age, with much the same problem, except that I already know in mine, it's the panel itself that's at fault. It was a curious thing, because it began as a little bit of blue, sagging down from the top edge of the screen. Over time, it became a large blue "U" shaped area at the top of the screen. Left to run, the "U" shape slowly progressed down the screen and became a black spot, with the top of the "U" closing off above it, and the picture returning to normal above the spot. Later on, I became aware that the black spot was actually quite hot relative to the rest of the screen, and that the top edge of the screen was becoming filled with dead pixels and incorrect colours (mostly blue). Why the spot detached itself from the top of the screen, and why it began to migrate downwards is a complete mystery to me.

For such regular circularity from a system that is essentially rectilinear, as is an LCD panel, is extremely unlikely, so an electronic fault is implausible (I'd love to be proven wrong!). Only software is likely to produce such a regular circle. A damaged LCD cell could leak and affect adjacent cells, but this would be unlikely to produce such regularity. External damage by something circular is possible, but it would be unlikely to produce such regularity. I suspect a circular chad (foreign body) between the backlight and panel.

@@Spiritof1955 I get it now. 😀
Had that before but there were 3 or 4 of them, someone suggested heating it up with a hairdryer but I never tried it But I agree it is an odd fault thanks Michael

@@michaeldranfield7140 maybe the heat gun was too hot for it ? I will look around to see if I can see where I got the hairdryer idea from .
Looks like somebody shot at it with a nerf gun or suction dart.

I found that out by my boy's bathroom being shared to each of their bedrooms. If they leave the french doors open on either side, they shoot each other with Nerf guns through their shared bathroom! I changed out a monitor that got shot by a Nerf type gun that had a suction cup ammo. The monitor had a perfect circle and left no marks on the screen. Can't win.@@carlilemike
Hi Micheal, brilliant channel. Thank you. Any tips for DSE on a Sony Bravia 65 inch from 2015. Thanks again. Great teacher👍👍👍

for a 9 year old TV there is a good chance parts will be no longer available so a used board found on the internet may be your only chance .

@@user-nq1mb6ix2s no board, you need to replace the LCD panel
Please crack it open. Can you sea it under a bright light ? Does seem a bit like a decoder issue that wouldn’t be there using an external input.

its in the scrap pile now quite a few people commented this is most likely caused by De lamination of the LCD glass caused by heat and maybe from strong sunlight.
Somebody dropped a 10p down the back. Give it a shake and it'll come out! 🤣
I don't think it is the LCD. I think someone placed a dark disk between the light defuser and the LCD panel to confuse us

Its the starting of a black hole. Please dont get too close. We will never see you again. You will find the TV is quite heavy as well. Last time I say a similar thing, was when I client, after questioning, said he had left the TV on the rear parcel shelf in his car in the sun.
does look like a pressure point now seen that on phone screens😮
Heat damage to the LCD panel, possibly someone fooling around with a hair drier or similar ( In my opinion)
My first thought was someone shining a very powerful led torch or laser(some are powerful enough to burn paper etc now) at the screen and then oops!

this is so interesting 😃😃 was no LED, so I don't think there is a problem with the panel. I think a round object fell on the CFL and caused this.

has to be a damaged panel from impact or heat

lot of people suggested heat, more likely sunlight on the screen was the common suggestion .
I had a Samsung monitor with this black circle, it was caused by water damage.
Guess a software glitch with on-screen menu
I think it's called an ink spot caused by heat from the led😮

That's normally from an impact on the screen, they can be round but mainly not a perfect circle!

Seems a lot bigger than what a LED would cause ? Besides there would be several layers of diffuser sheets plus an air gap between the screen & the LED's. Isn't this TV too old to be LED back lit ?

Someone put a round magnet on the screen :)

No, it's quite a common issue, I've seen monitors with this failure. It starts as a small dot, and spreads. Probably the front and back glass of the panel are delaminating. It's definitely a panel issue, you can see it with a flashlight if the TV is turned off.

@mrnmrn1

It seems it can be. The ones I came across were quite circular, maybe not as perfectly as this one, I can't recall. But the fact that it can be seen with the set unpowered makes it obvious that it's an LCD fault. I can't imagine an electronic/signal processing failure that can cause something like this. It would be either a horizontal or verical line, or the entire picture screwed up.@@frogandspanner
Well you are right, it is a perfect circle. BUt I have no idea what the source of this problem is.
