Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra vs iPhone 13 Pro Max Camera Test

Ғылым және технология

Samsung in February introduced its latest high-end flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra. We picked up one of the new Samsung devices, and thought we'd compare it to Apple's top-of-the-line smartphone, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, to see how the two premium phones compare to one another when it comes to camera quality.

I’m an iPhone 13 user. But I feel your review is too favoured for iPhone :) In reality, actually Samsung give a real tough competition for Apple.. This time i feel S22 Ultra is better overall camera system. Obviously, in video department iPhone is still the king!

Yup! Either Apple hires a bunch of these kind of genius reviewers to review in their favor or these apple users just dont' know any better! That's why the channel is called rumors 🤪 Apple lags behind Android(Samsung, Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, Sony), in every category and every spec. The truth is Apple just crossed 8MP barrier very recently. They don't talk about that very often!

With photos in most cases being similar, maybe 2 other "test" facets could be added - put in a colour checker card in those lighting conditions and compare, also post edit to see if both images can be matched up (have the not preferred image edited as best possible to match the preferred image).

Good thing you started off by stating this is out of the box no special settings or modes. Having said that I would say that the beauty of the Samsung is the special settings. I believe the Samsung Ultra 22 shoots a great image without much digital enhancement in standard mode. Every iPhone photo is using a ton of AI and ML. This is why most iPhone photos in recent years have a more warm/HDR appearance. As a photographer, I am very competent with both the iPhone 12 Pro Max (its what I own) and the Samsung 22 Ultra (I own this phone too) PRO Camera settings. For now the Samsung s22 Ultra blows the iPhone away. Its scan mode does miracles with text. I think for ease of use and vacation family photos either camera is exceptional. Minus the fact you cannot attach some good glass, I would say both of the cameras take photos on par with a Canon 80D. I know that will be controversial but let's face it these phone cameras are good. Maybe someday someone will create a special phone attachment that will allow for multiple lenses to be attached. Then the phone companies could have a single camera and sensor.

I imagine it's probably because Samsung is a Korean company. The cameras are made in a way to take better pictures of Korean people since that's the country it originates in. IPhones are warmer because it's an "American" phone. Basically Samsung has cooler photos to highlight a Korean person. IPhones are warmer to highlight a white person

I go with the iPhone 13 pro max. I think the better battery life is my decision. It doesn’t matter the photos, videos you shoot but the battery wouldn’t last and get hot which my safety concern. I have a couple samsung phones in the past. They all have the same short battery life. And I like the feel holding it. I just wish Apple makes iPhone mini pro Max. So I could carry it in my pocket. Maybe in the future. So overall iPhone is the win to me.

You can definitely adjust your camera setting preferences on Samsung cameras, not sure about iphone but I would assume so; this video is basically just reviewing factory settings and really didn't get into any of the more detailed camera functions side by side as he said most people don't necessarily care about that (which honestly I would disagree with since most millennials and gen z filter their lives through online photography & videography). Personally I like to color edit photos after the fact so Samsung has always been my preference just because it gives the closest to a raw image imo and I don't have to spend extra time undoing the color edits that apple imposes, but that's also what other people like about iphones...so it's really just a matter of how you're using the photos. I print a lot of photos for collage works and generally get a better physical image from samsung when getting into poster sizing but that's probably not a day to day function for most. Tldr; you can adjust your camera settings but this video didn't show that.

I think the algorithms or the american phones are superb. You have had that warm, sepia hipsta tint on the iphone since the iphone 4 at least and google's pixels add the sophisticated HDR. On phone screens or social media these photos are instantly pleasing without a lot of effort. The beautification of faces is optional on samsung phones and the main downside now is a slight tendency to over expose. I think if you use pro mode on samsung and watch your exposure you get extremely good photos expecially if you do a little post processing. That's why samsung works better for me.

You can use 8k video horizontally when the kids are running around. In gallery when playing 8k video there is a little box bottom left th allows you to take photos from the video. The amount of shots you can get is unbelievable. Remember you can pause during video capture. The shots are high res?.about 33 mb. Afterwards you can delete video to save space or reduce size in a video editor if you want to keep the video. I’m just giving you an option to capture great shots. Even when kids are jumping around or whatever they are doing…the 8k will not disappoint. There is also expert raw. Increase shutter speed, bump iso ….done deal. Edit in Lightroom and you’ll have great shots.

This really comes down to the type of photography you mostly do. I do a lot of nature pictures and the iPhone 13 pro max was no match with my previous s21ultra. And to be clear I don't want to be fan boyish here, there are a lot of things iPhone does well. It's just the things it doesn't do that sent me back to Samsung.

you should really comapre these photos with real full frame camera, these phones are not cheap! when Apple or Samsung claim as their flagship and sell it for hefty price they should perform to the realword cameras. but these photos are really looks good to see in phone screens but when you really print on photo papper you will realise the worth of real camers v/s mobile camers

I use an iPhone 13 pro max and to be honest, Samsung has the better overall consistency in photography. But apple isn’t too far behind, definitely top 3 this year. However, when it comes to video there is little competition, regular videos are great, cinematic mode is improving and is fun, but the factor that obliterates the competition is pro res.

You can also shoot RAW video on samsung which, from the prores vs raw comparison, holds more detail than pro res, so even there samsung has apple beat.

Being a IOS user since Ip 6 plus , still commenting through my Xr i really feel this time Samsung is Better at many places, Accepting the truth is always better than being Bias , i was planning for upgrade first time in so many years Android made me confuse to go to it from IOS but that will make apple watch and pods useless thats again a Minus point for 🍎

iphone is still the clear winner when it comes to video. Samsung wins when it comes to photos, but iphone still does really well considering it’s 6 months older that the S22. I’m interested to see what Apple does this fall.

I need Optical zoom I switched from Oppo X2 Pro to OnePlus 9 Pro and I miss this hard and @€U Samsung is not a option for me with the bad Exynos Cpu. When Apple integrate this persicope lense and Usb-C I find my new phone maybe. Rumors say Samsung have 2023 Qualcom Cpu with this optical zoom maybe I stay on Android but my brain say I want a iPhone with periscope lens.

you really shouldn't be doing these reviews as you are always on the iPhone side... So how is it a true review? this is happening with a lot of review people they are sponsored by one of them so they will always be going with the one they are being paid by 🤷‍♂️ just my opinion tho

Thanks. I have s22 ultra and It get more hot withing 10min camera use. So i never recommended S22ultra for photography or videography more than 10min, bcoz it will get over heating issue..

The default color tones remind me of Canon vs Nikon where Canon is warmer than Nikon when it comes to colors and skin tones.

  • @ThePhilipone

    @ThePhilipone

    2 жыл бұрын

Canon makes its own sensors and yes they tend to go for warmer white balance (Kodak moment look). On the other hand Nikon uses Sony sensors and they are well known for the colder white balance. Most android phones also use Sony sensors......so the cold white balance is something that comes from the sensor settings. Here are some other well known problems of Sony sensors: purple hues in very low light, weird noise in low light, hot pixels that come on go. Anything sounds familiar? .....Unless they decided to use for the euro Exynos variant an Isocell sensor which is always pure shit compared with sony one.

The main lens on the s22u is wider than the iphone's so when zoomed in 3x its not as close as the iphone. But I agree.
